does anyone have the new lamb of god?

Invicta_Veritas 09-10-2004 12:43 PM

why is it all of a sudden cool to rip music? do you people not know that half these bands are still trying to pay their rent, and you all are not helping?

maggotfelon 09-10-2004 12:51 PM

go back to the RIAA
why is it all of a sudden cool to rip music? do you people not know that half these bands are still trying to pay their rent, and you all are not helping?
While I agree file sharing isn't exactly "right", most of these bands already got payed for making the album. When you buy a CD, the money is probably just gunna go to the label.

I have in flames colony for the guy who asked.

Invicta_Veritas 09-10-2004 12:59 PM
While I agree file sharing isn't exactly "right", most of these bands already got payed for making the album. When you buy a CD, the money is probably just gunna go to the label.
Incorrect, my friend. Some bands recieve an advance which they have to pay back before they get anything else, other bands are on labels that cant afford to give them a sizeable advance. In either case, artists earn pennies from a single cd sale, and lets face it, most of these bands that we listen to and enjoy dont exactly go platinum in a decent amount of time.

So the best thing to do is if you like a band, show your support and pay for the music you want. File sharing and sh*t is part of what is tearing down the music industry, to the point that stores have to slash thier prices so much that nobody makes a profit, and still nobody wants to pay for thier sh*t anyway. Come on man, have some respect for the artists who fight for everything they have.......its not easy to get signed, let alone sell to people who would prefer to rip thier sh*t off.

=_DarkWynd_= 09-10-2004 01:18 PM

...great, here comes another pointless argument...

ninjamonkey 09-10-2004 01:18 PM

well, not from me. I honestly don't care enough.

Det_Nosnip 09-10-2004 01:35 PM

Take it somewhere else, dude. If you don't agree with it, don't post on this thread..this is for trading files only.

Anyways, most bands (especially metal bands) make most of their money from concert sales, NOT record sales. Plus, you have to remember that these companies also have less expenses than mainstream/popular labels, due to the fact that they have little to no advertising and only distribute to select places.

In addition, the internet is quickly growing to become the fastest and best way of spreading new music, and about 90% of the artists discussed on this thread would never have even been discovered if it weren't for the internet. That means that we either have a choice between not listening to an album (getting the band nowhere) OR listening to it for free, possibly liking it and attending their show (getting the band more money and name recognition, which then helps them get bigger venue concerts which amounts to even more money, etc).

Finally, I don't know how other people handle themselves, but my personal philosophy when it comes to music is that I use MP3s to check out an artist, and if I really enjoy the album, I then go out and buy it anyways. It doesn't work for me to just listen to one popular song (especially for this stuff, as there ARE NO POPULAR SONGS ON THE RADIO) and decide to go buy the CD.

Many of these albums are only obtained through mail-order catalogues, anyways (thank god for centurymedia.com!!), which usually involves a good deal of hassle as you have to order the CD, wait for it to come, etc...it's not like you drop over by Best Buy and pick it up (although, I will admit, Best Buy has really gotten on the ball in terms of just under the radar stuff).

So, basically: **** off and let us enjoy our music.

Invicta_Veritas 09-10-2004 01:39 PM

ok you go ahead and enjoy your music--but keep in mind that theres a f<ck of a lot of people who like to just rip sh*t cuz they dont wanna pay for it, and bands like mine have to suffer because of it. but whatever floats your boat, go right on ahead. i wont stop ya

nice post. There would be no way to check out new metal bands easily if it werent for the internet and mp3s. I would not like the same music I like today if it werent for the internet. I actually have no idea what I would be listening to right now.

Would a band rather have you enjoy their music at the cost of downloading, or never have even heard of them?

My downloading has introduced me to new bands. Then, I introduce soem of these bands to my friends. My friends go a buy the CDs. Then possibley they introduce the bands to other people. Downloading probably helps metal bands much more than it hurts them.
