oh yeah, the weight is perfect, but the sound is far too fast and punchy. suppose you wanted to have some continuous crashing in a groove.....they would not be very good at all.

look into a 16" AAX Stage Crash, and 18" AA Medium Crash.....that is most definatly the most versatile combo in my eyes.
I've used a 16" AAXplosion for that...it works. But yeah, the Stage Crash would be better. Both are excellent crashes.

I just bought 22" K Custom High Definition Ride. Man, it's like one of the most beautiful sounding ride i've ever heard in my life.

Sound Characteristics :-

-Very similar to Old K ride and K Constantinople rides but the overtone is more controlled. (I havent really played an vintage K ride, only read their sound characteristics from a magazine).

-Great stick articulation, it sounds like "tick" rather than "ping" , "tiss" or "ting". (this also depends on the stick and the condition of the tip of the stick).

-Not much overtone, so you still can hear the stick sound nice and clear, unlike K Custom Dry Light Ride, Dark Ride.

-very rapid decay.

Application :- Jazz/Bebop and other styles similar to those. The ride isnt very loud for its size, so it wouldnt be good in loud, unmic'ed live situations.
It is not a versatile ride, IMO it's only good for jazz.

I hope I make sense, and if anyone else owns K Custom High Definition Ride and would like to add anything.. please do so.

Cheerz,

Ivan

Hey, I need a second crash to go with my set. The crash I have right now is a Medium Sabian AA 16". I need a lighter/more high pitched sounding noise for rock, and was wondering what type of cymbals I should look into at the Music Store..

Plan B. 12-29-2004 01:27 AM

Sounds good Hyper Kid, I really wanna try one of those out.

Smurf38 12-29-2004 05:22 AM

What ride is used in Crazy In Love by Beyonce cause i love the sound.
What ride is used in Crazy In Love by Beyonce cause i love the sound.
most likely they're not using a drummer... just a synthesizer or drum machine or something.

Der Meister 12-29-2004 06:36 AM

Bibby, or others. I tried out the 16" AAXplosion crash (again) and the 18" AAX dark crash, i liked the difference in sounds, but i'm still stumped for a ride. I can't seem to find one i love yet. Quite bright. minimal wash, but some wash and nice and pingy.

bobby__johnny 12-29-2004 09:24 AM

AA Dry ride would be nice.

drummer_aaron 12-29-2004 12:34 PM

could anyone recomend a mini china for me, i am looking to purchase one just to add some variety to my splashs

one of my friends has a 12 inch aax mini china, and its sweeet, i even offered to sell my soul for it, but he wont haha

so any help woudl do on which are best sounding

bobby__johnny 12-29-2004 12:45 PM

many will tell your here that Wuhan is unrivaled. quite cheap too. however, if you want some tone too, you would probably end up looking at a bigger name brand of cymbals.

so, my suggestions:

the ever popular 14" wuhan

or my personal pick: the 14" HHX Evolution Mini-Chinese.

groomits 12-29-2004 09:48 PM

hey bobby can you tell me the difference between AA and AAX? I know you told it on the cymbals thread but I don't remember...

bobby__johnny 12-29-2004 09:52 PM

AA - small impact hammering. Wide open sound. Perfect for live gigs.

AAX - wide Impact hammering. Incereased control, but sound is a bit more focused and tight. response at all dynamics is much better (i.e - an AAX Metal Cras can still sound fairly good at low volumes). excellent in the studio

groomits 12-29-2004 10:00 PM

thank you, but what do you mean by small and wide impact hammering?

bobby__johnny 12-29-2004 10:23 PM

if you look at the hammer marks, you will see that AA's have small hammer marks, and the AAX's have larger Hammer Marks.

Kaptor306 12-30-2004 01:37 AM

im in search of a new crash from any brand. I would like it to be from 17-19" and have it sound musical, but yet be able to cut through a heavy metal band without ringing for 10 seconds. Thanks in advance

Plan B. 12-30-2004 02:49 AM

Try an 18" A Custom Projection crash. It's thicker than the regular A Custom crash, will have more sustain but still has musical qualities to it.

bobby__johnny 12-30-2004 01:37 PM

maybe an AA Medium crash?

InCasinoOut 12-30-2004 01:58 PM

I'm looking for a versatile 20 inch ride, preferably around the A Zildjian price range, and not too bright. I hear the ping rides are nice, what do you guys think?

bobby__johnny 12-30-2004 02:32 PM

AAX Stage Ride.

Seafroggys 12-30-2004 04:52 PM

Double post, sorry. These forums bomb a lot.
maybe an AA Medium crash?
Yay! I just picked up an 18" one, I'm so happy. It rings and decays like hell, but I'll know I'll get used to it (a bit different from all the thin dark crashes I've played on the last couple of years).

bobby__johnny 12-30-2004 10:08 PM

i got a 16" on Wednesday :thumb:

I have a 20" A Ping. Yes, it's very versatile. A nice solid 'ting', clear definition with enough low overtones to blend in and balance the bright attack. Go for it for sure. :) :thumb:

chaos_through_order_13 12-31-2004 02:58 PM

i'm looking for a bright crash without too much sustain, preferably within the 150-200 dollar price range. i was looking at a 17" A Custom Crash on the internet, and it sounded great, but i know internet recordings can sound different from when they're played live, so i was hoping somebody could tell me about how it sounds live, or give me some more suggestions for crashes :thumb: thanks

Sabian AA 18" Medium Crash.

I have a 17" A Custom Crash. It's a versatile crash.. opens up beautifully, you dont have to smash it to get a good sound out of it. I prefer playing A Custom crash than A Custom Projection or Fast Crash.

Nice tone, nice shimmer, just the right amount of decay, doesnt drown out the sound of the drums.... it's simply one of the best crashes in the market. And sometimes here in Australia A Custom crashes are sold at about 40% off.. so that's a good thing coz i got all my A Custom crashes at that price.

Massik Kretal 12-31-2004 06:16 PM

I have a few questions:

1. What is better Paragon or AA Metal X Splash? (I play rock and metal type music, also classic rock)

2. Is AA Metal X like Z Customs? Or AAX Metal cymbals? And which ever one it is...is it bad and non-versitile like Z Customs?

3. What should I get if I sell my Z Customs for 230 (or around there)? I want knew crashes. A's or Customs or AA Dark Crash...or anything else you recommend.

playwithfire 12-31-2004 06:26 PM

1. I prefer Paragons, they aren't as heavy, and have a more musical sound to them imo.

2. AA Metal X and AAX Metal would be...the exact same thing. AA Metal X is like the AAX version of AA Metal, and the difference between AAX and AA has been mentioned by Bobby already. They are less versatile than pretty much any other Sabian cymbal, but they are still more versatile than Z Customs imo. They *are* the Sabian versions of Z Customs however.

3. If you're used to smashing on Z Customs watch out if you switch to A Customs. The difference in thickness is pretty big. Only get rid of your Z Customs if you want to, replace them if you find cymbals you like better. Otherwise, no use replacing cymbals just because people on an internet message board think you should.
