To me it's more about the universe as a whole than the individual movies, as much as I adore the original trilogy.

I agree, though I also think the countless "Extended Universe" titles by other authors means the credit can't solely be attributed to George Lucas.

Apparently people are employed by LucasArts (or whomever is in charge of the Extended Universe) to read each new novel and check the continuity doesn't clash with something George Lucas has written/envisioned, as well as every other friggin' Star Wars:EU storyline. I think the gayness that the Extended Universe authors brings in ends up leveling out all the cool ideas they contribute.

Nothing against them. I just would expect them to sit in the library discussing things they haven't researched, especially the mature age ones. Many of my good friends are education majors, and two of my ex-girlfriends are also education majors.
