brown recluse...ugh

yesterday I either stomped on a Wolf spider or a Brown Recluse, I didn't get a good look.

I was lifting a vent out of the floor to run a cable down into the basement, and I look up and from underneath the door a spider trots over and sits a few inches from where my hand was moments ago. STOMP! down the vent.

Gross.

Ok, since Lickety posted that MKII pics last page, here's an update on my busted MKIII...
it's busted.

Well the tape part doesn't work anymore.

But I found (yes, FOUND! on the curb, nothing wrong and it runs!!) a P2 computer, and hooked it up in the basement.
Now using the MKIII simply as a mixer and Audacity acting to record, our recording problems are solved!
:D
yay!

Oh yeah, badass news for my band.
I got an email yesterday asking if we wanted to play with Embrace Today, so of course I said "**** YEAH!"
*Embrace Today = well, http://www.myspace.com/embracetoday they're pretty big in the metal/hardcore scene*

So now we have a show on October 6th (7 days) and December 3rd, need more in october or november now.

Massik Kretal 09-29-2005 08:44 PM

I got Finale notepad and all the drums are latin percussion instruments. Even when I do only one line of bass drum I have the choice of a bunch of latin instruments. This sucks.

Juicy_Forlorn 09-29-2005 08:47 PM

Ugh I know, I hate that about finale notepad! But actually, the drumset sounds are waaay down below the staff line. I hate how its like that.

Loyton 09-29-2005 08:48 PM

so wrathchild, who voted YOU the hottest drummer?

Massik Kretal 09-29-2005 08:49 PM

Oh...dammit I uninstalled it already uninstalled it. Do you think finale 2006 has the same thing?

poppinfresh 09-29-2005 08:50 PM

I'm too uncreative to think of a new usertitle.

Juicy_Forlorn 09-29-2005 09:01 PM

So today a super awesome thing happened....

My school is getting a $10 000 grant for our band program!!!

Our band teacher has some major plans for the percussion section. We're gonna get our timpani fixed, buy a gong, rehead ALL the drums, and maybe buy CHIMES!!! I'm so psyched, I love chimes! And also, we're gonna get new cymbals for the set, and I might be able to buy the old ones for cheap. A 20'' A zildjian medium ride, 16'' A zildjian medium crash, and 14'' A custom hats! I'm super excited about all this, I can't wait!

Massik Kretal 09-29-2005 09:03 PM

Cool. I remember when my band teacher got 1000 bucks to spend just for the drums. He went straight to me and told me what to get.

Ah K hi hats. :)

Juicy_Forlorn 09-29-2005 09:09 PM

Awesome. I'm hoping we'll be getting some K customs, but I doubt my teacher wants to spend that much on cymbals:(

rockindrummer 09-29-2005 09:17 PM

The band department at my school just got a new yamaha set last year. It is pretty sweet, yamaha maple custom. The cymbals suck so much though, B8 hats and crash they got a hhx groove ride which is nice but I don't particularly like it. It is like all wash and there is no real stick definition, which is what I love in a ride, and also the bell isn't very defined either which I also love in a ride. It sounds like a 19"ish crash, eventhough it is 21"

rockindrummer 09-29-2005 10:56 PM

Wow slow night in the stronghold tonight. Well i'm off talk to ya guys tomorrow night. New splash and heads tomorrow wooooo, unless I don't find one I like tomorrow then no splash.

Double Bass Jim 09-29-2005 11:30 PM

Our school had some nice cymbals for band I rememeber, I think they used all zildjians nice A's and K's.

Tim 09-30-2005 12:02 AM

my school ( i wasnt in band by the way i just always looked at the stuff) has a few sabian HH cymbals.

Voodoo Rabbit 09-30-2005 12:24 AM
like a brown recluse? the spider bite that eats away your skin? wait... im being vauge here you go http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/chp/brown%20recluse/

No it doesnt look anything like that one... but still thats freken awsome look through the pictures in order 1-7 itll make you feel good about YOUR wound. I bet that guy cant even think about playing the drums. (then again his hands pry amputaded)
*

I was fine looking at the wound and stuff.
But that spider. Ewewewewewewew...

That's why I like tiny spiders, instead of freakin' huge ones, with long legs.

Josiah 09-30-2005 03:49 AM

HAha yea, nasty buggers dem spiders. By the way, I have a neighbor who was bit by a Brown Recluse a few years ago. He was bit on the ankle, and pretty much it looked like those pictures... all of them, except those last few pictures, like that, except much much bigger.
He was a trucker though, and it was figured he picked the spider up somewhere outside of CA, as we don't seem them much here.
Pertaining too those spiders though, I hate them.

In other news -

Stagg!

The only thing I don't like about that kit, is the Bass Resonant head...

* So -

At work today, my boss made me sort some books to be sent to retirement homes. I found it mildly amusing when he said 'Don't get anything to raunchy. Because it's for old people, y'know?'.

Nearly the weekend, then two whole weeks off.
Joy...

Drum Phil 09-30-2005 06:17 AM

Yeah it was a spur of the moment thing ages ago. As soon as i can afford a new reso, its coming off.

Win A Rabbit 09-30-2005 12:16 PM

well yesterday i had 4 seperate migraines, all between 11:00 a.m and 11:00 p.m, averaging about 2 hours each.

man it was terrible.

and i finally shaved yesterday. it was getting too long for my liking, turning into a bad mountain man beard, it was past the length of a good mountain man. so now i'm clean shaven, and i'm getting a haircut this weekend, i believe.

Drum Phil 09-30-2005 12:41 PM
