Which songs did cliff write?
dont forget to live is to die

munky_magik 01-26-2005 09:41 AM

My apologies to everyone about the whole Darcane/Tallica mix up, I honestly Thought it was them.
Mistakes happen :)
cliff burtons solo in orion is ****in awesome, the only songs he ever wrote were the instrumentals with the exeption of a couple songs.
He co-wrote more than a couple, but he did influence the other members a lot.

acefrehleyjendell 01-26-2005 10:34 AM
Nice contribution to the thread shit eater. Anyway, I know Cliff co-wrote Master of Puppets, Orion, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fade to Black, and Call of Ktulu.
Actually Ktulu was James, Lars, and Dave.

It actually did sound sorta like Metallica. The singer sounded like James most of the time, but there were a few points where you could tell it wasn't him. The guitar tone was a little bit off too, but overall it wouldn't be hard to confuse that with Tallica

bartman 01-26-2005 10:37 AM

the question is will metallica ever go back to their old real metal days?

acefrehleyjendell 01-26-2005 10:56 AM

Have any of you guys heard Metallic Attack 'The ultimate tribute'?.

I got it last week, and i think the bands did a real good job.

Best Tracks from it :
Damage Inc (Flotsam & Jetsam)
Whiplash (Motorhead)
Trapped under ice (Death Angel )
Holier than Thou (can't remember but it had Eric Singer from KISS, Sabbath, and Alice, on drums)

^Dream~Theater^ 01-26-2005 11:19 AM

Dream Theater covered the entire MOP album and did it very well.

Burdcheese 01-26-2005 11:25 AM

^^Where can I get that?
I've got the video of them doing MOP (the song), but I haven't been able to find the rest

You got AIM?

mariojenkins 01-26-2005 11:36 AM

**** yeah I would love to see Dream Theater covering some Metallica. Lol I also think that's funny that Motorhead is on a Metallica tribute album, since Metallica were the ones heavily influenced by MH.
And about good ol Cliff, it's really too bad they lost him, because he was definitely the classical sound of the band, into the instrumentals and stuff like that. I'm pretty sure that him not being around had a lot to do with them not putting instrumental songs on any albums past ...And Justice. (To live is to Die is a tribute, so...) And long songs on the new album wouldn't be a bad thing, I just don't think they should be too repetitive. People were listing all the "epics"...what about Disposable Heroes man? I can hardly think of a better song to rock out to.
I WAS BORN FOR DYINGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fraid not

munky_magik 01-26-2005 11:44 AM

slsk, anything?

Burdcheese 01-26-2005 11:48 AM

Not really,

I only really use MSN and Kazaa (well and mIRC occasionally)

acefrehleyjendell 01-26-2005 11:51 AM

Are no leaf clover and -Human on garage inc? i havent heard that record
for about 7 years.

I know there on S&M, but i'd love to hear a proper version of them.

Burdcheese 01-26-2005 11:55 AM

^^Those are the proper versions :smoke:
Only on S&M.

Though they play them live without an orchestra

munky_magik 01-26-2005 11:59 AM
Not really,

That's a problem. I could send it through MSN, but it might take forever.

slaytallica250 01-26-2005 12:00 PM

Do they play -Human live? I know they play Clover (seen it myself...very kickass), but I've never heard of them doing -Human other than S&M. Which sucks because I really like -Human.

Burdcheese 01-26-2005 12:49 PM
That's a problem. I could send it through MSN, but it might take forever.
Don't worry - I'm not desperate.
I was more interested in whether it was on a website etc.

I'll do a Kazaa search (and yes I know there are much better p2p programmes - but them and me don't get on)

leomondaine 01-26-2005 01:34 PM

how about the whole cd???

it's tough...i'm stuck between to favorite songs. sanitarium and fade to black
how about the whole cd???

two amazing songs. out of those two, i would pick fade to black because i like the solos better. but i like the riffs in sanitarium like right after the main guitar solo and right before the last guitar solo

Burdcheese 01-26-2005 01:50 PM

Two songs that definately should have been on S&M

mariojenkins 01-26-2005 01:57 PM

Yeah that's true. But they probably left those songs out of S&M for a lot of the same reasons Nirvana never performed Smells Like Teen Spirit on Unplugged. But Fade to Black would have definitely worked out great with the orchestra back-up.

Joe 01-26-2005 02:33 PM
Two songs that definately should have been on S&M
yes, but you know what? that sucks for everyone that went there. it's on live sh*t and they played em at the concert i went to

so i'm good

Mister_Che 01-26-2005 03:27 PM

Yeah, I think we all would've loved Fade to Black and Unforgiven on S&M. Too bad it got the axe.

Burdcheese 01-26-2005 03:37 PM
Yeah that's true. But they probably left those songs out of S&M for a lot of the same reasons Nirvana never performed Smells Like Teen Spirit on Unplugged. But Fade to Black would have definitely worked out great with the orchestra back-up.
Thats because SMLTS represented the antithesis of what Cobain wanted Nirvana to be. Anyway to be acoustic it would have needed a huge rejigging, probably even moreso than Clapton's Layla unplugged.

However, thats all a discussion for another time and place.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that Fade To Black, Sanitarium and The Unforgiven were all planned for S&M2, but it never happened because of the death of Micheal Kamen :upset:

In a cave on Mars, with my eyes shut, and my fingers in my ears.

I usually don't hear about deaths unless I watch the news or its someone in the family.

In the documentary Jaymz says they didn't do Unforgiven because the orchestra couldn't play something to complement it and sound good. But it would have been sweet as hell.

^Dream~Theater^ 01-26-2005 04:34 PM

Funny how you post decently in here slaytallica, But yet in the pit about 10 minutes ago, you made a thread saying how messed up you are and 3/4 of the words couldn't be understood. Lol posers are always funny.

I haven't got round to watching any of the extras yet - just the concert.
That DVD is teh cool beans.

That's not really the same. Smells Like Teen Spirit wouldn't have been very good acoustic, but Fade to Black and Sanitarium would have been perfect with orchestral backing. Like One.

If you'd like me to tape myself drinking next time I'd be glad to, but trust me...I'm definitely drunk right now. And as I said in the piss post thing, I've developed a talent for typing drunk.

P.S.: Not 15 like that dude said...9-8-86 is my real B-Day...i'm 18 in college, basketball game tonite, obviously gonna get ****ed up for it. have a nice day
