hey someone told me "screamo isn't real, it's what simple people use as a blanket term for post-hardcore, metalcore, deathcore, etc. etc" my life is ruined
While you can occasionally blur the lines between post-hardcore and screamo, the same cannot be said for metalcore or deathcore.
Whoever "someone" was probably thinks "any music with screaming in it is screamo", in which case, they're wrong and you shouldn't take what they say seriously because they obviously don't have any idea what they're talking about. It's easiest to illustrate by example; screamo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb0E3y5Hp30 post-hardcore (which is difficult to define as it is): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDJtAqXbZ1c metalcore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIB9Cai5kZ4 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf-VhWXU6Js deathcore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRtIHzt7Ej8 Apologies for some of the dated examples. But it's clear that none of the aforementioned genres sound close enough to all be called "screamo" Also, I'm new here, and I do find it a bit odd that the screamo/emo thread is in the rock/metal forum when screamo/emo branched off of the punk scene. Unless this thread is about "screamo" like BVB and "emo" like MCR. In which case, I am definitely in the wrong place. |
Jay, why did you quote the newbie who clearly has no idea what he's talking about instead of having a discussion with these fine people here, like my good man Adabelle?
Also, finally you got your ass on here |
Because the newbie was being fed lies. Someone had to save him. Best case scenario, him and his friend learn something at the end of the day.
Also, nice seeing that you kiss more ass here than on UG :p |
I'm seriously dropping the ball on 2012 screamo releases :/
All I have is I.V., Riala, Disquiet (I am an Adam Thomas fanboy :p), Lumens, and Shizune's little EP |
You didn't get Calculator's EP?
Grab the Stockades demo as well: http://stockades.bandcamp.com/album/demo-2012 There was the Preliminary Recording EP from Capacities as well, that was good. Those four tracks are on this page: http://capacitiesnj.bandcamp.com/album/the-unexamined-life That's all I really have from 2012 that you haven't already heard. |
Some other good 2012 releases
Apart-Gray Light For Want Of-Smoke Lord Snow-Sovngarde The Saddest Landscape-After The Lights |
Speaking of TSL, anyone else pledge for their kickstarter? They finally passed their goal last night. So when that comes in, I'll have all four studio albums, the limited flexi discs they're sending with the boxsets, and their split with PBTT. Now I just need their split with WWS and their CYH 7" and I think I'll have one copy of everything.
|
I thought After the Lights was poop
|
I pledged as well, pretty stoked on those Flexi disks and boxset.
After The Lights was really no different than their previous releases, but they've found a formula that works for them and stuck with it. Can't really expect anything too different from them. I love how In Love With The Sound is basically a big fuck you to elitism. |
I don't know what it was, but after how much I loved You Will Not Survive, After the Lights was just super meh to me :o
|
YWNS > ATL, but I still dig both. But YWNS was what got me into them, so it's always gonna be "that" album from them for me.
I'm also getting the limited zippo lighter in my pledge c: Really wanted the "This Heals Nothing" flask, but I was like at school or something when the preorders for ATL went up so I missed out on those AND the pinwheel vinyl. But I got the 180g black, so that's cool enough. |
You Will Not Survive was my first album by them too and forever one of my favorite albums. I too am saddened that I did not get one of those flasks, I got the 180g black as well.

Who are you people
Welcome tho, threads dead |
I'm Jay. New here. Dig a spot of screamo and emo occasionally. Confused as to why it's in the rock/metal section as opposed to punk.
Not much else to say. |
Who are you people
Welcome tho, threads dead
Word, honestly can't remember the last time i came here and there had been this many posts in one day from more than just mappz and juddz.
Also, nice seeing that you kiss more ass here than on UG :p
I'm seriously dropping the ball on 2012 screamo releases :/
Uhhhm, besides stuff that's been mentioned, Aussitot Mort released some tracks and so did Jowls, errr, plus that Dollores album i posted yesterday. Not much else to say.
There is one in the punk section too, but from I can tell they hate each other. |

you mean like the subforums hate each other or everyone in the punk section hates each other? |
Punk forum is pretty dead too.
Skramz thread revival would be p cool |

Well, what parts confuse you?
|
you mean like the subforums hate each other or everyone in the punk section hates each other?
A few years back when the forums were more active each subforum had its own community and regular posters, even in the instrument section. It got until a certain point where the last active music subforum was R&M and pretty much everyone who posts in here had a wide range of tastes so genre threads which didn't fit into that subforum began popping up so people from here could take about it. Hence this thread. Ofc this was before the mass R&M emigration. All the dudes who did post here and who'd been on here since it was musicianforums (including myself) as of last month decided to post elsewhere, and aren't coming back. So unless the void is filled with or review site users or they all have a change of heart, this subforum and the last real music place for music discussion on this forum will die on its arse. |
Ah, I see. There was a mass exodus out of a subforum a few years ago on a site I still post on. Many of the regs haven't come back.
But I post on their new site too, so it all works out. I'm only here because Dylan wouldn't leave me alone :o As if I needed another forum to distract me from studying :p |
