It's a great song? Sure it's a bit of a "psychodelic experience" and the percussion is great... but as a full-length song? I wouldnt call it "great."

But their No Quarter cover is one of my favorite songs by Tool.
No quarter can get very boring after a while I love you lied so much it and pu**** live is great aswell and how can we forget about part of me? or third eye I fucking love that extra riff that they throw in that song.

Dried Muffin Remnants 06-06-2005 05:48 PM

Oh, I forgot about Part of Me... my bad.

Cue somebody saying that he/she thinks Message To Harry Manback is Tool's best song because it sets some sort of atmosphere for the rest of the album...

...**** pretentious people

Rothmans 06-06-2005 05:56 PM

Haha I hate L.A.M.C it is just annoying there is nothing great about it just maynards dick but message to harry manback I is well better than the II one.

Magicaltroll 06-06-2005 06:21 PM

NP-You Lied

God I love this song. Are other Peach songs like this?

Punctuation is your friend.

By the way, I mostly enjoy Merkaba due to Danny's drumming...

Darkness 06-06-2005 06:58 PM

I was really feeling the whole Tool fast thing this weekend... was really hard to resist the Grudge... :(

Matter 06-06-2005 10:04 PM
Those recordings were pretty good, But the Lateralus one's intro seemed slightly off, but other than that it was pretty good :thumb:

And I liked the Stinkfist cover, but I do agree with what seemed to be the general consensus which was, the singer wasn't putting enough effort, or emotion into the chorus' particularily.
(rounder) its my personal opinion here, but most people who post vocals here do one thing wrong. they "talksing". They try to sing the way they do when theyre just listening to the cd on headphones. In order to sing properly you need to push from your gut like your puking. when screaming you need to do it like your yelling at someone whos being a dick, just screaming your head off. After some practice you can control it, but your not singing right if your at the same volume that you talk. singing properly sounds really loud.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-06-2005 10:24 PM

Ben, I already altered the speed of it. :p

I play on tempo. It's my computer. :p

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-06-2005 10:40 PM

How's Lateralus coming along for ya Faith?

Futuro 06-06-2005 10:46 PM

im having a little problem keeping the verse's perfect with the track everything else aligns real nicely and the little drum solo is still sketchy i should have worked it by the 9th or 10th PERFECTLY. its wier, when i played this with a tool cover band i never noticed i went a little out of rythm on the verse.(im talking milliseconds so the tom hits sound like flams when the real track and my version are lined up.)

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-06-2005 10:50 PM

Like I said, there is no need to rush. We know we both want it to be golden. :D

Anyways, after that, I think it would be cool to do just the first part of Ticks and Leeches. (The part I uploaded) I know it would be a lot to handle, but Moses is willing, and I'm sure The JoZ wouldn't mind swapping out his A-tuned bass strings for his standards. :p

Theodagoth 06-07-2005 12:35 AM

well if anybody reads this I'm going to give you a nice good laugh. I don't remember where i saw this, but this is how some moron actually interpreted the song 'Stinkfist'. He said it is about anal fisting. I couldn't help but laugh, i think i replied to him by saying thanks captain obvious. Sometimes I wonder about some people. Tool is supposed to make you think, this guy just must have just barely enough brain capacity to breathe. Oh and in response to the creator of this thread, when refering to Opiate. I don't think MJK would ever look down on Christ. MJK is an extremely intelligent man. I don't know too many Americans who know who Krishna is. He would never belittle someone who was selfless. Don't get me wrong I'm not Christian, i hate the church, but Christ he was a man as great as Buddha, in my view so he should be acknowledged as a good soul.

Futuro 06-07-2005 12:58 AM

anal fisting  what will people think of next.

i dont understand what mer de norms is about, who is judith, thomas, rose, medgela?

kurrpt 06-07-2005 08:29 AM

they are some rivers in some country, hence "mer de noms"
judith was a in person in biblical times

Adam Jones is GOD 06-07-2005 08:32 AM
i dont understand what mer de norms is about, who is judith, thomas, rose, medgela?
Mer De Noms = Sea Of Names. They named it that after noticing so many of their songs had names as their title.

Judith is the name of MJK late mother, and because he found the song so good, he named it in her honour, and a lot of the lyrics relate to his and her faith being tested by her illness

As for the others, im not too sure.

