They're so rediculously cheesy. They look like they were written by an 2nd grader. It's like a sorry excuse for something poetic.
They're not that bad.

Plus they're by LaBrie, he doesn't really write much in DT and basically he's required to write at least 1 song for each album.
Some of the tracks from Derek Sherinians new CD are posted on his website

like wut are some songs written by him?

Jev 06-17-2006 11:40 AM

He only writes lyrics.

Wait For Sleep
Anna Lee
One Last Time (I think)
Vacant
Sacrificed Sons
Medicate in Octavarium.

ghettoeddo 06-17-2006 01:37 PM

yea one last time is written by him. im pretty sure.... :\

his lyrics aren't always ace, but that's ok :]
he's really a much better vocalist than many people give him credit for. people confuse their dislike with his lack of talent/skill whatever a vocalist needs.

Jev 06-17-2006 01:40 PM

His vocal melody in One Last Time's chorus is creamworthy.

ghettoeddo 06-17-2006 01:46 PM

yea. i love the ending of it...it's so triumphant.
does the piano outro to that song remind anyone of harry potter? haha

NP: solitary shell

Jev 06-17-2006 01:47 PM

Not really but that little bit they reused in Octavarium gets me everytime.
I'm like "wtf where have I heard that before?" every single time.

Element of LED 435 06-17-2006 01:53 PM

That's some of the band's best songs right there...Anna Lee especially.

Don't forget Disappear, one of the best songs off of the last three albums.

True, and he co-wrote Caught in a Web with JP.

What parts of the song is that?

ghettoeddo 06-18-2006 12:34 AM

yea im wondering that too.

i've almost got the whole of octavarium memorized and down...minus that stupid shredding part which really doens't need to be there. but that's ok :]

NP: the spirit carries on as i am brought to tears by it...

eug008 06-18-2006 12:40 AM

You mean at 16.47

Jeeze that would take ages

ghettoeddo 06-18-2006 12:42 AM

memorizing it?

it's actually a prety easy song to play. there are times when he just plays the same power chord in diff. patterns over and over again. i've got apretty good finger-memory so it helps too w/ solos

eug008 06-18-2006 01:21 AM

Yeh memorizing it, how long it take ya?

ghettoeddo 06-18-2006 01:24 AM

a week or so.
like i said, it's pretty easy.

and it helps to play along w/ the song...speeds the memory process up.
im trying to memorize losing time/grand finale now...then ill have 4 part of 6DOIT udner my belt :]

eug008 06-18-2006 01:47 AM

Whoa my memory is so ****, it'd probably take me a month to memerize Octavarium

Chu 06-18-2006 01:51 AM

Nah, after a while, the more you memorize, the easier it is to memorize other music...

ghettoeddo 06-18-2006 01:55 AM

word word.
been memorzing classical pieces since 4
>< looks like it was good for SOMETHING.

Is James Labrie German or of German heritage?

hmmm not really, but does that random keyboard fill/break thing in the middle of 'Under a glass moon' remind anyone of final fantasy?

Riva 06-18-2006 05:13 AM

It reminds me of a Nintendo game actually, but I can't place it.

Jev 06-18-2006 05:17 AM

It does remind me a lot of FF actually.

Firecracker 06-18-2006 05:36 AM

Octavarium copies teddy bear's picnic.

inassociationwithdeanlearner 06-18-2006 05:46 AM

I really love the use of enjambment in part III of octavarium, it makes it sound so much more interesting and makes the references to other bands and stuff harder to spot. Its a really nice change of lyrical structure.

Jev 06-18-2006 05:48 AM
Octavarium copies teddy bear's picnic.
Isn't there Jingle Bells in Sacrificed Sons too?
