All kidding aside, very nice work. I have actually never gave AFI a real listen, maybe I should.
Same, I hated everything I've seen on MTV. But I hated everything on MTV that Coheed and Cambria put out but I love all their other stuff, I like my sci-fi rock. ;)

the_music_inside 01-15-2005 03:07 PM

3 words... holy... fucking... shit...
that profile was awsome. but some songs to add to the songs to listen to
bleed black
days of the phoenix
girls not grey
halloween (the outro is as long as the main part of the song, its awsome)
silver and cold (its different then most of the songs on the CD, its the softer side)
totalimmortal
the leaving song pt. 2 (awsome opening solo by jade)
and he who laughs last.
I've been a fan of AFI for a while, and I'm dying to get the box set thing with all of their hits from when they were on nitro records :thumb:

honkybrewster 01-15-2005 03:34 PM

Yeah, "Totalimortal" is pretty kickass. I liked the video too.

Davey Havok
I think that Davey is highly underappreciated in both of his duties in AFI. For one, he has written all AFI lyrics on the past few releases. Not only that, but if you look at the lyrics, you will know he is one of the best writers out there. He has the vocabulary of a motha and has taught me more words than my English teachers ever have. He uses a lot of imagery in his words and can pretty much paint a picture inside your mind with those words. The other thing I recognize him for is his singing range. He has good skills at singing low pitch (Ever And A Day), high pitch (High School Football Hero), screaming (Death Of Seasons), and talking (At A Glance). He can do it all pretty much. The man is very talented.
As a matter of fact, Davey has written MOST but not all of the lyrics on the past few releases. Jade did write the 1st and 3rd verse of the song "This Time Imperfect"

Anyways.... aside from that little mistake, Great post covering my favorite band!!!!!

Raynor21 01-15-2005 04:44 PM

Wow, well done, this definately does my favorite band an honor, way to pay homage! Those songs that you mentioned to download are by far some of my favorite, especially The Despair Factor!

aFi I$ $0 pHaGgIsH, U n00b!!!

No im jk, don't get angry.
I'm a huge AFI fan, but I think you shoulda put God Called in Sick today and their cover of My Michelle on the reccomended downloads list, and maybe something from the new album too, just for a bit of variety (I would reccomend Leaving Song 2 or Dancing Through Sunday for that).

Other than that, awesome.

TigerArmy 01-15-2005 11:39 PM

That was a nice read, good job man.

The_Red_Death 01-15-2005 11:53 PM

Nice job on the profile. :thumb: AFI kicks ***.

Dear, I would like to know why you don't include any of the wonderful rarities like Red Hat or Dream of Waking or Lower It? Those are some great old songs. Oh, and if anyone wants to rip the pre-ATASF stuff to mp3 for me, that'd be lovely. Man in a Suitcase would be nice too since they didn't put it on the Nitro version, only on the Wingnut version. Oh, and one more thing, you included the TLSP2 singles in your discography list, but you left out the GNG singles! I have 2 of those. Not the best song, but the little demos that come along are nice. Ixnay & Alli's site has the complete discography. Oh, and Death of Seasons, GCIST, and TTI should've been on the downloads list. Those are great songs (gotta love the industrial breakdown in DOS)

El_Shiznit 03-17-2005 11:05 PM

Well, well, well. Look what we have here. :D

I didn't include those songs, because honestly, I like the other ones better. Plus, the ones I listed are easier for new listeners to find. Dream Of Waking is one hell of a tune I must say. As is Lower It. I've heard every AFI song, and like them all. I can't put every track on there ya know. :thumb:

actually, Davey wrote all of the TTI lyrics. It's the Spoken Word on which Jade did the 1st and 3rd stanzas.

An obsessive AFI listener that:
~got ahold of 5 AFI cds within one month
~has AFI making up 1/4 of the cd collection
~is a member of the fanclub
~has received a letter back from Davey
???

Shizzy, do you have the full version of the Chicken Song? The one I downloaded only has up to "It's something to eat when your wife's in the shelter" :upset: I want the post-Jade-talking part too!

I do. I originally had the version you have, and was real pissed. So I went and finally found the real version.

Hmmm, of your accomplishments:
~Got ahold of 6 AFI CD's in one month
~I have too many CD's to want to make that into a fraction.
~Meh, don't feel like paying money. I'm cheap. :)
~Never had anything to do with Davey.

cheeser_1 03-17-2005 11:52 PM

why does it matter how many you get in a month? i'm sure i could get ahold of 12 AFI CDs in a month. why would that matter though?

I bet you can't. They don't have that many CD's. :)

Sep 03-18-2005 02:01 AM

Great job on that. Can't believe I've never read that yet.

They don't have that many albums.
I have eight AFI CDs. I'm sure there are four I don't have.

AndreTheHyena 03-18-2005 04:10 AM

Good job, man. They were one of the first punk bands I got into, and their first two albums still make me come.

fatwreckpunk 03-18-2005 04:13 AM

Thats a very good review, enjoyed every bit of it. You should do one on bad religion

maco 03-18-2005 07:06 AM
I bet you can't. They don't have that many CD's. :)
haha....well technically...if you go ATASF-STS that's 6, plus 2 EPs, that's 8, and then if you got a Black Sails EP, a few GNG singles....you could....There are 4 versions of the TLSP2 single, 6 of GNG, the Black Sails EP, the Total Immortal promo cd, DOTP EP, Wester promo single, AOD promo, AFI: A History (not the retrospective), STS Advance, 3 versions of the GNG radio promo, 2 versions of the STS sampler, and tonne more that I really don't feel like typing....

And the thing about getting them in one month is that I actually went that insane. I spent about $80 on AFI cds in one month, and I don't even have a job.

AndreTheHyena 03-18-2005 07:26 AM

Who cares?

They have 6 full lengths, and two main EPs in CD format. Nitro just released a compilation, so that is nine total. It's hard to find, but you could also get the Winter's Tale EP and the Black Sails EP. They aren't really that big because all of the songs except one, "Who Knew?", appear on later AFI releases. That's eleven, and the rest of the material I think is vinyl exclusive.

Thanks to all that commented again.

I'm pretty sure one has been done on Bad Religion already.
