How did you like the Secret Machines gig?
I once saw them, and they were not bad, but it did not blow me away.

On a vaguely related note, I now remember why I usually don't go to gigs without friends. Yesterday I went alone, the band did not show up for 2 hours, and I sat around, bored to death.

denboy 03-19-2005 09:58 AM

Hmmm.. I've pondered this for a while.. What bands should I recommend people who absolutely loves Nirvana, to expand their musical horizon? I always seem to run into all these people who love Nirvana.. And I think it's a waste of musical interest to waste it all on Kurt koben

Iai 03-19-2005 10:03 AM

Well, the obvious ones, mainly - Pixies, Dinsoaur Jr, and Mudhoney.

Then branch out a little - Gang Of Four, or Faith No More, maybe.

Or you could take the historical root - go back to Led Zeppelin and work from there.

They were pretty good, but not as good as when i saw them support interpol last year. The drumming is so ferocious that it drowned out the guitars and keys a lot of the time but when the instruments were turned up it was lot more enjoyable. It was strange, they seemed a bit tired and annoyed (except for the drummer who kept smiling at my ex). Although they did pick themselves up for the encore of first wave intact and nowhere again and that was brilliant.

I dont like to say it but M83 were sooo much better on the night

Oh yeah the cheeky drummer handed my ex one of his sticks at the end as well, but what he didnt know was I had already stolen one that he dropped on the floor :D

Three bands I've never really listened to.. Hehehe

Iai 03-19-2005 11:36 AM

Mudhoney - Touch Me I'm Sick
Dinosaur Jr - Freak Scene
Pixies - Debaser

If I were gonna narrow it down to just 3 songs.

Zappa 03-19-2005 11:40 AM

Wright Brothers avatar.

Iai 03-19-2005 11:46 AM

The aviators?

Zappa 03-19-2005 11:47 AM

The bassist/drummer from NoMeansNo and Hanson Brothers

Iai 03-19-2005 11:57 AM

Ah, okay. I thought it must have been a musical reference I wasn't in on.

Zappa 03-19-2005 11:58 AM

Have you never listened to NoMeansNo?

Iai 03-19-2005 12:03 PM

You just reminded me, I have a grand total of one of their songs.

It's the one you put the lyrics of in your journal a while back. Lonely, I think?

I don't remember.

Get the entire Wrong album. It's great.

Iai 03-19-2005 12:09 PM

I've been meaning to for a while, but it's ludicrously expensive (the second most expensive album I've seen round here that isn't some kind of special edition, in fact), and my PC is being screwy with downloading and stuff.

It's on the wishlist. The long and winding wishlist. :(

It's gonna rule when I get my new PC.

Zappa 03-19-2005 12:12 PM

Get one now.

Student wages = obstacle.

I'm actively looking round for great deals though, especially from people who will build the PC for you if you buy the parts individually, which by the looks of things seems a lot cheaper.

Don't forget The Replacements, for people who inexplicably love that kind of voice.
