purple_hazer 12-09-2010 02:39 AM

anyone play dungeons and dragons? i just bought the starter pack thing and am curious to how people who have played feel about the game in general

im personally fuckin stoked

AG 12-09-2010 03:01 AM

D&D is pretty awesome when you get a decent group together, and it's even better when you have an awesome, evil as fuck, only wants to kill you, DM.

purple_hazer 12-09-2010 03:11 AM

thats the kind of DM i plan to be, man!

im tryin to get my friends to build characters but theyre all closet nerds or something. all afraid to show their gheynezz

EmbraceRandom 12-09-2010 06:15 AM

Never played D&D, only seen it in a Futurama film. What's the deal?

Also, good day Sir Lod.

Squirrel 12-09-2010 06:21 AM

Hows it going?

i'm mega bored, which is oddcause i've got mass effect 2, final fantasy 13, splinter cell conviction, and red dead redemption all sat next to me waiting to be finished.

2muchket! 12-09-2010 06:26 AM

Got a 360 recently and been leant dozens of games, can't wait to get through them all over the xmas period once my oral assessment is done next wednesday.

Wondering whether or not I should bother getting black ops though, from what I've seen and played CoD does very little for me...

EmbraceRandom 12-09-2010 06:30 AM

It's going good man, yourself?

Man I really wanna play ME 1 and 2, never played them but everyone raves about them. Same with Red Dead, I'm a massive Clint Eastwood fan so it seems perfect for me. Maybe.

But I've just bought Fallout New Vegas for £15 so I'll be whoring out on that over the christmas break.

guitarbaz 12-09-2010 07:22 AM

i do enjoy playing dungeon master occasionally.

Make sure you read plenty of reviews, watch videos, and if possible borrow/rent a game before you buy.

I say that cause imo the CoD games and RDR all suck massively, if i've bought them i'd be at least 80 quid down.

I highly, highly recommend Dead Space.

EmbraceRandom 12-09-2010 07:29 AM

What's wrong with RDR?

And Baz are you referring to Pardew by any chance? 5 and a half years, I'll believe it when i see it...

Squirrel 12-09-2010 07:34 AM

It's dull, inanely slow and generally uninteresting. I was sessioning Dead Space - ultra-scary uber violence, beautiful game, refreshing ideas etc, the popped in RDR and spent half and hour in a desert on a horse, shot a guy with a revolver, then made a tent and went to sleep.

It's probably very good once you get into it but after playing Dead Space, Mass Effect, Just Cause etc it's just a chore.

EmbraceRandom 12-09-2010 07:39 AM

Lol yeah I see where you're coming from. I've never played either game, but I guess it's down to the pacing of each game. Like if you play something that is intense and designed to shit you up, then you go to something where you are the relatively-unchallenged protagonist and the pace is much slower (which is representative of the different era in which the game appears, especially compared to dead space), the difference is gonna be huge.
That may be a completely uneducated yet unnecessarily overcomplicated view on the matter though :p

Squirrel 12-09-2010 07:44 AM

No you're right; the problem is that Dead Space is such an elite game, and easily the best survival horror game ever, that any game afterwards is gonna struggle to match it.

I was playing Mass Effect 2 after and was like "man these kills just aren't the same", "there's not enough tension here", "why cant i stamp on heads?" etc.

edit: i bet Mop responds to this, i think he's that legendary guy of folklore that doesnt like dead space

guitarbaz 12-09-2010 07:48 AM

yup, ashley the clown has surpassed himself this time...

EmbraceRandom 12-09-2010 08:01 AM

I've never played it but it sounds awesome lol. really need to start playing more games, I practically spent the entirety of last year playing Fallout 3, loved it. My kind of game, apocalyptic setting, every man for himself, mercenary kinda shit. E.g. clint eastwood :p

You think there's any chance he'll sell Newc?

guitarbaz 12-09-2010 08:07 AM

I think ashley would sell his mother if the price was right.

Not sure what action is likely to follow this latest act of lunacy but it'll be aimed at damaging profits so he does look at selling up and getting out. kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face but the bloke is just totally clueless and will be the ruin of the club.

I'll take the bait :P

It's not a case of not liking dead space, it was a pretty good game but the plotline is more or less a rip off of 2001 and I didn't find it scary at all. As I think I mentioned last time we discussed this - check out Penumbra or Amnesia: Dark Descent, they're pretty scary.

Mass Effect - that's one of the best games I've played in a very long time. Amazing writing. Needs a time commitment though :P

There's a huge amount of games I've got to work my way throuhg at the moment... Fable, Oblivion, Stanglehold (absolutely shite but gonna finish it), Madworld, Metro 2033, Stalker: Call of Pripyat....

Squirrel 12-09-2010 09:54 AM

I jsut turned off Mass Effect 2 actually, it's really not grabbing me at all.

I'm not sure I get the 2001 comparison tbh, other than a big obelisk shaped object being present in both.

Sup Lod? We all good? Marvellous.

Get the internet at my place on monday so I'll be here annoying/boring you all more regularly.

Squiz: Yeah I know the whole free money thing was a silly pipe dream: I suppose I'm just after a way to make some money in my spare time, preferably online, that I can do in a couple of hours I have spare here and there.

I like how you're all talking about some decent, modern games when this afternoon I had a quick random map on Age of empires 2 :D

The_Mop 12-09-2010 10:06 AM

Heh, I decided to relive my childhood and bought worms world party for a quid from CeX a few days ago :p

Can you do any graphic design, web development, or programming? you can make a lot of money on the side if you do those.

Sad But True 12-09-2010 10:40 AM

Unfortunately no. I'm not after a primary form of employment, just a little cash on the side really.

Zeke: My housemate's gf has the original Worms for PC on floppy disk, box and everything. It takes pride of place on our bookshelf :D

Squirrel 12-09-2010 10:56 AM

That's what i'm saying, you can easily do those on the side and make a lot of extra money.
