TimJim 04-12-2009 11:41 PM

Angmar 04-12-2009 11:47 PM

I haven't read anything in awhile tbh, I think The Shining was the last book I read.

Route_1 04-12-2009 11:47 PM

Silmarillion is amazing.

"...as a mountain that wades in the sea and has its head above the clouds and is clad in ice and crowned with smoke and fire; and the light of the eyes of Melkor was like a flame that withers with heat and pierces with a deadly cold."

Makes me wish my friends weren't all greedy dope heads.

Stormrider 04-12-2009 11:54 PM

Tbh, I think I rathered The Silmarillion than what I've read from LotR, even though I liked that too.

I'd have to start reading that again, though.

hismajestythepope 04-12-2009 11:56 PM

Yeah, I just got done reading LOTR, and The Silmarilion is definitely more epic.

I wish Tolkien could've split it into full books for each story, I mean, that'd be absurd, but goddamn that've been so epic.

I'm just hoping Christopher Tolkien will do something with the Lay Of Luthien like he did with Narn I Chin Hurin.

Nostalgia 04-12-2009 11:58 PM

The Hobbit, The Fellowship, and The Two Towers are good, but The Return of the King is lammme.

hismajestythepope 04-12-2009 11:59 PM

The Return Of The King is awesome tbh.

But man, wtf, why does everything have to end all happy and ****, ugh.

The Silmarilion was more epic in scope, however I prefer the more personal feel of the Lord of the Rings. When I first read it in the 7th grade I got chills up my spine when Gandalf was slain in Moria.

hismajestythepope 04-13-2009 12:01 AM

A valid point!

Route_1 04-13-2009 12:02 AM

sounds cheesy but lotr helped me through some tough times in high school.

:nerd:

Stormrider 04-13-2009 12:02 AM

Melkor/Morgoth just sounds much more epic than Sauron haha

Route_1 04-13-2009 12:03 AM

He didn't just emanate darkness, unlight surrounded him.

Stormrider 04-13-2009 12:05 AM

Sit now there, and look out upon the lands were evil and despair shall come upon those whom thou lovest. Thou hast dared to mock me, and to question the power of Melkor, Master of the fates of Arda. Therefore with my eyes thou shalt see, and with my ears thou shalt hear and never shalt thou move from this place until all is fullfilled unto its bitter end
