Even better, this new material is actually a good representation of Heathen's old material. It's looking like they will be the first 80's bay-area thrash band to release an actual full thrash album.
You mean first 80's Bay Area thrash band to release an actual full thrash album of modern times [post-2000]? |
Exodus did already, Tempo of the ****ed, that's the only Post 2000, bay area thrash album to come out that I can think of off the top of my head
|

That's what I was trying to get to. Heathen's new release would be the second. |
It could be argued that Tempo isn't 100% thrash. Mostly due to the presence of Throwing Down, which was a song from Gary's mid-90s project Wardance.
|
I was gonna actually say that. It's more a mid-paced attack, than a full on bludgeon, eat your baby kind of attack.
Anyway! still a great album. |
Death Angel's new album had its moments, though its more like all the best bits from the previous albums mixed together IMO
Apart from the first two albums, what other Flotsam And Jetsam is worth getting? |

It's still "more thrash" then most of the stuff that's being labeled as thrash these days. |
Thats good, their old stuff is hard to come by.
Not really, ive seen it before. Breaking the Silence is better than Victims of Decpetion imo |

Very true. There's no part on that album that I don't like but yeah, 'Throwing Down' is not all that thrashy. |
Ordered Eternal Devastation/Mad Butcher. Excited.
|
Tempo of the Damned had half-thrash moments, and Death Angel's latest wasn't fully thrash either.
Efil: I meant first 80's Bay Area thrash band to release a comeback album that was fully thrash. Heathen's would be the first. :p Dargon sent me an Exorcist (Pol) demo, and it was so awesome. 'Twas evil and blasphemous, and it fucking rips! |
Bonded By Blood > TOFD
English class today, and I realized how such a classic is ignored by my "metal" peers >.> It's alright though. Their douche bags anyways. XD LONG LIVE PAUL'S LEGACY! |
Wasn't Bonded by Blood written in 83? I read somewhere that if it was released when it was written, Exodus could've been given credit for the first thrash album.
|
The writing process was completed in '84.
If Overkill had actually gotten signed, the first thrash album would've been released in 1980 or early '81. I want Ulysses Siren to reform, badly. Slim chance though, seeing how Jon Torres is back with Heathen right now. NP: Ulysses Siren - And Then There Were None (Live Exodus Cover) |
Well it was recorded in 84, so it wouldn't have been the first, but i think they would have been a whole lot bigger if it had been released then. They did have many of the songs written in 83 though.
|
It still pwns \m/>_<\m/
|
BBB is much better than TOTD.
It would be great if Ulysses Siren got back together. Shame they never released a full length album. |
Yes it does, its underrecognized. Hell, I don't know anyone who really knows Anthrax and they're in the big 4.
|
Above the Ashes was great.
If Bonded had been released in '84, Ride The Lightning would've been a mere afterthought. |
Do you guys like StormTroopers of Death? I think there alright there lyrics are halarious
if you even consider them as thrash |
Yeah, they are pretty good. Charlie Benante does great in that band.

It was a different Exorcist I think. The Exorcist Dargon sent me was n3cr0 as fvck (Excuse the the true talk).
Carnivore > SoD |
picked up Feel the Fire, and Completed my 80's Overkill collection!!
NP: DEF LEPPARD - WASTED yes, I like Def Leppard, fuck off  |
Do you guys like StormTroopers of Death? I think there alright there lyrics are halarious
if you even consider them as thrash
I really like them. I enjoy them for their sense of humor and fun factor. I'd call them crossover, similar to DRI and Cro-Mags. |

Carnivore > SoD
Ah, you're right the one that is in that site isn't the Pol one. Still pretty good though. the Pol one sounds sweet though :) NP: Polterkrist - The Backstabber |
Haha, that Exorcist front cover is great. The dude at the front with the shirt on cracks me up. It's the shirt! classic.
Yeah, S.O.D. are crossover and pretty good. As I always say, shame about the solos, but the one Charlie does is pretty good. Hmmm is there actually any other bands whos Drummer helps with the Guitar parts? NP: Heathen - Goblins Blade |
I think Gene Hoglan helped with the guitar parts in Dark Angel, especially after Jim Durkin left.
|
Do you guys like StormTroopers of Death? I think there alright there lyrics are halarious
if you even consider them as thrash
They are an ok crssover band, but i'd rather listen to them for a laugh than to enjoy the music. :p I think Hoglan did some guitar work on Leave Scars? |
I think Gene did do some on Leave Scars, on Time Does Not Heal he wrote most of the lyrics and music, Brett Eriksen was quite involved too
