Fierce Melon is my favorite. "Purple Rain" is actually a flavor of MD 20/20.

Hey guys, I'm interviewing Animal Collective next week...what do I ask them? If you're a fan what do you want to know? I've never done an interview and I'm nervous

Neoteric 10-25-2007 11:48 AM

Oh crap, that's really cool. I really wouldn't know what to ask them! Just discuss with them about their new album and stuff I guess.

Kage 10-25-2007 11:50 AM
Hey guys, I'm interviewing Animal Collective next week...what do I ask them? If you're a fan what do you want to know? I've never done an interview and I'm nervous
It'll be best if you're honest with them, let them know you've never done and interview and just keep it laid back and conversational. Prepare some questions but let the conversation go in natural directions, instead of stifling it with some kind of routine.

Neoteric 10-25-2007 11:52 AM

Kage knows where it's at.

I'm guessing you are interviewing them for your student magazine Kyle?

(*The Noonward Race*) 10-25-2007 11:56 AM

watch lots of band interviews on youtube or something

learn how to do it passably maybe you'll do well

Kyle 10-25-2007 11:59 AM

Yeah it's for the student mag.

I think you've got the right Idea Kage, thanks. I've got a pretty good interview with them in a magazine I bought so I'll read that again for ideas. It should be quite fun though, and can't wait to see them play afterwards. I think Strawberry Jam is such an awesome record.

YDload 10-25-2007 02:00 PM

i wish i liked that band so i could just feed you questions, but i've got nuthin

Otherside 10-25-2007 02:30 PM

I'm always interested in what music bands listen to. What AC listens to may be exceptionally interesting? idk.

Panda Bear: "Yeah, but actually, I'm trying to forget about that, Kyle."
Kyle: "Oh...right, right........stupid, I'm so STUPID!!! God!!"

I asked the bassist of Black Moth Super Rainbow what is favorite band was and he said Wolf Eyes and Boards of Canada. I thought that made perfect sense because if you combine those two, you would get BMSR. Kind of interesting.

i'll save you the trouble. all "indie" rock bands listen to the same things: obscure bands that sound similar to them, obscure bands they've toured with, The Beatles, Velvet Underground, black people music from the 60s and 70s, and anything on Rolling Stone's top 500 albums list.

also Panda Bear was featured in an Onion AV Club "Random Rules" where he shuffles his iPod and talks about the songs that pop up.

yes, first you need the three obscure bands with really really uninteresting names that would only attract the most uninteresting people towards listening to them (the Microphones, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and anything mentioned in the What I've Been Digging Lately thread), then the classic staple bands that nobody is allowed to dislike, such as VU, and then some very ironic music (because irony is indie), so maybe Liberacci (sp?) and Kanye West, and then some artsy crap that doesn't sound good at all so that they can say "well, i guess if you're into instant gratification or if you just can't appreciate more deep styles of music, i guess they wouldn't sound good to you..." and suddenly they sound like the smart ones, even though they listen to utter crap.

YDload 10-25-2007 03:20 PM

ok so here is Panda Bear's stuff from "Random Rules" :

Basement Jaxx- Good Luck
Erik Satie- 3eme
Can- Spray
S.E. Rogie- Advice to Schoolgirls
Phil Collins- Sussudio (oh how deliciously ironic!)

Glitterati 10-25-2007 03:54 PM

I wonder what music Sam Beam is listening to when he's not carefully looking after his majestic beard.

YDload 10-25-2007 04:03 PM

i thought he was amish or something, i dont think they have music-playing devices

(*The Noonward Race*) 10-25-2007 05:05 PM

the only thing more indielitist then indielites is the hyperbole in explainin indie obscureness.
