 yeah I love Wreath, but I've already seen them play that, and yes it kicked major ass! I would love to hear Karma live, I want to see that so bad.

If they play Karma at the concert tomorrow, I'm gonna snap. I so wanna mosh to the outro.

I'd like to see them play Blackwater Park and maybe even Face of Melinda, but I'd love to see them play Karma live. That song is so lethal...
You realy do want to see that live, eh ? :p |
I'm still hoping for a surprise BWP and Face Of Melinda... not looking good though. :upset:
I don't think they ever play those songs live, do they? Anyways, if I had to hear one song off of Still Life I would pick "The Moor". |
^ Ofcourse they do. They did the last North American tour in the fall. Sometimes The Moor to.
|
Serenity Painted death > the moor for live excitement.
Anyhow, Karma should be an interesting listen. Or that little solo in "By the pain I see in others". Yeah well. That little solo. |
BWP was played all throughout the NA 1st leg as the closing song, and then they'd come back and do Demon as the encore. They switched up Face of Melinda and The Moor, I believe it was (I got FoM in Philly)
|
Oh god that was an amazing setlist, every song captivated me (despite my stomach condition causing me to almost pass out). As far as I know, everything was spot-on, and they were just as tight as they were in the DVD. Mikael's humor was great, he really had the crowd going ("**** FLOWERS?"). I think he made us say "I like meatballs" and "I like to suck my ****" or something like that. Really refreshing after getting flipped off repeatedly by DevilDriver.
The crowd wasn't too bad either, I just had to fight a little bit to stay in place. One good thing DD did was start that stupid movement during their last song that allowed me to push through about 30 feet or so to the fifth row of bodies, otherwise DD was kind of annoying (someone I brought with said he didn't like DT but loved DD....I didn't say a word, just drove a little faster). DT did play a short set though, so I was a little disappointed. I was going to shake their hands but I figured they didn't want to be bothered, especially with all the chicks around them. One thing I noticed is that a lot of people will band together to stop or remove somebody from the crowd that acts like a fool. One guy almost started a fight with me until people swarmed around him. |

That sounds pretty damn epic, even for Opeth's standards. :) |

^It was the same as the other shows, I talked to someone else that went.
|
Do you know the setlist?
The setlist is different for every show I think. I was at the same show Blizzink was at. I'll post my review of it later tonight. |

Why did he try and start a fight with you? |
As we were standing in line at around 4:15pm Mikael walked out of a side door to First Avenue and the dude next to me went to shake his hand, Mikael said ''I have shit on my hands'' but he shook it anyways. It all happened so fast I didn't realize it was Akerfeldt until he was in the tour bus. Then, like 15 minutes later, Peter walked out, looked at us smiled and went in the bus as well. It was pretty cool, though I missed the handshake again...
Over all the show was amazing, DT and DevilDriver were great as well. DevilDriver actually stole the show in terms of moshing. That place was almost falling over when they were on stage. Opeth's setlist wasn't bad, again they didn't play Demon Of The Fall, and they almost played Black Rose Immortal. Right before The Drapery Falls, Mikael said ''This is Black Rose Immortal'' and the place went nuts, then he laughed and said, ''Just Kidding, this next song is off of our Blackwater Park album, The Drapery Falls...'' Mikael was a crackup the entire time, very good show. Here's the setlist in order. Ghost Of Perdition White Cluster The Amen Corner The Baying Of The Hounds Closure Under The Weeping Moon The Grand Conjuration The Drapery Falls Deliverance (Encore) |
Here's the setlist in order.
Ghost Of Perdition White Cluster The Amen Corner The Baying Of The Hounds Closure Under The Weeping Moon The Grand Conjuration The Drapery Falls Deliverance (Encore)
That's a decent setlist, but it's too bad that their BWP selection wasn't that great. I bet Deliverance was great though. |
Haha that's pretty mean!
|
Haha that's pretty mean!
It would be pretty mean, but if I had to pick a song for them to play off of Morningrise it would be "To Bid You Farewell". That's not only the best song on the album but one of Opeth's best songs of all time. |
Ghost Of Perdition
White Cluster The Amen Corner The Baying Of The Hounds Closure Under The Weeping Moon The Grand Conjuration The Drapery Falls Deliverance (Encore)
That was our setlist in Milwaukee too. |
That would be ridiculous if they actually played BRI...
Mikael WAS goddamn hilarious. Good moments: Somebody yells, "Give me your guitar!" He holds it over the audience, JUST out of reach. Backdrop = Ghost Reveries. "See that logo? It's pretty ****ing evil. Anybody know where that's from? Tis from our new album...which is ALSO pretty ****ing evil." "I don't like corpsepaint...I found out it makes me look like a whore." So great. However, I still think Townsend stole the show with comedy. "HERE'S WHAT I DID INSTEAD OF HAVING SEX!!! *sweeping solo* That and a ****load of Dungeons And Dragons!" |
Metal bands that crack jokes are great. I don't really like bands that take themselves really seriously.
|
That's a decent setlist, but it's too bad that their BWP selection wasn't that great.

