DragonForce = Gods of music. I swear they are the best band ever.

ah well...Each to their own

LordDargon 12-13-2004 01:06 PM

Dragonforce are nowhere near the best band. In fact their stuff is so simple and catchy, that's what makes it great, but after a while it's just bland and boring.

Cheater.

I prefer a Floyd or Zep CD to Dragonforce's, but they are definitely up there.

GnR is certainly not the best, how dare you

Invicta_Veritas 12-13-2004 01:07 PM

 had to

eh, just a personal favorite. Not really on topic though, most poeple still don't consider gnr classic rock yet.

Cain 12-13-2004 01:07 PM

The best MXer threads are in the Pit, Dargon. You should find it pretty close to or on the front page.

Hooray for spot #201!!!!!!

And zepfan, you DID make it to the top 100. #57 if I remember. You whore.

I've never heard DragonForce so I'm gonna assume it's sounds like a bunch of noise like the majority of today's metal.

DragonForce = SIMPLE?! HOW!

If I had to make a comparison of Dragonforce, I would say Maiden, which probably isn't the best comparison, but meh. AIM me and I can send you a song or the CD to try it out?

Ohh yeah, I want to know how Dragonforce is simple too? The rhythm maybe, but the solos?

munky_magik 12-13-2004 01:10 PM

dragonforce - teh shizzle.
You should check 'em out, Power metal at it's finest

Meh, power metal is a bit different from most other modern metal genres. They're like the Arnold Schwarzeneggars and fantasy geeks of metal all rolled into one, with some bellowing and loudness for good measure.

That's a gross oversimplification, but I believe you'll find that in at least one band's case(Manowar!) it's pretty accurate.

Invicta_Veritas 12-13-2004 01:11 PM

ok, what exactly is power metal--is it pretty much like mainstream heavy metal or what? (I know stupid question probably)

I they're like Maiden I'd probably like them because Maiden=teh bestest.
DragonForce = SIMPLE?! HOW!
The solos are not, but the riffs are absolutely as simple as it gets. Ultra simple chord progressions, one note quickly picked for a bit before switching to another note, totally predictable choruses... of course, you do have the point of the ultra tech solos.

Nein, nein, mein Herr.

see my post.

Permanent Solution 12-13-2004 01:13 PM

That's what I would say, but I am not the one to make the comparisons, but the melodies in it certainly strike me as Maiden esque :)

ok gotcha. So basically not something I would like.

Cain 12-13-2004 01:15 PM

I have one gripe with the general Maiden-fan party line, though: why exactly does everyone on the planet seem to think Bruce Dickinson is the best singer to ever grace metal music with his presence? I mean, he fits the music perfectly, but very often what other people call "operatic acrobatics" just sounds like vibratoed bellowing to me.

That's just what they look like and have lyrics about.

Power Metal is the counterpart of death/black metal; instead of being heavy, atonal, and morbid, it's melodic and happy. Solos are essential to power metal. That's about it.

Sounds like you're one of the people that hates new killswitch engage, too.

Heheh, it depends, I should think. Actually power-metal takes as many cues from prog as it does from fantasy, and certain bands that would be classified as "power metal" are quite exceptional, such as Nightwish and Last Tribe. But a band as greased-up and consistently-only-dressed-in-loincloths as Manowar is probably not something you would like, yeah.

jpj, which AIM name are you again? (I get you all mixed up :-/)

I like Dickenson because he fits the music so well. He is the best singer if his voice melds the music together perfectly imo.

This Dagonforce isn't bad, any album reccomendations?. I like it because the singer actually sings, and yea I can see the similarities to Maiden.

Thanks Zep :thumb: I'd rep you, but I can't :(

God **** that's a cool solo :thumb:

They only have one out, Sonic Firestorm. Get it.

Right, I like the singing part and though it is more double bass driven than maiden, the melodies are where I see a similarity.

Later on then? :naughty:

The best is when bands mix power influenes with death influences, it comes out as neutral with an either hilariously horrendous sound, or pretty amazing (Bodom, Kalmah, Norther).
