I am currently listening to:

Woody Guthrie - Dust Bowl Ballads

Released in 1964, this may be one of the most important albums in American history. Raw, early folk music. A must have if you like Bob Dylan at all, seeing as he was Dylan's biggest influence.

YDload 01-11-2006 07:12 PM

Blood Brothers has some catchy tunes, but the voices are the worst things I've ever heard. And I like Cedric AND Claudio :( I guess I dislike Steven Tyler imitators in favor of Robert Plant and Geddy Lee imitators, respectively.

EDIT: actually, "Peacock Skeleton With Crooked Feathers" is a pretty accurate Mars Volta parody. Good work!

YDload 01-11-2006 07:24 PM

This is about Blood Brothers though.

Wanker 01-11-2006 07:31 PM

2nd'd. It's prog rock, amirite?

Tangy zizzle 01-11-2006 07:32 PM

Yeah Mars Volta should be banned.

Until one of them dies/leaves the band/kills someone or they release a new album.

Glitterati 01-11-2006 07:41 PM

I think Nacho either listens to or has heard of every band that ever existed ever.

Tangy zizzle 01-11-2006 07:43 PM

I highly, highly doubt that.

pixiesfanyo 01-11-2006 07:44 PM
I think Nacho either listens to or has heard of every band that ever existed ever.
I think you enjoy cock in your mouth.

But you don't see me posting about it. You should follow my lead.

(this is a joke)

Robert Johnson

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
Boris - Pink

YES.

el doctor 01-11-2006 09:36 PM

ELP - Brain Salad Surgery

I've had an irresistible craving for Karn Evil 9.

YDload 01-11-2006 09:41 PM

Nacho have you ever heard of Longpigs? I was asking this anyway but now seems appropriate as well.

Tangy zizzle 01-11-2006 09:51 PM

Howabout Ryan Mcphunn & the Ruby Suns?

Loose Furs?

The Mean reds?

YDload 01-11-2006 09:52 PM

Well you might like 'em. Post-punk/college-rock/indie-rock is as good a way as any to describe them, from the 80s so you know it's good ;)

Dude3 01-11-2006 10:25 PM

This indie rock band called Look Mexico.

Here:
http://www.myspace.com/lookmexico

These guys are great. They come to my part of Florida all the time, and they put on an amazing show. The songs are soo mellow and and have some amazing hooks. Oh god, I love this band.

It took me a little while to notice them, but they're just soo good. So, I'm whoring them.

Also, I've really been digging Chiodos, The Blood Brothers, and today I discovered Jeff Buckley.

=)

OrbDragon 01-12-2006 04:38 AM

Dead Moon - Into The Graveyard
Joni Mitchell - Hejira
Killing Joke - Killing Joke (2003)
The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone

I can't believe I'm the only one whoring Joni in these forums. She's one of the most amazing singer songwriters in history. I love her voice too...you can't listen to "Black Crow" without being blown away, seriously.

So far today:

Circle Takes The Square - As The Roots Undo
Neil Young - Harvest

Recently I've been listening to more Bob Dylan than I ever have before. His music always gets to me. It's simple and so much of it sounds similar but his words and tune always hit me.

I commited treason and got a leak of The Greatest. Woo, it's good good stuff. She seems to have gone through some type of personal change but kept that usual sexy vibe.
Recently I've been listening to more Bob Dylan than I ever have before. His music always gets to me. Absolutely wonderful documentary, even if for people that aren't much of a Dylan fan.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 05:11 PM

The Greatest = Cat Power

el doctor, No Direction is brilliant isn't it? I got it for christmas, it's such a great watch.

OrbDragon 01-12-2006 05:31 PM

That's it. I can forget about buying Cat Powers new one...I'm getting it right now!

Meanwhile, being occupied listening to Picaresque should make time go by fast.

OrbDragon 01-12-2006 05:36 PM

Holy guacamole...the title track's already blowing my mind. This may actually be enough for me to buy the whole record.

For the record, I love record purchasing-based-on-one-song gambles.

*goosebumps*

Zappa 01-12-2006 06:27 PM

All this talk of Cat Power has made me put on Moon Pix, and I'm digging it a lot again.

I also enjoyed me some Ellington this evening.

pixiesfanyo 01-12-2006 06:38 PM

I'm digging Ampere. Which is like an emo band, only all of their songs are under two minutes. They're pretty great. I have three of their releases if anyone wants to AIM me for them.

asymm 01-12-2006 06:40 PM

Jono El Grande - Fevergreens
Descriptions aren't easy.
And now for something completely different! The young Norwegian outsider composer leads his 9-piece orchestra through a highly personal and unique collection of instrumentals, with nods to early seventees progressive rock, easy listening, film music and sophisticated pop. A vital and life affirming rollercoaster ride combining intricate arrangements with memorable and melodic hooks.
Dog 01-12-2006 07:28 PM
Chin Up Chin Up - We Should Have Never Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers

I don't know how to pigeonhole this band. Maybe a cross between Minus the Bear, Modest Mouse and the Arcade Fire. It's not as generic-indie as it sounds. Pretty solid 4/5.
They're ok but I got bored with that album pretty quickly.

I've also been inspired to dig some Cat Power due to all the talk about her recently. You Are Free mainly. I think I'll look for the leak of The Greatest since it's getting such good comments.

Zappa 01-12-2006 07:34 PM

Oscar Peterson Trio Plus One

I wrote a review of this. It's Oscar Peterson, perhaps the most skilled jazz pianist of all time, adding Clark Terry's fluegelhorn to his trio sound. It's one of the happiest records you can hear.

br3ad_man 01-12-2006 08:03 PM

I'm sad I missed the 'who is the most indie' competition.

I've been listening to The Woods mainly. My favourite tracks are the catchy pop ones like "Modern Girl" and "Rollercoaster". It's such a great album.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 08:06 PM

Haha, we all know asymm would win hands down.

Yass, yass! the Woods is spectacular and it's only 6 days until I'll get to see most of it played. Bam!

br3ad_man 01-12-2006 08:12 PM

haha, of course he would.

8 days here.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 08:15 PM
The Greatest = Cat Power

el doctor, No Direction is brilliant isn't it? I got it for christmas, it's such a great watch.
I love the part where Joan Baez recalls a conversation where Dylan was saying how all these people are going to debate over his lyrics and have all these theories as to what he means when in the end, he doesn't really even know what he means.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 08:50 PM

Exactly. He's so mysterious about his writing, even though you can tell he's defined what he's written in his mind.

BillCosby 01-12-2006 09:04 PM

I can't stop listening to Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.

Tangy zizzle 01-12-2006 09:14 PM

It's a good album, no shame in it.
