Noway, I killed it again.

clearvision 06-05-2005 01:25 PM

I'm just gonna put aenema together...

Find someone with drums and vox or just vox and go that way...may have to record vox myself...

Main task at the moment is just to get something done really, we cna see what we're gonna do from there, wether we do a medley or try a different track, this isn't gonna work on first attempt anyways...

That vocalist is nearly very good indeed, well in the verses anyways...needs to be more aggressive in the chorus...

/I really hate crit'ing peoples voices...

The rest of the music was pretty tight, can't really notice anything 'cept lack of bass? and the little interlude part is dodgy with alternating between 14 and 17...

Adam Jones is GOD 06-05-2005 01:33 PM

Im just gonna be honest....I hate those vocals. Sounds like a seriously off key Thom Yorke at times

But im not a vocalist, so ignore my opinion

Now an instrumental point - Everything is tight, except the section around 2:40. That has to be my favourite sction to pla yever as you can jsut piss about with string scrapes, muted notes, harmonics, smashing head against pickups, strangling your bassist, etc. It sounded too empty and weak without a bit of messing about.

Apart from those niggles, everything else was tight, drums sounded good throughout, bass was flawless (if a bit pushed back in the mix).

You didnt ask for a review I know. But your username is too cool not to.

Moseswasbanned 06-05-2005 01:41 PM

I liked it, but I agree with Clearvision that the chorus wasn't agressive enough. But I'm sure it was just you and your friends messing around. Anyway try and do parabol/a guitars for us.

Moseswasbanned 06-05-2005 01:58 PM

Maybe I shouldn't post since I keep killing it.

clearvision 06-05-2005 02:01 PM

Heh, you just leave us with no topic of conversation to carry on discussing...

That's never to be spoken of again.

clearvision 06-05-2005 02:05 PM

OK Sir.
His username is very funny in the context of the recent spam events...
You know I didn't even realize that.

Anyway, so I'm gonna practice singing Lateralus for the next couple days while everything gets put together. Who's doing what now?

Vox lemypeopleho
Guitar Kage?
Bass Joz?
Drums Faith+1

Kage 06-05-2005 02:08 PM

I'll work on getting a recording for Lateralus on guitar, but I think we're just going to let anyone who wants to put up his own sample and we'll take the best of what we have and let Ben do mixing. I know Clear wants to do Lateralus guitars, and I'm sure there are several other people as well.

3074326 06-05-2005 02:10 PM
Does JoZ have a bassline recorded for Eulogy? I'm talking to 307 and he would gladly do the guitar for it. I think it would turn out great. it feels like I'm the only one, though
Yeah mayne, just let me know if anything happens with Eulogy. I usually don't venture into the enormous community threads.

clearvision 06-05-2005 02:11 PM

I was just playing with the song earlier on a break from studying, I may post a version if i get the rythms for the two riffs...

'Cept i play it up a string, and with pinch's

EDIT : Where did the
thing go? and wtf is up with font's on this thing :(

Kage 06-05-2005 02:13 PM

The rhythms on those riffs are very tricky, but for the first riff you posted, if you turn it up and listen carefully, you'll get it.

clearvision 06-05-2005 02:15 PM

The first riff is the easier of the 3, but the time signature messes me i think... i always seem to play the 0 too early, i play along with the powertab so i know which notes i should be hitting when, it's just tricky making me play it that way.

Kage 06-05-2005 02:23 PM

Yeah I know what you mean, that's exactly what I did when I was first learning it. The second riff you posted I sort of just flow with it, I don't think I have it exactly down but it still sounds good and I stay with the song. As for the third one, I'm not exactly sure what part that is.

Reywas 06-05-2005 02:34 PM

It's near the end when Maynard stops singing.I think Adam uses a wah pedal there.

clearvision 06-05-2005 02:42 PM

I play it up a string...

8:37 on the CD

I just took the tab off tooltabs thinking most people would be most familiar with it...in fact the song ends with that riff..

Adam Jones is GOD 06-05-2005 02:46 PM

Adam plays that last riff a lot differently live than on the record.

I use that tab, but instead of playing the Open D, I tend to fret the 15th fret on the top D, and add wah. It sounds better with my set up at least.

And that first riff is still the part I hate the most about Lateralus

Kage 06-05-2005 03:04 PM

That explains it...I've never gotten to the very end of that song.

Me jamming lateralus...

Opinions on the rythm of the riffs? and clean tone? I don't think the distorted tone is too good...

YouGottaBeCrazy 06-05-2005 03:29 PM

The timing seems to off on a lot of it, clearvision. It's not bad, but it's not that great either. I hate to be a critic, it's just the way it sounds. And the distortion is quite "H"-like. Which would have been good if you were playing that song. You just need a cleaner, crisper sounding distortion.

Adam Jones is GOD 06-05-2005 03:30 PM

Yeah, the distorted tone is pretty poor, but im guessing this is jsut you showing us if you're playing it right.

/puts on crits hat.

THe rythm throughout seems correct on all the sections.

First part (opening) - I think you're missing a pull off/hammer on in part of the riff, kinda takes away the flow. The clean tone is brilliant though, that open D can sound terrible usually, but you got it at the right level.

Main Riff part - Good rythm, tone doesnt do it justice though, but it sounds like you get the mutes in correctly

Solo - Played flawlessly, get a good tone on it, and it'll be magic

YouGottaBeCrazy 06-05-2005 03:32 PM

I really wish I had a microphone on this computer, because I'd really like to help you guys out in any way that I possibly can.

Adam Jones is GOD 06-05-2005 03:34 PM

Imagine how I feel! Thats why I fobbed my way into some form of involvement

clearvision 06-05-2005 03:35 PM

Heh, nice

Just need to sort my fucking tone out. :( I may just record it all clean and see what i can do on cool edit with distortion....

I may have missed the pull offs by accident, i only played that part once through when recording them.

I think i hit the pinch's pretty well, but it took me a while...

EDIT : you should brave line in on the soundcard...I now have both my comp mic and my line in working at the right levels, and my soundcard is on-board...

kurrpt 06-05-2005 03:36 PM

i doubt i could download that bitch on dial up, but ima try it anyway

Adam Jones is GOD 06-05-2005 03:36 PM

TO be honest, if you play that solo without the pinch harms, and just add some wah, it does the same trick. Just pull out the odd pinch as a party piece to wow the ladies.

Reywas 06-05-2005 03:37 PM

Clearvision Open D owns.
What equipment are you using?

Adam Jones is GOD 06-05-2005 03:42 PM
i doubt i could download that bitch on dial up, but ima try it anyway
Its only over 1MB. Its a mix of the different parts people struggle with

clearvision 06-05-2005 03:46 PM

Yamaha pacifica 012 ---> Zoom 606 multi-fx ---> line in to on board sound

I'm really not competent with a wah, i may have a fiddle when i get some time...
