4ft fingers are pop punk, i own 2 of their albums and have seen them a few times.

Lexluthor 12-01-2004 02:46 PM

Well whatever, I still love them.

Slash4040 12-01-2004 03:48 PM

*braces for flames* I hate punk!

He said they were pop-punk, not crap. Pop-punk doesn't equal crap
I'm 26, I listen to punk since I was 12, but this will turn in "more punk than you" bull$hit, so I don't it's important.

I've done interview with Steve Whale from Business and he speaks about Business as a punk band.

Check out "Burning Britain: UK punk 1980-1984" book. You'll read inside that Tom Hoxton, founder of 4 Skins talks about 4 Skins as a punk band, and much more evidences about oi as a subgenre of punk.
You "Oi's not subgenre of punk" guys are either deaf or dumb. Choose for yourself.

Oi did not start before punk.
How?
Please, explain that "oi came first" nonsense.
Are you sure youre not from Australia and your name isnt Zane?

Hahaha, ive found Zanes twin!

If I remember correctly, a skinhead who has grown their hair and dresses a bit nicer than a skin. But I'm not sure.
What's a suedehead?
skinhead with hair a tad longer, about 1 inch of hair if i remember right, around that area, they're alot like mods, just trimmed hair.

Sick_boy_Samhain 12-02-2004 05:31 AM

No, I'm not from Australia, I'm from Croatia

George Marshall in his book "Spirit of 69" talks about Sham 69, Angelic Upstarts, Cockney Rejects...and labels them as "streetpunk", because these bands were/are undeniably punk rock bands, and also they were there before whole Oi! hype produced by Gary Bushell in Sounds. Latter bands, as 4 Skins, Business, Blitz, PTTB, Last Resort; Red Alert, Infa Riot..., are called Oi. But again, this bands were on "punk charts" in UK music press, played on punk tours and festivals, got included in punk compilations... Unlike gothic or psychobilly from that time.
To say Oi is not punk subgenre is as rediculous as "hardcore, skatepunk, power violence, _______ is not subgenre of punk" quote.

And although **** Sparrer were formed few months before Sex Pistols, they were obscure pub rock band, with influences such as Rolling Stones, Small Faces, Slade and Dr. Feelgood. More glam rock than (pre) punk, as you can hear it on their early tracks. Come on, you cannot lump f.e."Sister Suzie" in oi punk, right?

why you here then?
Oi is cockney slang for hey.

NYHC, where hardcore got its oi influence due to alot of skinheads getting into hardcore, included such bands as Agnostic Front, Warzone, Murphy's Law, Cro-Mags, Sheer Terror, etc. It, btw, started around the time of 81-82-ish

Oi started in the early 70's not the late 70s and early 80s. Keep in mind the working class influence came from the fact that most Oi of the time was done by skinheads and its sub-groups (i.e. suedeheads, mods, etc. note: Sham 69's singer was a suedehead as was the 4Skins' bassist).

The National Front did not exploit and corrupt the impressionable youth through the music, it was mostly simply through skinheads trying to make them boneheads. their form of oi dint come around til later.

if anything else comes to mind ill post it...
you cant realy compare jimmy and tom as the same sort of person. jimmy was a muppet. tom wernt. jimmy cried when the stage got rushed by nazis at shams last stand. dont see tom crying after the 4 skins, last resort and some other band whos name escape me play southall and aparently start a racist riot (complete bull****) but i dont see tom crying despite being called a nazi along with every other skinhead but especialy the 4skins on bbc nationwide. They play a gig to try and prove theyy aint nazis. the stage gets rushed. tom dont cry. jimmy was a mug tom wernt.

sorry about that little rant just thought it was nesecary. Also tom was one of the first punks but later became a skinheady mod (close as i can describe it) but then became a suedehead

SantaDuJuan 01-16-2005 09:15 PM

Not a bad thread to bring back.

Sparrer77 01-16-2005 09:21 PM

skrewdriver originally were a punk band and played with the sex pistols, i have alot of there stuff, I love them, but i try not to listen to the incredibly racsist stuff.
But even tho they were c'ockheads they were still a bloody great band

Sparrer77 01-16-2005 09:22 PM

oh and check out my band, at http://www.mp3.zoob.net/showband.php?band=Mickey%20Flash, Be sure to check all 3 songs we put up coz they are all different, according to other ppl one song sounds like 'the exploited' another sounds like 'dead boys' and the other is just Oi

If a skins hair is long enough to modify with a comb, hes a suedehead.
Very nice thread.

I'm not going to jump to conclusions here or anything, but you look like a white power twirp. If you are, you wouldn't last too long here in Toronto...

...Actually, I take that back. Your testicles are still up in your ribcage. When we see young nazis, we usually give them a couple years to shape up their act before we do anything about it.

There's a lot of mis-information on this thread especially JAtomics posts.
OI! CAME OUT OF PUNK(FACT!),NO PUNK WOULD'VE MEANT NO OI!(FACT!).
As Sick_Boy_Samhain has already posted;-**** Sparrer formed in 1974 or 75 'as a hard edged pub rock band in the vein of Dr.Feelgood'.

SickBoy 01-20-2005 06:48 AM

even most oi bands think there just in a punk band

Awsome job I love Oi! music.

Some of my fav. bands are:
The Business
4-Skins
Blitz
Cockney Rejects
Angelic Upstarts

Skidmark Steve 11-13-2005 10:40 AM

so basically Oi is music about fun, life, and the working class? is there anything else to it?

pedro durruti 11-13-2005 12:57 PM

Yeah, curb-stomping minorities (but that can be included as fun)

username77 11-13-2005 02:05 PM

I love Oi! I don't know a lot of bands, but I love the ones I do.

DaveToopes 11-13-2005 02:05 PM
Yeah, curb-stomping minorities (but that can be included as fun)
Hell's yes it's fun!

white_riot 11-13-2005 02:37 PM

Oi is great but I think we all already know that. Oi bands are punk bands. Punk started before Oi. Who really cares!. Go have a beer and play some football.

Ghostfire3 11-13-2005 08:32 PM

It's kind of hard to say which came first because bands such as The Stooges (who were around in the late 60s) could be considered punk even though many call them "pre-punk" or "proto-punk"
