Self Titled is my favourite, but I really like Battle of Los Angles. Evil Empires pretty good too, but the only song that I like on Renegades is Renegades of Funk.

I do, however think that Tom Morello is a bit overrated. I mean hes good, but he mainly uses pedals and plays on one string something like 5555-2222-4444. People here on MX make fun of Kirk Hammet for using his wah pedals, but with Tom Morello, they worship him. And in my opinion, his best solo is on Like a Stone, by Audioslave, because that seems to flow well. His best riff, in my opinion is Guerilla Radio, which is classic.
he uses the wah much more creativley however. i think that his best solo was in take the power back, it was easily his most technical. but the way he uses abstract noises and effects in his soloing is what makes him interesting to listen to, and people like it.

why do you people not like bolas its a really good album and in my opinion the best
why do you people not like bolas its a really good album and in my opinion the best
i just think the songs are better written and arranged on the first two. battle of los angeles isn't a bad album by any means, it just is more catchy and gets boring faster, good but not as good as the first two.

Static 12-21-2004 06:06 PM
they have a live album.

anyway, what do you guys think is the best Morello solo?
mine would have to be No Shelter, Darkness, Calm Like a Bomb, Wake Up and Snakecharmer...
Killing In The Name Of*, Maria, Without A Face
*KILLING IN THE NAME, can I please direct you to DonMancini's mini-rant at the top of the second page :)

Malakian Worshipper 12-21-2004 09:47 PM

self titled- definitely their best (revolutionising rap/rock, all songs are awesome), other albums r pretty good (fav songs, bulls on parade, sleep now in the fire) but sound a little too produced (thx brendan obrian/rick rubin), theyre great live band, but zacks vocals dont sound as good live

MAthiAS 12-21-2004 09:54 PM

I think its a tie with s/t and Battle of LA. And best solo is by far Know Your Enemy.

RageAgainsttheBush 12-22-2004 12:12 AM

fav album evil empire-because the other songs are wicked
fav song born of a broken man (live)-bass sounds so wicked live

my favorite band
you have to download songs like "darkness" right?

joebass 12-22-2004 12:53 AM

We need them back, I mean they break up and everything just goes to crap, politics, music...
Oh, my favorite album is Evil Empire although I love all of them and can't really think of a song by them I don't like

paradigm81 12-22-2004 05:53 AM
I'll start off with a simple subject: favorite album?

For me it would have to be self titled, for sure.
100% agreed. Nothing compares to those songs, hands down!

Apocalyptic Raids 12-22-2004 07:07 AM

i always thought Evil Empire was underrated, and BOLA was overated, but thats just me

Bartender 12-22-2004 07:11 AM
why do you people not like bolas its a really good album and in my opinion the best
It's a good album, but it's less consistant than the self-titled, for me, anyway.

spankyoplank 12-22-2004 07:35 AM

I think that ratm are one of the best bands ever. fve album probly battle of LA. I agree with Bartender, it is less consistent than self titled, some ****ing awesome tracks on it though, calm like a bomb guerilla radio, sleep now in the fire etc. Evil empire is underrated but stilll probly their worst album. Audioslae are nothing compared 2 them.

Thor 12-22-2004 09:43 AM

Question: Is this an official thread?

Anyways, the self titled is definetly the best, but the other albums are also very good as well. RATM is probably my favorite band. I cant really name one "favorite song" but here are some:
No Shelter
Freedom
Calm Like A Bomb
Bombtrack
Know Your Enemy
Wind Below

munky_magik 12-22-2004 09:46 AM

it's not an official thread, it's just a thread about Rage meaning that it will die and be replaced by other threads,
if it is an official thread, then I reckon bartender screwed up a bit :p

Thor 12-22-2004 09:47 AM

Well someone should make an official RATM thread (hint, hint)

munky_magik 12-22-2004 09:51 AM

Try that in the "ask questions" thread, but I reckon your request will get turned down as there aren't enough RATM threads popping up constantly to justify having an official thread dedicated to them. Try it anyway though :)

Thor 12-22-2004 09:57 AM

Just saying this out loud.....but if RATM got back together, do you know how much money they would make? It would be rediculous.

munky_magik 12-22-2004 10:17 AM

As much as I love Rage, I think it would be peanuts compared to the money that some bands would make by re-forming

Whale and Wasp 12-22-2004 10:39 AM

my favorite song is freedom, especially the end

FREEDOM! YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

id552 12-22-2004 10:41 AM

All the albums are really cool, except renegades; one of the most unique and creative bands doing covers?

munky_magik 12-22-2004 10:45 AM

they were just paying tribute to their influences. Level of creativity has nothing to do with playing covers

EDIT: and they weren't really the most creative band ever. I guess they created their own style but stuck very much within that style and never developed or played with their sound that much.
By far the most creative element was tom Morello, but after he created his own sound and style he just stuck to it totally and never deviated from it.

slave to the waffle light 12-22-2004 11:23 AM
**** him for leaving rage is one of the greatest bands ever i would do anything to get them back together!
i agree. i wish they would come back.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-22-2004 12:04 PM

I'd say that their debut album would be my favorite album of theirs. Every song on there has something different about it that I like. My favorite song off of the S/T is probably "Take the Power Back." That solo is just so friggen cool, because it shows that Morello can put together a good shred solo, not just using his wah pedal.

What do you guys think of "Township Rebellion?" I think that song is awesome, because not only do I like the insturmental parts, but it's one of the few RATM songs where I actually appreciate Zack's rapping. Plus, the bass sounds like a digereedoo. (sp?)

Bartender 12-22-2004 12:23 PM

I like Township Rebellion. I think the only song I would change/remove from the self-titled would be Settle For Nothing. Not sure why, it just sounds kinda lacklustre compared to the others, and never really appealed to me as much.

Arucard 12-22-2004 12:30 PM

My fave is Evil Empire, even though ST is the most well rounded Rage album, EE has some amazingly standout tracks.
