He put on some face-weight, think you can touch it up to make it more current?

The Brad 11-14-2009 02:52 PM

Haha!
Just redo it and make it curvilinear rather than rectilinear

Well, they cut our set pretty short, but it was a fun show regardless. Got a lot of good responses and a couple show offers in another state. Also shmoozed a bit with some other bands and will definitely be booking shows with a couple of them. Swizzle!

the day brad told me he gave up on art was the day I realized that I would never fly, and that there was no santa claus.

what if i told you that all of that was actually true?

BenJammin 11-16-2009 07:09 AM

Gig went quite well last night.

funkyhoney 11-16-2009 08:33 AM

Gigs that go off without a hitch are so rare.

BenJammin 11-16-2009 08:37 AM

I didn't say there weren't hitches.

I just said it went well. :p

As I said to someone earlier:
They told us we were going to play for a half hour, and then they were going to announce supper, we'd eat, the comedian would come on, and then we'd go back on and finish out the night. Half hour turned into an hour, and food got served without us being informed (we didn't get to order until almost everyone had eaten, and we only got one choice, because everything was out; also: missed the appetizer, and barely got dessert). So finished our first set with only 2 songs left.
We ended up taking those 2 songs, adding in a bunch of songs we'd never played as a band (the guitarist knew them, would tell me the key, and the drummer the tempo), and some jams. No one knew the difference. It all sounded like it was supposed to be part of the set.

funkyhoney 11-16-2009 09:20 AM

When a venue starts telling you what is going on then you know there's a problem. You're providing a service, it's there responsibility to make it as smooth as possible. Not giving you food ordering or whatever in advance is pretty puss.

gaslight 11-16-2009 09:26 AM

Around here, having a venue give you a feed as part of your pay is rare enough.

BenJammin 11-16-2009 09:38 AM

Well, it was a charity gig, so we weren't being paid cash, but certainly not working for free. We got a meal, 2 beer, and a $25 gift card to a chain of restaurants. Also a lot of exposure, because there was the city's marketing director, the city council, the mayor, and a lot of other self-important bigwigs there, as well.

funkyhoney 11-16-2009 09:46 AM

Majority of places (at least in my town) down here will automatically charge you x amount, which is hopefully offset by what's taken at the door. They make their money from amount x and drink sales. Getting food is rare, getting free drinks is usually a given providing you move enough tickets.

FunkMetalBass 11-16-2009 11:52 AM

Our show this weekend went really well. I nailed the harmonies in one song, but I'm not all that impressed with my live vocal work in our other one "Ragnarok."

In any case, videos from two different shows are up on our MySpace and some critique (outside of camera work and sound quality) would be appreciated.

Songs are "Void" and "Ragnarok", respectively (beware of spaces in links)

If you're not keeping up with the 13 Crosses thread, please do so.

Efrim 11-16-2009 03:04 PM

Christ, this trolling is too easy. I'm off to work on my paper again. Hopefully 13 crosses tries to discredit my production degree some more.

fatbandit 11-16-2009 03:11 PM

I actually had a lot of things to do tonight, and that thread has prevented any of them happening.

BenJammin 11-16-2009 03:12 PM

It's given me much needed entertainment.

this, but i dont mind yet, if he stays on forever i might have to ask him to leave for a bit so i can get some work done

fatbandit 11-16-2009 03:18 PM

I'm thinking of handing in my notice at work. I'm pretty fed up of it.

BenJammin 11-16-2009 03:18 PM

Yeah? Got anything else lined up, or just wanna chill with the unemployed for a while?

Epidemechanical 11-16-2009 03:19 PM

I like my job. :)

fatbandit 11-16-2009 03:21 PM

I used to like it, but I've grown to hate it and the people I work with, hah. I really don't fit in there.

I always told myself I'd quit when I got something else lined up, but it's always too easy to just not look for something else because I'm safely employed.

So I'm kinda tempted to just quit and then that forces me to do something about it. Everyone's saying I'm an idiot because there's no jobs around in this current economic climate. But I don't believe that. People are just too lazy/picky.

Left Shoe 11-16-2009 03:27 PM

stay with the job until you have another one lined up

fatbandit 11-16-2009 03:39 PM

yeah, that'd be the sensible thing to do.

Left Shoe 11-16-2009 03:42 PM

you sound reluctant to do a sensible thing haha

fatbandit 11-16-2009 03:44 PM

a little!

i fancy saving up a bit of money from wages, then just quitting and living well within my means from it while i find something else.

Convectuoso 11-16-2009 06:31 PM

It's hard man. You have to be either really hooked up, really good at what you do and be in demand and/or be really ****ing lucky.

But not having a job and being comfortable a: doesn't last long, and B: you get waaaaay to comfortable and will hate work very much when you have to do it.

IME anyways. Maybe I'm just lazy.

Efrim 11-16-2009 07:26 PM

The print shop I use no longer has an e-mail address.

I wonder if they are still using old school presses.

I don't plan on quitting my job for awhile, even if it gets close to unbearable. Based on the difficulty for students to find decent employment (see "Ben"), I'm going to keep the good thing I've got going.