His vocals are surprisingly accurate and the harmonizations are good too. The growl is even better than on the cd.

Well when you've been playing guitar for as long as he has I'm sure anyone can have amazing chops like that. |

That is why Demon of the Fall live > Demon of the Fall on CD. :) |
That is why Demon of the Fall live > Demon of the Fall on CD. :)
That's very true. I always thought that song was above average on the album but then I saw a video of them playing it live. I then had a whole new respect for it. After seeing the live clip, the studio verrsion just doesn't measure up. Can anyone possibly direct me to a link that has them playing "The Leper Affinity" live? Since that's my favorite Opeth song I'd love to see how they do it in concert. |
Why did he try and start a fight with you?
He pushed everyone out of his way instead of asking, so I shoved him away from me. Then he started some weird **** next to me, like an overexaggerated headbang that took up a lot of space. I just stood there with my arms crossed, planting my feet and keeping my elbows in place. Eventually he started pushing on people, trying to get them to mosh, but the group I was around really didn't want to have anything to do with that. Only thing I did was move over more and become more rigid so he'd have less space (and thus he kept hitting me and getting caught on me, it wasn't like I was talking trash or punching him). Apparently he was pissed, as my friend alerted me, but then two tall guys that came for Opeth walked over to each side of him, and he stopped. |
Oh man, I can not wait for the March 17 show. Dear God, I've said it before but everytime I come in this thread I almost explode from anticipation.
Exploding would ruin the show. |
Anyone going to see Opeth in Saskatoon this Tuesday?

People like that should be burned at the stake. |

That's terrible, guys like that should just stay in front of their bathroom mirrors. At the concert I went to, there was this dude with exceptionally bad breath standing behind me, and every time he yelled "Opeth", I would have to clench my teeth to keep nausea down. I was eventually forced to move, but I lost a really good view of the stage. I wish people would bathe/brush before coming to concerts. |
Speaking of lame people at concerts...
Has anyone ever been surrounded by chain smokers at a concert? That's happened to me on several occasions and it makes me feel like I am on the verge of suffocation. Smokers suck. |

I was suprised as well. I thought he was just your standard (for lack of a better term) "nu-metal" guitarist. But he busted out some great stuff. I had some drunk guy scream "Hail Satan!" a bunch of times next to me. Ended up pushing him into the pit. And have him flip me off. I'd like to give a shoutout to him. I still love ya, buddy! |
I was at the Milwaukee show that Moses and Blizzink were at too. Dark Tranquillity were amazing. I'd forgotten how awesome the chorus of Punish My Heaven is. After they were done Mikael Stanne jumped down and shook the hands of the people in the front row (me).
DevilDriver... fuck DevilDriver. I'd never heard them before the show, but I found their music to be kinda mindless. Just a series of heavy songs without focus trying to get the crowd to mosh. Opeth were brilliant. Aside from one harmony vocal spot that Per couldn't quite find his note on, everything was perfect. Akerfeldt is a really funny guy on stage, teaching the entire crowd to say "I want some meatballs today" and "I want to suck my own penis" in Swedish. I actually managed to get my phone out to take pictures of Mike, Peter, and Martin too. And I caught one of Peter's picks. All in all the most amazing concert I've ever been to. Two days later and my ribs are still wicked sore. |

Nice. Me and my band are coming up from Moose Jaw too see 'em. The five total hours of driving will be hell, but It'll be worth it. |

Did you see me? I had the Tool shirt on, with all the spirals and stuff.
When has Devin ever played Nu-metal?
Love? is kind of nu-metal. |

Wait... You live in a town called Moose Jaw. Sounds like an awesome place... |
Did you see me? I had the Tool shirt on, with all the spirals and stuff.
Heh, I saw someone with one of the Tool spiral shirts on (there's at least two types, I have 'em). If memory serves though, he looked more like Grizzly Adams than you, and he was smoking with a group of people (I couldn't breathe). I saw someone with an Amon Amarth shirt and figured it was someone from here, but as the night went on I saw a lot of people with shirts that had good bands on them. |
