I think he's a very good guitarist. He's not the most technical player in the world but he's an extremely good writer. And writing a good song is more important than making it hard to play.

Woodstock 09-30-2004 06:01 PM

If you're going to buy a CSNY CD, go for Deja Vu.

Broken Arrow 09-30-2004 06:10 PM
anyone else think neil young has an amazing guitar playing style..hes really considered more of a singer/songwriter but i think he has an amazing style when it comes to guitar.
I coundn't agree with you more. I am nearly done Neil and Me after 2 days

Woodstock 09-30-2004 06:15 PM

I have to admit^, I love Ohio. It was mostly written by Young.

RockAndRoll 09-30-2004 06:19 PM

Ohio is a great song, one of the first by Neil I heard.

Woodstock 09-30-2004 06:20 PM

Gotta love that riff. It was the first I've heard by CSNY.

GEOFFREYBAX30 09-30-2004 07:27 PM

classic rock comeback?, the decline of rap? can good days be heading our way again i think they will be! more and more people are sick and tired of having Mtv jam bull crap down thier throats so yep classics making a comeback
Today I be getting Bridge Over Troubled Water ( because I'm sick of listening to it on the site) and a Bob Dylan and Neil Young cd. Suggestions?
Simon and Garfunkel are awesome. For Bob Dylan, Get Highway 61 revisted, I like that album a lot.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-30-2004 08:03 PM

Anyone there?

ToRidTheDisease 09-30-2004 08:13 PM

me.

wanton 09-30-2004 08:14 PM

Which do think Neil Young was better at, acoustic or electric guitar? I prefer his acoustic songs but his electric songs are nice too. His acoustic playing just seems better to me.

magicbus 09-30-2004 08:30 PM

Wowowowow. Just finished my MSU app and I'm tired as balls.

ColdShotStrat 09-30-2004 08:36 PM

i love everything about classic rock and i hate seeing all these new bands ruining rock. id like to see a good classic rock band come around and save rock. id also like to see a good blues band come around. does anyone know of any out in california?

RockAndRoll 09-30-2004 08:38 PM

I'd rather see something new. There are too many that just redo the same old blues, it's boring.

Led_Revolver 09-30-2004 08:40 PM
i'm wanna see some band come along and revitalize the classic rock style...
You gotta give some credit to velvet revolver, theyre trying, even if its not exactly the classic rock were looking for (a la Zeppelin, Doors, Rush, ect.) but its still better than Good Charlotte. And it still rocks

Better than Good Charlotte? Not saying much.

Led_Revolver 09-30-2004 09:03 PM
Better than Good Charlotte? Not saying much.
Well i'd say slash, duff, matt sorum, dave kushner and scott weiland are WAY better than good charlotte. most of them were rocking while good charlotte was still in diapers.

thickasabrick 09-30-2004 09:07 PM

ya velvet revolver is pretty good...not classic rock good, but compared to most bands these days i'd say they are at the top of the list.

as to the neil young question earlier...i really love his acoustic guitar playing, but his electric seems to be the most definitive. i actually think he played electric the same way someone would play acoustic, its just more overdriven. not a lot of people do that.

BillCosby 09-30-2004 09:10 PM

What a revolutionary statement, you are wise beyond your years.

thickasabrick 09-30-2004 09:17 PM

can i ask how many people are in this thread right now? anyone worth talking to?

Seafroggys 09-30-2004 09:48 PM

Coolest thing I saw on a TV order channel.

One was a robotic cleaner (I really wanted to buy one...okay, off-topic big time).

But I saw an acoustic guitar with a built in pick-up and an EQ on the side, that comes with an amp. This guy was playing through the amp, and it sounded all normal (like micing an acoustic). Then he turned the overdrive button on and it sounded just like your badass distorted guitar, except it wasn't electric!

Of course, this probably can easily be done already, and I'm sure people have tried this.

The Neil Young Electric vs. Acoustic debate reminded me of this.

Btw, listening to Glass Onion by Beatles.

BludgeonySteve 09-30-2004 09:51 PM

Whoever ask if Neil Young is better, acoustic or electric? Obviously his acoustic songs are better. But he displays more skill while playing electric. So i'd say it's even.

thickasabrick 09-30-2004 09:57 PM

seafroggys: was the guy named Esteban or something like that? I've seen that a lot, its fun to watch. I have no clue how he could be selling a guitar, an amp, a case, strings, instructional movie and picks all for like a hundred bucks. Must be the cheapest made crap ever.

(ya I tried distorting my acoustic/electric, all i got was bad feedback)

thickasabrick 09-30-2004 10:20 PM

is anyone around?? i just tried playing a neil young song, but i accidently clicked on a nelly furtado song which was right below it....its called "try". i had never heard it before but its not bad, shes got talent.

edit- ya wrong thread i realize but oh well. i only like to post in this one.

BludgeonySteve 09-30-2004 10:22 PM

Yeah I actually like that song.

One thing to remember. On weeknights us kiddies don't post as much as on weekends. So don't be sitting around for 20 minutes waiting for the next post because it might not happen for a while.

THats why they make acoustic/electric amps.

Paranoidd 10-01-2004 09:00 AM

Anyone who comes in here and complains about how all new rock sucks should get banned. It's a classic rock thread, not a "bash-all-new-rock-because-popular-opinion-currently-swings-that-way" thread

gmoneyguy 10-01-2004 09:01 AM

They do get banned...if they get caught, but usually they are just ignored.
