The solo in "Free Bird" is pretty lousy.

The solo in [I]The thing that should not be[/I] of Metallica's Master of Puppets, it's not the worst, but it's a very weak solo that has a over use of the whammy bar randomally through out the whole section. Nothing special compaired to the other tracks on the album.

I love that solo because it is so weird and unorthadox. Good solo! it makes that song great. O yeah and morello is a badass with effects and i think it makes his playing very unique. Who says that you have to stick with wah and distortion?

I fking hate Morellos solos. Yeah they were cool for the first 3-4 I heard but he just is relentless with the effects. Hes trying wayyy too hard man, just sh*t the hell up and play a normal solo already god dam.

Worst solo IMO is Smells Like Teen Spirit :upset: (A solo isn't all about the guitar just singing the lyrics, it has to be original and thoughtful)

Lou Reed's 'Metal Machine Music'. But that was meant to be.

And I happen to think most Pantera and Slayer solos suck, but that's just me. I wouldn't say they're the worst, but they're close.

I'd also consider a lot of Yngwie's stuff for Worst Solo Ever.

I agree with that totally. The second solo on Wake Up would be the worst offender for me. That, and Show Me How To Live.

Edit: Having said that, I love Shadow On The Sun, and think it's possibly Morello's best solo.