Rothmans 06-07-2005 08:46 AM
I think Magdalena is a (presumably intentional) misspelling of Magdalene. Mary Magdalene was a woman who was part of Jesus's entourage, and has always been rumoured to have had some sort of sexual relationship with Jesus, in spite of there being no evidence to support this. The lyrics possibly refer to Jesus's alleged desire for her.

Thomas is possibly a reference to Doubting Thomas in the Bible (one of the 12 disciples of Jesus). I think the lyrics possibly mean that Thomas is asking for forgiveness from Jesus after it has been shown that he was incorrect to doubt him, and Jesus has indeed been resurrected. Again, the theme of faith is very important.

Rose I don't really have any idea about. There aren't any Biblical characters by that name which I'm aware of, and I don't really know anything about the song itself...
Rose is about a poet called William rose and maynard hinted towards it in the song saying will I I am rose or will I am rose and I will look for the poem now in the second if you google it you will find it.

clearvision 06-07-2005 08:52 AM

Magdalena is a play on Mary Magdalene IMO

About a lover maynard had in secret, he refers to the woman as 'his magdalena' '
I'd sell. My soul. My self-esteem a dollar at a time. One cahnce, One kiss, One taste of you my magdalene' seems to suggest it's secretive/not legitimate. And he wants more...

...which im guessing is the same position jesus would been in, he couldn't abandon all the mircales and spending time with his disciples for her, so wanted one chance one taste etc. Also the way the song ends is kind of a cut off point, he wan't more but he can't have it, the song ends and the oppurtunity is taken away. Jesus life ending?

^Darn thatw as ridiculous, i kinda got carried away i thinks...

EDIT : OMG look who caught the moses disease :(

Darkness 06-07-2005 06:59 PM

I'll save you clearvision.

Dried Muffin Remnants 06-07-2005 07:07 PM

Wow... very dead. Glad to see that people are talking about Mer De Noms for once. I've actually been listening to that lately. It's probably a little better than 13th Step IMO, but both are great.

Darkness 06-07-2005 07:09 PM

I haven't heard the cd... I want to get it but theres a few other cds I want first.

I've heard good things though.

XyleM 06-07-2005 07:10 PM

I used to think Mer De Noms was better but then I just got into all the atmospheric songs on 13th step, and I think I like that album better now.

Hows the development of these covers going?

Rothmans 06-07-2005 07:12 PM

I still think mer de noms is a lot better than 13th step by far I use to prefer 13t step for a long while but nowadays its mer de noms.

Dried Muffin Remnants 06-07-2005 07:14 PM
I used to think Mer De Noms was better but then I just got into all the atmospheric songs on 13th step, and I think I like that album better now.
Yeah, that's fair. It's like the argument for the Radiohead albums: Kid A and OK Computer. OK Computer(Mer De Noms) is such a consistently great rock album (while both have a lot of ambience) but Kid A(13th Step) is more atmospheric and experimental. Although, I do like Radiohead more than A Perfect Circle, A Perfect Circle still was much better than expected - being that it was a side-project of Maynard's.

Futuro 06-08-2005 01:50 AM

fixed my lateralus verses sounds really nice now :thumb:

Vandle 06-08-2005 02:25 AM

First i can understand Maynards choice to consistently try to pull himself out of the 'lime light' , All you people seem to think Maynard is the only thing to both these bands especially APC. As far as i know Maynard didnt even right APC's Mer De Roms Lyrics. I think most if not all were writting by Billy ( i think thats his name) in like the early 90's. Maybe maynard changed a few words here and there to better suit the song but probably not very much.

Second, Im pretty sure this is the "Offical Tool" thread not the Official A Perfect Circle thread.

Third. All the songs on APC's Albums or Tools albums can mean anything you want them to mean, it doesnt have to mean to you what it means to Maynard or whoever else, Thats why Music = Art, Interpret how you want.

Fourth - Hurry up and get these **** cover songs done i want to listen to them :D

Spiritofmosa 06-08-2005 03:33 AM

noe what i think? if they added more distortion to 13th steps it would definately be better then Mer de norms.. i find mer de norms a more religious album compared to 13th steps.. as for emotive, passive is one of my fav apc songs..
