Yeah...

I just found some tabs for: Kill Devil Hill, Power of the sun and Navigate the seas of the son...the guitar riffs are those really cool, but simply ones...but the bass is:

YDload 05-19-2005 05:00 PM

Surprisingly, Steve Harris is getting plenty of nominations in the top bassists thread. That's good! I wish I could say the same for Chris Squire though :(

There's no way that guy isn't top 100 material. He's the best pick bassist ever.

vashts80 05-19-2005 06:36 PM

I've always wondered, how does Steve get that clicky type sound? I want to try and get a good tone on my poor little GSR190 and 10w Ibanez practice amp, and I doubt that I can get a good Harris-emulation out of it, but I'd like to emulate him as much as I can.

I have bass all the way up, mids all the way down, treble all the way up, prescence all the way up and volume at mid way. On my bass, I have the P-pickup solo'd (J muted and P all the way up) and the tone all the way up.

Thunder Fingers 05-19-2005 06:38 PM

^i have no idea, i tend to get the clicking nomather what i tend to have my eq on...

If you have ever watched him on a video he looks like he is attacking the strings pretty hard with his fingers, so maybe that and a combination of eq settings give you that clicky sound, but good question i have always wondered that too.

YDload 05-19-2005 08:32 PM

The clicking sound comes from the string hitting the frets above the ones you're using. Say you're fretting the seventh fret (fairly common in Maiden songs :p), the clicking would come from the string hitting the 19-20th frets, or somewhere up there. I like that sound, but I can only get it by attacking the strings really obnoxiously and plucking close to the end of the neck (like Geezer).

thelittledrummerboy 05-20-2005 01:24 AM

who played the instruments on Bruce's solo album?

Lord _Abortion 05-20-2005 02:20 AM

weird, steve plays more or less directly over the pick up...

Deth 05-20-2005 07:44 AM

I can't sound anything like Steve because I have a double humbucker bass.

Lord Abortion 05-20-2005 08:34 AM

heh... "humbucker"
sounds quite sexual...

NP- purgatory

the_uber_penguin 05-20-2005 10:48 AM

Does anyone know what effect Adrian uses from bars 72 to 76 in The Wicker Man (it's about half way through the guitar solo, after where he plays a slower riff quite low on the guitar, and just before he slides up to do the high part).

I think it's chorus, but it's really bugging me.
