Jordan was recognized by his 2nd grade teacher as an exceptional piano player, and was immediately given professional tuition to enhance his prodigious talents. By the age of nine he entered the prestigious Juilliard School of Music for classical piano training, but by his late teens he had grown increasingly interested in synthesizers and progressive rock music. Against the advice and wishes of his parents and tutors, he decided to turn away from classical piano and try his hand as a solo prog rock keyboardist.
Okay I already knew he went to Juiliar but I didn't know he stopped classical in his late teens. What the hell? He could have been way more mindblowing that he is now. Oh well, the influence he had on Dream Theater is good enough. And by the way, his hand position is the worst I've ever seen. I can't believe they let him get away with that at Juilliard. Surprised his hands don't fall off. |
Nah he's canadian.
That's not an ethnicity. I think he might be of Italian heritage. |

Absolutely amazing. James is more likely French with a name LaBrie. |
It does remind me a lot of FF actually.
The whole of the Overture on 6DOIT reminds me of FF. Is the Pink Floyd cover CD officialy released now btw? Even my record shop were asking when it's due, and they make sure they get every bit of DT related material in |

They sell DT cds in the Virgin near me but they're way overpriced, like £20.

But yeah, they've had in at some point all DT albums, Petrucci/Rudess ones, all OSI albums, 2 of the 3 DT DVDs, and im pretty sure they had Element Of Persuasion. Helps when the owner is a big prog fan, and DT nut. Just finds it hard to re-stock |
Sounds like an awesome store, wish there was something like that here.

There's a bit of Bohemian Rhapsody in there at the start with the piano bit.

Does anyone know the concept behind octavarium?
Like how they had done eight studio albums and five live ones, so MP thought it was similar to the eight white notes and black notes of an octave on a keyboard. And that each song on the album went was written in ascending keys so the album was like an octave eg. track 1 = a track 2 =b etc until with octavarium it comes 'full circle' eventually ending on the same note that the root of all evil started on. I think this is really clever. |
