That is a crazy stencil.

Flagjacket 04-02-2008 01:19 PM

Yeah that stencil is on a level of stencil the world has never seen

asdf 04-02-2008 03:19 PM

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

Anxious 04-02-2008 03:24 PM

That is insane.

DrGolovaCroxby 04-02-2008 03:34 PM

How long did that take?

asdf 04-02-2008 03:48 PM

I've been working on it on and off for a week or two? I started it, stopped, and recently I've been working on it a bit every day.

So far it's definitely been several hours.

Win A Rabbit 04-02-2008 09:14 PM

seriously, i would never attempt something like that. i would give up after like an hour once i realized i was nowhere near to being done.

props

DrGolovaCroxby 04-03-2008 07:27 AM

Well it's most awesome. Take a picture when you use it on something.
Can someone recommend me a decent name for my band? Our influences are: 4ft Fingers, Consumed, Rancid, The Offspring, NOFX etc. (I started this as a thread a few days ago but it got closed cos it was dumb!) Thanks
LESBIAN AFTERMATH!!!

DrGolovaCroxby 04-03-2008 02:33 PM

If you can't name your own band, don't have a band at all.

This is the DIY thread, not the get someone else to do it for you thread.

Hahahahahhahaha

How the stencil looks two days later.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/WebCam_20080404_0049.jpg

I wont keep posting progress but I was showing other people and since it's already uploaded, I thought I would share because it looks better.

Liebensaft 04-04-2008 11:38 AM

That's pretty incredible. You are the (wo)man.

DemonicRubberDucky 04-06-2008 08:04 AM

This'll become a shirt once i grab some spraypaint.

That's tight. DRI are sick as hell. You should make a second stecil to fill in the inside of the "D" and such.

DemonicRubberDucky 04-06-2008 08:29 AM

Yeah, i have the leftover scraps in a ziploc. :)

Hm... would spraypaint work, or is there some other medium that works better with shirts? I'm planning to do it on a black shirt.

On fast songs, Felix makes me go like, "whaaaat?!... how?!..."

asdf 04-06-2008 10:35 AM

I've never seen spraypaint done on a black shirt, but I bet someone here knows if it works.

I use fabric paint. Not spray fabric paint, though, that stuff doesn't work at all.

Danger Bird 04-06-2008 02:53 PM

Spray paint won't work on a black shirt. Doesn't show up.

Bologna. My old band made tons of shirts with white spray paint on black shirts.

I've used white spray paint on a black shirt, and it mostly looks like siolver. If you did a few coats, letting the paint dry between each, it might work. You'd be better off using acrylic paint. It's bright and will NEVER come off. Even if you try.

TBrown87 04-07-2008 04:49 AM

yes it will. It comes off pretty easily for me.

Really? What did you use?
I got it on my favorite pair of pants when I was in seventh grade and tried scraping it and washing it and soaking it and various other techniques that seeme like they'd work. I eventually used paint thinner and destroyed my pants, but that was after a year or so of trying to get it out.

Anxious 04-07-2008 03:20 PM

Ok Rory, I sent off my shirt.

asdf 04-07-2008 04:24 PM

Excellent.

I finished my tree and did a few test sprays just for fun, but I have no pictures. It's sweet, I promise.

asdf 04-08-2008 09:15 PM

Didn't get a picture before it was used for a test spray. Also don't have a picture of the test spray.

Soon I will buy a canvas and make something neat-o.

That's among the better stencils I've seen. Probably one of the best in this thread. How long were you cuttung that thing? And how does carpal tunnel feel? haha

asdf 04-08-2008 09:27 PM

Thanks. It definitely added up to hours, but I did like 90% of it while at work, where I would only otherwise be on MX or maybe doing homework.

I need to think of other intricate stencils because people have liked this one so much. And it was a lot of work but it was really relaxing and fun too.

Multiple coats of spray paint gets really stiff. If you're going to use a acrylic thin it out a little bit first.

I saw this guy who did insane multi-layer stencils of buildings. I'll try and find it for you.
