Because there are better things to discuss than Mark Hoppus and his bass.

Funkadelia2000 02-26-2006 05:16 PM
People don't like the Hoppus bass b/c its $560. Sure it might have a decent sound, but for the same price you can get such a ridiculously better bass.
i think there is a cheaper squire version of the hoppus.

pitchfork 02-27-2006 02:11 AM

ya well that's what solo bassists do....dumbass

pitchfork 02-28-2006 12:26 PM

Yeah but hoppus bass, okay for your standard pop band like blink but not really suitable for other styles of music. If you really want a Pbass look at the japanese and american models, some squires are better than mexicans. Of just go get a jazz with the S1 switch for both tones.

faelun 02-28-2006 03:59 PM

I always thought the hoppus sig was hot pink?

pitchfork 03-01-2006 01:00 PM

Shell pink, some sickly blue or white.

Mr. Pickle 03-02-2006 07:26 PM
*cough* '62 jazz reissue much better 'cough'
yeah, b/c they're easily comparable.

pitchfork 03-03-2006 05:21 AM

Same price better bass if the prices are the same as last time i saw.
About £480 for the reissue the hoppus is about that as well last time i looked.

Mr. Pickle 03-04-2006 09:41 PM

WHAT? i thought the '62 reissues were like $1500 USD or something as where the hoppus is around $500-600 USD.

confused...

I think he mean the "60s jazz bass"

Mr. Pickle 04-11-2006 07:38 PM

seems like those two would be pretty hard to confuse.

PsychoTronn 11-10-2006 03:37 AM

the hoppus bass dosen't have any tone knobs so it can only sound one way, one tone.

I'd perfer a $200 Ibanez bass over this bass any day.

You know amps do have EQs, right?

PsychoTronn 12-23-2006 07:32 PM
You know amps do have EQs, right?
why woulden't you want tone knobs on your bass?

elmo121 06-23-2007 07:05 AM

cos its not needed, and if you have a good amp, you should be able to modify the tone to your liking anyway

Basilsparents 07-07-2007 01:49 AM
Also own the amp, and I'd urge you to stop before you buy it as a giggable amp. Its a well good amp, but it simply won't do for gigs. Small ones it might just handle, but as soon as you want to go any bigger then you'll need something else as it just won't go high and clarified enough at the same time. If you're gigging somewhere with a well good PA then thats OK 'cos of the preamp out/DI out, but if you want to gig with this alone I'd reccomend the 300W head or the new 180 watt version which is coming out at some point in the near future.

Fallen Angel
What Fallen Angel says is pretty true... 120w can be a bit lacking in kick for PA-less gigs. I have the 180w version of the amp we're talking about... a BXL180, I think? Which I feel can cut the mustard at gigs. The 300w version of this combo is (in the UK at least) only around £40 more expensive than the 180w version, so if you can afford it, I'd be recommending the 300w. The 180 can pull it off (as I've found out), but I can imagine a 120w could be in trouble.

However, one thing I have to say about this amp... it's indestructable... or so it seems

Weezer 07-09-2007 10:45 AM

Indestructible... lol

hotcod32 08-02-2007 08:54 PM

Well i did just pick up a mark bass from ebay, which i didn't even really mean to do. They tend to go for £350-400 2nd hand here but this one had a reserve of £200 so i thought i'd see if i could get it cheap since i can't find a pbass for less than £350... funny thing is i'd end up putting in the pick ups (£60) in the mark in a pbass if i'd got one at some point anyway... got the mark for £215 which came as a bit of a shock but i'm really quite happy about it.

Point is i play 'poppunk' (i'll get to that in a second) and i've always wanted a bass sound a lot like marks so this is rather good for me, i don't see having no tone on the bass as a problem, any tone i'll need to change i can do with a half decent amp... frankly i hardly ever bother to touch the tone knobs on any bass but ya i freely admit i'm not a very good bassist in the grand viwe of things... but i've rather damn good at what i do and this bass should get me the sound i want... even then anything better than the crap i have at the moment, it was brought 2nd hand years ago from a friend when she needed money and i thought having a bass about would be fun, it sucks so anything at all would be better. Only downside is the pick guard really, i'd rather it was black than blue really but given the price i've gotten it for i can't bitch to much.

Point is people are snobby ****ers, which is evident in all the 'omg its not punk' debate... 'poppunk' is a name for a type of music now rather than a description. Just like almost anything called 'emo' or 'hardcore' these days is not really 'emo' or 'hardcore'. Blink and bands like them play a music that has its roots way back in punk, it grew out of what people would call "real" poppunk and is now a whole thing of it own... the punk in it is just a name and for the most part says '4 cords, distorted guitar with roots in bands from punk music'. So ya, just a name... i just wish people didn't have to bring it up ever time poppunk gets talked about these days.

But sure i'll stick a real review of it here when i've hand my hands on it for a practices. Have one monday but not sure it will have turned up by then but ah well

Sammy_L_D 08-02-2007 10:18 PM

Hey hotcod32, you just brought up this "poppunk" vs. "punk" debate.

Get a life loser.

hotcod32 08-03-2007 11:52 AM

at want point did i argue punk vs poppunk? where did i say one was better than the other? oh wait, i didn't :)

Weezer 08-03-2007 07:49 PM

This isn't the place to bring up your lame philosophies about different genres, this is for reviews.

hotcod32 08-04-2007 02:34 AM

it was already been talked about in the tread and so i commented on it. I didn't bring it up but simply stated what i and most people i know see as a fact and why people whining on and on about 'punk' in 'poppunk' is silly.
