eh, buy him ride the lightning. 7 of the 8 songs were all K,J,L, and C and the only song dave helped on was Ktulu. ride the lightning has amazing guitar and lyrics. it's a great album, IMO metallica's best
Sorry man but you're wrong. "RTL" (the song) was also written by Mustaine.(the solo)

Joe 11-14-2004 06:47 PM

if your going to buy two get him either MOP or RTL and then for the new stuff get Garage Inc.

Joe 11-14-2004 06:48 PM
Sorry man but you're wrong. "RTL" (the song) was also written by Mustaine.(the solo)
ah ok, well the best songs IMO are fade to black and for whom the bell tolls and those are two songs to get someone into really liking metallica

Even though Mustaine wrote "RTL" its still a super-super awesome song! And even "anti-mustaine" people should agree that the solo that he wrote on "RTL" is pure genious!

do it :thumb:

That's how I play the first solo and it sounds not that bad:

your guitar part came close, but small details of it are wrong. I have the actual guitar pro tab of it, and if you want i can post the midi file also, but heres what it should be 100%. play your pick near the end of string to give it a real treble-y effect.

-------Sharp bend here ------really exentuate(sp) the pull offs
--------------------|-------------------------|---------------------|
--------------------|----3h2------3h2------3--|--3h2----------------|
--------2--4b-------|--------4--------2-------|------4--------------|
----2h4-------------|-------------------------|---------------------|
--------------------|-------------------------|---------------------|
--------------------|-------------------------|---------------------|

this part is tricky, but play triplets while you slide down the fretboard
-------------------------------------|------------------------|
-------------------------------------|--------------------2h3-|
---11h9h7--9h7h6-7h6h4--6h4h2-0-2/|--4----------2/4--------|
-------------------------------------|------------------------|

--------------------------|--------------------|----------|
--2-------------2--3h2----|--------------------|----------|
-----------2/4---------2--|--2/4~--------------|----------|
--------------------------|--------------------|----------|
--------------------------|--------------------|----------|
--------------------------|--------------------|----------|

fast sweep pick here
----------------------14--19----|--17h15-14-15---------------|
-------------------15-----------|--------------15------------|
----------------16--------------|----------------------------|

mean't to be played on the second string to give a more bass sound to it

hope this helped

led_zep_luvr 11-14-2004 08:17 PM

hey i have been hearing stuff about godsmack playing for about half the show with metallica and that kinda sucks because i hate godsmack.
so for you people that have seen the metallica/godsmack show, please answer these questions
1. Does godsmack play for half of the show?
2. How many times have you seen metallica?
3. What songs do they play for sure, every time?
4. Im gonna see the godsmack/metallica show on nov. 27 2004 at 7 30 pm
at the arrowhead pond in anaheim. have you been their?
5. If so, is that a good place to go for a concert?

led_zep_luvr 11-14-2004 08:18 PM

nevermind, i will just make a new thread

Metallica_4_Life 11-14-2004 09:40 PM

if i post anything already said my bad I only read to page 10 sorry couldn't stand reading 300+ pages. so far this is what i think

St. Anger although nothing like Metallica is still good. Reason why the drums sound bad is they were recorded without mices Lars thought it sounded cool(pretty sure its true forgot where i heard it).

Fav. song- if I had to chose would be creeping death but i love anything before Black

Fav. Solo- Ride the Lightning but I still like Anesthesia(Pulling Teath) Rocks

Fav. Video- One love the strobe lights

A little history of how it started:

Lars and James got together and recorded a few songs with james at vocals, bass, and guitar and of coarse lars at drums. after that james got friend Ron McGovney to play bass and Mustaine to play guitar

picked up Burton in the bay area Mustaine fired Hammit picked up from Exodus Metallica was formed

The name was stolen by Lars. While helping his friend find a name for his band his friend suggested Metallica Lars liked it suggested another name for his friend and kept Metallica for himself

And thats all i have to say about that.
Ok, I was reading all the sleeves of my CDs, because I really don't have a life. Anyways, I was looking through the Garage Inc. booklet, and I was suprised at how many of my favourite bands are also listed as influences in Metallica's music.

So, my suggestion is that everyone check out at least one of the bands in the Garage Inc. booklet, and then post back here what you thought of them. This will give us a really good outlook on Metallica's growth and style. If you guys are too lazy to look through the Garage Inc. booklet, I'll post the bands mentioned in it later on today.
Well I already like Mercyful Fate. Misfits are awesome also

Wow....don't think i've ever seen worse english....anyway, i'd have to say The Unforgiven mostly because of the lyrics. I really don't think the lyrics in The Unforgiven II are good.

diablo83 11-15-2004 01:57 PM

im sick and tired of all these metallica threads. i go on this site at least once a day and i always see a thread regarding metallica..........bottom line, they're done. and for the record they are not all that. you guys act like they are the godfather's of metal. they're sound is so generic. despite all these harsh words, i don't hate them. but i think they are so overrated.

thriceheadbanger 11-15-2004 02:07 PM

I was talkin to my friend the other day and got in a fight over which is a better song. "One" or "Fade to Black". I pesonly thought Fade to black is a better song but he insisted that "One" was. What do you guys think?

hets 11-15-2004 02:10 PM

one!!

Lazlow 11-15-2004 02:11 PM

Fade to Black was a much more personal song, and hence was sung with alot more passion.

I prefer Fade to Black.

jaymz_is_god 11-15-2004 02:17 PM

I prefer Fade to Black. I think One is over-rated, but still a great song.

hdurdtrioffparol 11-15-2004 03:00 PM

i favor fade to black over one

Chu 11-15-2004 03:09 PM
I prefer Fade to Black. I think One is over-rated.
Except I hate One, but it really is overplayed, they should play 2xFade To Black at concerts instead of playing One :thumb:

But everyone here has good reasons.
Fade To Black is a much more personal song (I guess because we can all feel like that sometimes).

Joe 11-15-2004 09:06 PM

fade to black has a lot of lyrical soul. i like the guitar in both. i think fade to black has a better tune. rock on

The Bell Tolls 11-16-2004 02:16 PM

Fade to one obviously....

Metallica_Fiend13 11-16-2004 04:10 PM

hey there ppl, new to this forum, but not new to metallica, fan since early 90's, just wanted to say, i'm a bass player, and i can play a lot of there stuff, and i'd like to get involved in a lot more of the "know how" of some songs

Metallica_Fiend13 11-16-2004 04:19 PM

if i had to pick favorites from each era of metallica, i'd say:

Kill Em' All: Seek and Destroy and the Four Horsemen
Ride the Lightning: For Whom the Bell Tolls and Creeping Death
Master of Puppets: Battery, Master of Puppets, and Disposable Heroes
...And Justice for All: Harvester of Sorrow, Dyers Eve, and Eye of the Beholder
Metallica: Sad But True, the Unforgiven, Don't Tread on Me, and My Friend of Misery
Load: Until it Sleeps, King Nothing, and Bleeding Me
Re-Load: Carpe Diem Baby, Low Man's Lyric, Fixxxer, and the Memory Remains
Garage Inc.: Astronomy, Whiskey in the Jar, It's Electric, Am i Evil?, So What, Die, Die My Darling
....and though St. Anger is my least favorite, i would have to say: Frantic, Some Kind of Monster(i love playing that on my bass) Invisible Kid, My World, and All Within my Hands....wheww...there it is
