3 Musical Geniuses = Rush

I saw Rush on thier Power Windows Tour . Neil Peart best drummer ever PERIOD.

I also saw them on the tour when they had the song "Time Stands Still" cant remember the name of the album or tour(smoked way too much weed back then).
That would be off of the Hold Your Fire album.

Man, to think that Geddy's voice almost threw me off of Rush. I heard them once, decided they sucked and went on my own business. I then got a hold of 2112 and realized what an idiot I was. Rush is now one of my fave bands.
i think Rush is probably the most respectable band around. Their still going strong since late 60's/early 70's, never got in any fights (regrouped/broke up), and have the most well balenced music capabilities on all thier instruments. Very underated though...I never hear them on my classic or modern rock stations, and most people have never heard of them (around here).

EDIT: Could a mod make this an official thread? i dont know if their is one for Rush, but i know Id be a regular in here if it was.
I see you said they haven't regrouped but what about their drummer from the first album who was not good ol' Neil. Don't know if thats what you meant but thought I would point it out.
I do believe Rush is long overdue for an official thread........
That's why I made this :D

Cain 03-04-2005 06:12 PM

No more official threads will be made, sadly. Not every band of large repute can have one, otherwise that's all these forums would consist of.

That said, Rush have got the most competent musicians around, as far as I'm concerned: not only can they all play like bitches and in many many different modes, but their musical proficiency in terms of hooks and overall songwriting ability is quite staggering. The only area where I would say they falter would be in the lyrics department: Peart's metaphors and juxtaposition of contrasting images can get very amateurish sometimes. But these guys are a great group: I've actually been listening to them a lot after a long dry spell, now that I'm sort of sick of all the Dream Theater and Opeth I have.

Txus 03-04-2005 06:20 PM

i have never really gotten into them even tho i absolutly love 2112 but the other songs just not for me.

I agree in every respect. Every member is a legend in their respective instruments and each play with taste and restrain when needed. Rush should be held in hgh esteem by everyone who considers music pure and good.

TheSpecialist 03-04-2005 07:02 PM

Rush...They are amazing, i know must of the bands i listen are before my time, but ive really come to appreciate great music and Rush are one of my favourite bands, and it has to be sed one of my favourite Rush songs has to be Spirit Of The Radio, it owns!

red barchetta 03-05-2005 05:38 AM
Yeah well Eminem won an Oscar.

Does that make him talented? No.
can you prove that point? no.

his lyrics are extremely intelligent, just like many other rap artist's lyrics. stop being so stereotypical just cos he's a famous rapper. why dont you try and write some lyrics and why don't you try and compete in a rap battle? it's more harder than you'll ever imagine

Does anyone have any thoughts on "Rush"?
It gets slated here, but I like it a lot...

Refl 03-05-2005 09:01 AM

I have all albums except signals and grace under pressure.

<3 Rush.

symon 03-05-2005 09:07 AM

Rush is kind of like Boston -- you have to listen to them a whole bunch before you like them.

IAJP 03-05-2005 09:11 AM

I wouldn't say so, Rush are (in my opinion) a lot easier to get into than Boston.

TheSpecialist 03-05-2005 09:25 AM

I agree, boston are ok, but rush are amazing and i havent heard all that many songs :thumb:

IAJP 03-05-2005 09:26 AM

Does anyone have any opinions on Fly By Night?
I got it the other day and it hasn't stopped spinning in my CD player.

Didn't really like the album as a whole. Fly by Night, The Anthem and Rivendell are my fav on it though.

IAJP 03-05-2005 11:16 AM

Rivendell is a great song, I haven't listened to it for a while actually...

thunderzstruck 03-05-2005 12:27 PM

It's awesome how so many people on here love an underappreicated band like RUsh as much as me.

Rush had no huge single that made them popular. If someone has never heard of Rush and ask what songs do they play I doubt they have heard any of their songs.
Get what I'm saying?

Yes, good ol John Rutsey. I know about him, i got their regrouping deal from a guitar magazine, though i may have reworded it weird, missing some exception.

Still the closest youll get to real classic rock in a concert with an amazing band. I wouldnt say legendary, but close.

Rush's top single is probably Tom Sawyer or Limelight perhaps.

But Rivendell was boring at irst, but I have grown to love it.

|Another good song I like is Driven, I really like the first switch when it gets softer and he starts plain those hcords. It's really fun to play.

Boston is better. Boston was musical wizards. Listen to their new CD Coporate America before you judge them. Please.

rybass 03-05-2005 03:23 PM

La Villa Strangiato is the best song EVER!!!

yeah, totally - i think their biggest hit was 'new world man' (i'm not completely sure) and that song doesnt get mentioned alot in magazines etc.

i think rush is getting more and more appreciated because of the bands they influenced - for example, they influenced muse and dream theater, and the fans of these bands check out rush by downloading a random song.

Tom Sawyer was their big song.
Also they didn't just influence a couple of bands, they influenced culture.

red barchetta 03-05-2005 03:56 PM

^if i wrote down all the bands they influenced, it will take all night

i just wrote the famous one off my head

I -of course- get you are saying but i think that you are forgetting "Closer to the heart". This song is in every rock fans mind, while he doesnt even know what is its name. Also when it came out, as a single, it had huge impact to the 70's prog sound.

thunderzstruck 03-05-2005 06:15 PM

Rush = <3

Distant Echoes 03-05-2005 07:22 PM

I got a poster of their Discography on my basement wall. theres 27 albums out now,not including the 2/3 disc sets. Every 4 albums they release a live album, and i think they have about 3 official greatest hits. That still sums up to 15+ albums, which isnt bad for a revolutionary band.

I still think this thread should be official...

How many drummers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Two. One to screw it in and one to say "Neil Peart could've done that way better."

YYZ>everything

That joke sucks

Distant Echoes 03-05-2005 08:51 PM

Harsh...I thought it was pretty funny, but your talkin to somebody who grows up primarily around comedy from Family Guy and The Naked Gun

Im considering learning YYZ on guitar, and recently attempted to play on drums, since my experience isnt showing much improvment anymore. Wasnt great, but wasnt pathetic like i was expecting.

Sweet. YYZ's a great song, but nothing pwns La Villa Strangiato's first guitar solo in terms of incredible skill. The live solo Lifeson pulls on "Exit: Stage Left" is even more breathtaking: that was shred way before Yngwie made it suck.
