The first 2 could have been a little better, but they're still very listenable, obviously.
Well since you were talking about the raw and unpolished feel, I guess it worked for those first few albums.

Kaiwaz 03-02-2006 08:45 PM
Production's not that bad on the Hearse... It's pretty raw, but it's definatly clear.
Indeed. I think it gave it a special standard, it fit well with the music recorded.

ok lateralus 03-02-2006 08:50 PM
Isn't your favorite Opeth album Morningrise? If so, you're the only person I know who thinks that. It used to be my least favorite album, but now I'm back into it and I think that "Black Rose Immortal" and "The Bid You Farewell" are simply great tracks.

Also on the subject of Morningrise, didn't Mikael say that he hated "The Night and the Silent Water"? If so, why? It's a fairly decent track.
Yeah, Morningrise is def. my favorite Opeth album. I think a lot of people on this forum say the same, but then again there are much more Still Life and BWP lovers out there

Thor 03-02-2006 08:51 PM

I would have to say that Blackwater Park is the fan favorite out there, and with good reason. :thumb:

I once valued Morningrise as my favorite, but I think My Arms, Your Hearse is my new favorite Opeth album at the moment. Memories from that album the past couple of springs are getting to me. :)

Definitely, I love the drum sound on that album... Its so great at the beginning of April Ethereal when they come in, it has a very brutal kind of sound they never captured again really

Yeah no doubt! I remember when I first bought MAYH, I listened to it all the way through and said to myself ''what the hell is this?'' But it grew on me hard, something Opeth is good at doing to me

Me to, and same for me. :)

Kaiwaz 03-02-2006 09:09 PM

Now that you mention Ghost Reveries, I have been listening to it a lot lately...:)

I feel that for Orchid. It's an odd sentimental attachment.

Kaiwaz 03-02-2006 09:20 PM

haha yeah man, I know exactly what you mean. :thumb:

I'm seeing Opeth tomorrow!! Awesome!!

Sweet dude, taking the Mrs?

Moses 03-02-2006 10:15 PM

No, taking a friend of mine that I recently got into Opeth. I think he likes them more than me now. I still might be taking the Mrs. to the Taste of Chaos Tour for Deftones, Dredg, and Pelican if she gets back from her new work place* soon enough.

*Six Flags, she gets to be Tweety.

TojesDolan 03-02-2006 10:42 PM

I've stopped listening a lot of Opeth lately and focusin on other music... idon't want to turn into a weird fanboy or something like that,

On a related note, does anyone one the chords/stuff at the beginning of "harvest"? I hear a chord or something pretty similar to E major, but it's... not E major. And I don't have a lot of time to figure out because I'm lazy.

Moses 03-02-2006 11:12 PM

It's A minor I think. Though it might be in D minor and just start on the Dominant.

I go on Opeth binges but I've never been a fanboy really.

Shadows 03-02-2006 11:14 PM

I plan to learn and record Ending Credits tonight. It will be all acoustic and without drums or bass, but I think it will be an ambitious goal to get it down in one night, even if it is incredibly easy.

Moses 03-03-2006 12:33 AM

The Twilight is My Robe is my favorite song on Orchid and is actually the first point where I start to dig the album alot.... The names on this album and Morningrise are so powerful.

It's just an Em strumming all the strings, and then you add in F# on the low E (2nd fret), then its just these two as well

D 4 5
A 5 7

Dunno what those kinds of chords are called.

That would be cool to hear, post it on this thread whenever you get a chance.

Is anyone in a band that has dared to cover an Opeth song?

RouteOne 03-03-2006 07:59 AM
So being bad is good? I just don't understand what you're getting out of this.
Wooahhhhh woah woah. Are you saying that their earlier albums were bad?

Em7sus2

But I'm a n00b at naming chords, so that could be wrong...
I'm seeing Opeth tomorrow!! Awesome!!
Mmm, so am I (I think you may have been at the Rave a few of the times I have, actually). You might spot me, I'll be the long-haired kid with the Meshuggah "I" shirt on, closely followed by drunk/high people I really don't want to bring with. I'm still trying to convince other people to go.

I'm psyched, can't wait for a great concert, though I'm not in the best condition so I may opt to move to the balcony right above the stage. The setlists I've seen for Opeth and DT are awesome.

eighty d 03-03-2006 12:11 PM

Opeth tonight for me too. I can't wait.

Yes they are. I like playing The Twilight Is My Robe on guitar, it's a great song to just jam out. \m/ -_- \m/

Stormrider 03-03-2006 06:06 PM

I've wanted to learn that song for a long time now. Except there are no powertabs for it.

I have to wait to get guitarpro...

Darkness 03-03-2006 06:07 PM

^ Just download the demo of it, and use it forever, like me. :)

Stormrider 03-03-2006 06:09 PM

My freind will give me the real version on cd with the code and all...no idea how he got it though.

TojesDolan 03-03-2006 06:22 PM

The internet is quiet vast in a filesharing context.

yep. :D

On a related note, I was thinkingabout painting the cover from Morningrise for my art class, but the shadows and overall drawing were going to be a bitch to draw. Plus my teacher thinks it's too gothic.

I'll have to go with Dali. The artist, not his art.

Kaiwaz 03-03-2006 11:17 PM

If they play Karma at the concert tomorrow, I'm gonna snap. I so wanna mosh to the outro.

Darkness 03-03-2006 11:28 PM

I'm still hoping for a surprise BWP and Face Of Melinda... not looking good though. :upset:

Kaiwaz 03-03-2006 11:29 PM

I'd like to see them play Blackwater Park and maybe even Face of Melinda, but I'd love to see them play Karma live. That song is so lethal...

Darkness 03-03-2006 11:44 PM
I'd like to see them play Blackwater Park and maybe even Face of Melinda, but I'd love to see them play Karma live. That song is so lethal...
You want lethal?! They should play Wreath!

Kaiwaz 03-04-2006 12:20 AM

 yeah I love Wreath, but I've already seen them play that, and yes it kicked major ass! I would love to hear Karma live, I want to see that so bad.

Crysiss 03-04-2006 12:43 AM

Damn Vehicle troubles....I WANTED TO GO SO BAD!!! I hope my buddy doesnt go to it so he doesnt brag to me. i know he would.
