I know. I've seen it.
But don't worry. You don't kill threads. It's all about timing.
Jeeze, then I have really bad timing. Oh well.

Moseswasbanned 06-05-2005 09:38 PM

I don't believe it.

The thread goes fine, I post, and it dies.

Darkness 06-05-2005 09:39 PM

I made a note not to say anything there... just for effect.

Moseswasbanned 06-05-2005 09:39 PM
So wait, there are two Tool "squads" going?
I'm replying because it was never answered.
I made a note not to say anything there... just for effect.
Thanks.

Moseswasbanned 06-05-2005 09:41 PM

Any way I'm out all, so start talking.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-05-2005 09:49 PM

No, Rounder and Matter wanna do their own things, so I guess in essence, there are 2 squads going, but hey, if they want to, that's cool. On second thought, why don't you guys do Eulogy. Then Chris could just put his geetar on it, and Moses, you could sing on it. Sweet deal.

Never mind, I just saw your post. :p

Perhaps someone else could do it...:shrugs:

Anyways, I rerecorded Ticks right now. I'll upload it to my soundclick. It's a pretty good recording, and it syncs with the track. (with a bit of tinkering, due to my sucky computer) Perhaps we could do a sample cover of it.

After Lateralus, that is. Faith, when do you think you're gonna do it?

Bump'd so more people will see it.

Ticks is the top one. It turned out way better than I thought it would. It's still not a perfect recording, but it's close to enough to upload.

And for Ben-I listened to it a couple times before uploading it.

Futuro 06-05-2005 10:58 PM

your link isnt brining us to the right place.....i could probably have it PERFECT by the 10th that will give me a few days to NAIL this epic song. if i can get it perfect to the cd earlier i will post it earlier but 4 days seems about the right time to really get this song right.

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/writePage.cfm?myType=_music&bandid=332764&bandnamesave=drjakedestructo

Whoops. Try that.

Thanks for the date. If you don't get it by then, don't rush yourself. I'd rather have something high quality than on time. :p

Lateralias 06-05-2005 11:14 PM

You guys are going to attempt Lateralus!? Way to be brave :p
By the way I was listening to this song the other day and I always feel a great uplifting strength at the outro when Maynard's voice gets bolder, "With my feet upon the ground..". I absolutely love Tool makes that part so agressive but uplifting at the same time.

Wow I'm probably the first one in awhile to talk a bit off subject of this cover competition (which I sadly can't help with :( )

BlindWriting 06-05-2005 11:14 PM

Hey, what if we covered APC's "When The Levee Breaks" from eMOTIVe.
We'd be doing a cover of a cover of a cover...!

Hey for some reason I liked that cover... probably one of the few on the CD I listen to every once in awhile

Same.

I was joking about doing it, but my point stands.

Futuro 06-05-2005 11:21 PM

they ruined that song.....thats the end of that

realy nice distortion sound you got there Jake.what pedal are you using?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-05-2005 11:22 PM

Wierd. I saw the Zep thread right, and I thought it my head "Hmm we could cover Tool's rendition of No Quarter for the cover competition." :p

Lateralias, I get the same feeling. At that point in the song, I'm basically on top of the world.

Digitech RP300A. It's got a Mesa Dual Rectifier amp model built right into it, so that's about as close as you're going to get without actually having Jones' setup. The one thing that I'd like to change about my recording is the fact that I didn't use any delay, but it's one of the driving forces of his tone.

About When the Levee breaks- It's one of my favorite Zep songs. I've only heard APC's cover of it once or twice, but I don't recall it to be very great or anything.

I'm listening to that right now. God, I love it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-05-2005 11:30 PM

The intro makes me cringe. It's written in such a wierd key. After the minute mark, it's so insanely uphill. I don't listen to this song enough. It's probably because when I listen to Tool, I listen to albums, and I usually don't choose Salival as the album I'm going to listen to.

Futuro 06-06-2005 12:35 AM

i really enjoy listening to salival....not sure why.

Convectuoso 06-06-2005 01:46 AM

Any updates whatsoever on the new album?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times :(

Vandle 06-06-2005 01:59 AM

From www.toolband.com --- Might be good to check this site before posting :)
LISTEN, it’s great that so many fans of Tool’s music are so eager for specifics about the recording process, wanting song titles, track listings, the names and social security numbers of engineers and producers, and even the ability to download samples of the recording sessions! Unfortunately, at this point I’m not at liberty to reveal these things, but if and when the band decides that they want certain details to be made public (such as social security numbers), they will undoubtedly get posted on the band’s official site (where I still manage to sneak a few things in…shhhhhhh). In the meantime, there’s always the rumor mill, and those who make up their own album titles and release dates… and do a pretty good job at that!
You miss out my two favourite pinch harmonics ever!

But great job, thats the kind of sound quality I can work with. Ill try and put it with Tool's version to give you an idea of how well you kept the timing
Hey, how did your audition turn out?

I'm a whore, and I am also bored out of my mind, so here's my rendition of the first solo in Lateralus. I used a Mesa Double Rectifier model, which is built into my effects pedal, along with some delay and some wah. It's not a perfect recording, but hey, close enough.

Lateralus solo
My audition went well, but im not convinced i belong in that project. My main influences are TOoL, APC, zeppelin, LTE, things of that nature and it sounds like their main influences are 3 doors down, wussy kinda BS. Plus the bassists's mom backed into my Mx-3 and scratched it hahahaha.

I would love to compare the mesa dual rectifier patch I have for my GNX4 to ur Rp 300 i think you said. I just got AWESOME patches for a stilleto, Trip Rec, and Triaxis. Im stuck on the soldano right now.

As far as the whole cover thing, no seems to be doing my 2 favorite songs, and i dont want to compete for my guitar track against other. I would love to an APC cover, but i cant see that working out for some reason.

XyleM 06-06-2005 10:10 AM

Those recordings were pretty good, But the Lateralus one's intro seemed slightly off, but other than that it was pretty good :thumb:

And I liked the Stinkfist cover, but I do agree with what seemed to be the general consensus which was, the singer wasn't putting enough effort, or emotion into the chorus' particularily.

Salival is a wonderful album, it is overlooked alot though.

Dried Muffin Remnants 06-06-2005 11:43 AM

Reywas 06-06-2005 12:17 PM
Push!t live, Third Eye live, No Quarter, and You Lied are all great.
You forgot about Merkaba :upset:
It's a great song.. just hard to get into the first few times

Dried Muffin Remnants 06-06-2005 04:18 PM

It's a great song? Sure it's a bit of a "psychodelic experience" and the percussion is great... but as a full-length song? I wouldnt call it "great."

But their No Quarter cover is one of my favorite songs by Tool.
