I might go, I'm not sure yet. It's a far drive, but I might be able to convince a friend.

publicastration 12-14-2007 05:55 PM

How far is it?

Unfortunately I don't believe I know anyone in the area who can drive.

Oh yes and when is it?

i am the robots 12-14-2007 06:04 PM

May 23.

It's about three hours away.

I almost bought a hard copy of Winds Of Creation CD/DVD today for $11.88.

i am the robots 12-14-2007 06:36 PM

Thank you for your wonderful contribution!

three hours for a festival=completely 100% worth it

imayormaynotbeatherobots 12-14-2007 07:06 PM

Not when you're spoiled enough to have festivals in town. :/
I'd like to see Devourment live to see if he can pull of all those vocals. Other than that I'd only care about seeing the bolded ones.

Oh, and Severed Savior. They're ****ing great.
"Circle pit commando mother fuckers"

I'm not gonna lie, I love Devourment.

masscows 12-14-2007 08:04 PM

I don't listen to them enough to really know if I like them or not. Sometimes when I play something by them I get really annoyed and turn it off immediately, and other times I can't overcome the urge to headbang. I can't really take them seriously though.

imayormaynotbeatherobots 12-14-2007 08:15 PM

I don't take them seriously either, but their better material is fun, some of my friends are really into them.

Valhall 12-14-2007 08:41 PM

Do people really think death metal at 128 kbps mp3s sounds good? My god, I'm listening to this Impending Doom album I dl'd, and the dude ****ing squashed it horribly. It's almost unlistenable.

masscows 12-14-2007 08:47 PM

If an mp3 sounds like **** I delete it and find another one. Which mp3's have the best sound quality?

Niflheim II 12-14-2007 08:49 PM

stfyu bra you fuycking bitrate jew, ,my 56kb rip of UTSOH is elite.

That's what I'm doing.

320 kbps is the highest mp3 can go, which still isn't the best, but usually 192 and higher is tolerable. 128 is ridiculous though, especially for metal.

Niflheim II 12-14-2007 08:55 PM

stfu u ****in rbit rate jew

lol bitrate having anything to do with sound quality BY GENRE.
lol bitrate having anything to do with sound quality BY GENRE.
well metal isnt exactly crystal clear when compared to pop and country producing so it tends to show itself more in lower bitrates

LifeInABox 12-14-2007 09:23 PM

That's not true. Stop talking out of your ***.

AA-12 12-14-2007 09:25 PM

Anything under 192kbs is total **** and I generally won't listen to it. This is why 99% percent of my music and 100% of my ripped music is 192.

Valhall 12-14-2007 09:25 PM

Anybody heard Ceremonial Oath's cover of "Hallowed be Thy Name"? It's decent, nothing special...just never heard of it until just now. The band itself is pretty good...I guess it was the first band of members of In Flames and Dark Tranquility...

I got ahold of a 224 version of Impending Doom: Nailed. Dead. Risen.; it's worlds better than the 128....

Tojes: Rap is much more tolerable at lower bitrates than death metal, I can assure you. The style of music and production makes a big difference as to how crappy it's going to sound compressed.

masterchaos 12-14-2007 09:26 PM

??

You have more going on instrument, rhythmic, tempo, and sound (distortion) wise so its a lot harder to capture the clarity of everything vs. a rap album with computer engineered beats and someone talking into a mic.

you're an idiot.

What? Are you kidding? Hip Hop/Rap needs a much better bitrate than metal.

EDIT: LOL RAPE

Yeah, that's why production needs to be clearer to incorperate all of those elements.

Idiot

I like how the local retard is calling people idiots because he's wrong

:downs:

masterchaos 12-14-2007 09:42 PM

I dont see how one could argue the fact that at higher tempos and higher levels of drumming and intrument/vocal distortion, the amount of clarity is already reduced no matter how good a producer or his equipment is...Again, when compared with slow to mid-paced tempo songs.

AA-12 12-14-2007 09:44 PM

So why dont you enlighten me since you have yet to do so.

I forgot you're an expert when it comes to this. Go ahead, the floor is yours.

AA-12 12-14-2007 09:56 PM

Higher bitrate = You hear more of the music and the sound is produced in a much fuller way. It's pretty much common sense. If you decide to not be dumb forever read through this a bit:
Higher bitrate = You hear more of the music and the sound is produced in a much fuller way. It's pretty much common sense.
Exactly. But what he's trying to say is since there is so much more audio information, death metal tends to sound worse when compressed then something like rap, which has less audio information that can be removed during lossy compression.

You two need to quit being dicks to each other. There's a way to discuss things intelligently.

masterchaos 12-14-2007 10:00 PM

Im talking about the initial recording and then being compressed into a lower bitrate...wow.

to ghoul

Im glad we're on the same page Val

Valhall 12-14-2007 10:03 PM

Be careful how you throw around the term bitrate, especially when talking about the initial recording. Bit Rate (or Bit Depth) is a completely different thing in digital recording.

Just FYI.

The audio information doesn't real mean anything. It's the actual song. Most hip hop needs a very good quality and bit rate to be good.

I'm just a dick because he never has anything of quality to say.

Any kind of music does. But I'm not going to fight that battle; I've already been flamed for that one here.

I'm just saying that in the rap and death metal I have listened to, both squashed to hell, the death metal takes the brunt of it. That's just my experience, and I attributed it to those characteristics. But realistically, no music needs to be compressed that much (or at all; I'd rather ban mp3s altogether). MP3 was originally designed for Film audio, to be able to fit on the film with the visual.

However, I'm going to get out of this now, because like I said, here I have no ally in the music quality battle. (Besides you, to a certain extent.)

publicastration 12-14-2007 10:10 PM

I'm listening to Winds Of Creation right now in 128 kbs.

It sounds just fine. Granted I prefer 192, but not all 128 rips sound bad.

You may have had a heavily transcoded version BRA.
