new Across Tundras leaked :D
dude i am so behind i literally just listened to western sky ride for the first time yesterday haha

Tyler 09-25-2009 01:35 PM

Is this band always so grandiose? I mean, this is really, really awesome but I kind of feel like I'm finishing a marathon in slow-mo right now. It's actually kind of motivational sounding and I just picture the guitarists having several fans on their hair at all times.

But yeah really awesome and this is just the first song.

Nepenthe 09-25-2009 01:37 PM

grandiose music is gay

Tyler 09-25-2009 01:48 PM

says the former self-appropriated master of 'fiking' metal

Nepenthe 09-25-2009 01:49 PM

yeah i definitely ran 'grandiose' music into the ground for myself, never to be enjoyed again

Nostalgia 09-25-2009 06:40 PM
This first song is bordering on power metal.
yeah i expected that, their last album was verging towards that as well. im expecting it to be pretty cheesy

Sorrow of the Angels isn't nearly as grandiose, but Of Empires Forlorn is really grandiose and it's also my favorite by far.

Angmar 09-26-2009 10:21 AM

I really like Of Empires Forlorn, it has some powermetalish features to it but I think they pull it off well, really good vocal melodies too.
its pretty damn good man, btter than western sky ride
yeah i didnt think western sky ride was as good as dark songs of the prairie. couple of tracks were excellent, but as a whole it was definitely weaker.

Txus 09-26-2009 11:08 AM

Get the new one, it's probably as good as Dark Sons of the Prairie

Nepenthe 09-26-2009 11:10 AM

will do

getting the bohren discography from your blog right now btw

Txus 09-26-2009 11:12 AM

Austin, new VOL sample up on the WHW myspace.

New singer is good.

Nostalgia 09-30-2009 03:13 PM

Yeah, it's not bad. I don't like the riffing in The Furthest Shore that much, it sounds like straight up power metal to me. Vessel has some sweet vocals in it though... it sounds like they just expanded on OEF to me, which isn't that bad of an idea I guess.

Tyler 09-30-2009 03:15 PM

The Furthest Shore starts off as power metal, but it definitely becomes more 'traditional' as it goes on. It's 15 minutes long, so it definitely switches gears.

And after listening to OEF, this vocalist is a lot better. The album isn't as 'heavy', but OEF wasn't really 'heavy' anyways.

Nostalgia 09-30-2009 03:35 PM
nd after listening to OEF, this vocalist is a lot better.
Which? Tom Phillips (vocalist on OEF) is one of the best in metal. You needa hear Chapter 1, dude, I'll send it to you.

Tyler 09-30-2009 03:37 PM

I only listened to OEF once but the new guy is seemed to be a much better vocalist. Way more control and power, but again, only listened to OEF once.

Nostalgia 09-30-2009 03:43 PM

Yeah, he probably does have more control - I don't think Tom was trained formally and he's said many times he doesn't even like his voice. I'll look for Chapter 1 online, but sometimes it's hard to find so I'll upload it if not.

Tyler 09-30-2009 03:44 PM

They're different vocalists, though. New guy seems to be a little more over the top, which kinda works with the music though.

Nostalgia 09-30-2009 04:51 PM
They're different vocalists, though
... I know.

Tyler 09-30-2009 04:52 PM

I meant stylistically. Obviously you know they arent the same person.

Nostalgia 09-30-2009 05:26 PM

haha ok

tom was a little over the top in some earlier material

sorry it's in two links, it's the only way I can find it. It's a big file because the first song, Thus With a Kiss I Die, is 16 minutes long and the rest of the songs are above 7 minutes. This is my favorite metal album by far... it really shows the versatility of Tom's vocals.

but yeah if you don't want this on here just delete it or sumthin

rasputin 10-01-2009 07:10 AM

cocaine the rebel mod

pate 10-01-2009 07:54 AM

Austin's favorite metal album is a compilation. What does that say about him?

rasputin 10-01-2009 07:55 AM

that his personality is a compilation

pate 10-01-2009 09:08 AM

Indeed.

Nostalgia 10-01-2009 11:59 AM

haha i've always wondered if i could consider a compilation my favorite album

every good song they've ever written was put onto that album. its just like a combination of the best doom ever

Nepenthe 10-01-2009 02:36 PM

been listening to alot of, i guess what they call psyche doom. stuff like jex thoth, the devils blood, rose kemp, black math horseman. listening to devils' blood's come, reap right now. ****ing awesome album.

anyone else into this stuff? and maybe know of some other similar groups?

Bleekill 10-01-2009 05:53 PM

Yeah try some Blood Ceremony. I like jex thoth and Black Math Horseman a lot.

Nepenthe 10-01-2009 07:58 PM

ill look into it

you should check out the devil's blood and rose kemp. i like them better than jex thoth, probably not as much as horseman though. the devil's blood in particular is excellent.

Bleekill 10-01-2009 08:26 PM

Alright cool, will do. If you haven't listened to Witch either, check them out too.

Txus 10-01-2009 08:28 PM

Witch ftw

Kyle 10-02-2009 09:10 AM

Cool, this thread is still going. Haven't been in R&M for years.

I like Witch.
