im really not sure myself...because i think of guys like dylan, neil young, simon and garfunkel who took the more folkish route are the most amazing songwriters. but blues is my favourite genre.

my favourite bands are zeppelin and jethro tull..who you can tell have been influenced by both folk and blues.
So, then you're strongly leaning towards folk-rock.

zeppelin isnt very folk, sure there are some folk songs that they did but blues rock is their main style

gmoneyguy 09-29-2004 07:44 PM

They were known to be very diverse, they played folk stuff as much as they played rock.

Ok........I agree

Badmoon 09-29-2004 07:46 PM

You would never say they just play Folk. You could say they only play Rock

thickasabrick 09-29-2004 07:49 PM

ya im not saying they were a folk band, im just saying they have been influenced by folk. even their folk songs arent exactly folk.

so its agreed. no referring to folk and led zeppelin in the same post again.

thickasabrick 09-29-2004 07:52 PM

oooh....now its badmoon vs rock not roll.

both have very amazing bands to back up their opinions, both type with capital letters to make it look nice for us to read.

gmoneyguy 09-29-2004 07:52 PM

SRV is great, but were is Muddy, Buddy, and B.B.?

BludgeonySteve 09-29-2004 07:53 PM

^ This is not a competition. This is all for your guys's information. It's foolish to compare different genres.

Edit: to thick as a brick.

thickasabrick 09-29-2004 07:54 PM

man i put up a gigantic poster of SRV up on the wall my room where i teach guitar lessons....i had to explain to every single student of mine who SRV is. i am very disappointed in 8 to 12 year olds these days.

edit- ya your right Rock Not Roll. both are awesome

Badmoon 09-29-2004 07:55 PM

Well, it's some of my favorite bands vs. his. and there is of course much more Blues Rock Classic Rock bands, so...Vut most my favorite jam bands are Country/Bluegrass/Folk influenced.

thickasabrick 09-29-2004 07:57 PM

i dont even know how to actually play rock on the guitar. it just turns into blues or bluegrass without me noticing.......maybe there isn't such a thing as rock n roll.

. 10 Months ago when I started to play guitar I asked about my teacher's poster. It was of Jimi Hendrix :(.

That one hurt :(

My AP US HIS likes SRV, and played one of his CDs during a test once. Imagine the kid's responses :upset:

gmoneyguy 09-29-2004 07:58 PM

Your influences always come out through your guitar work. I know it happens to me.

In my opinion, Bluegrass can not be farther away from Blues.

I have spent so long to get the perfect Bluegrass song. I can get it on my guitar, but banjo is a differenr story.

thickasabrick 09-29-2004 07:59 PM

hahahahahahaha

ya when i started playing guitar i always asked about pictures in my teachers room.

its funny because the poster i have of SRV has his name written in big letters right under it and people still asked who it was. (a man holding playing a guitar...and his name right under it. can't you just assume the man is a guitarist)

edit - to rock not rolls last post.

BludgeonySteve 09-29-2004 08:00 PM

It's actually harder to play those than rock. Rock is a few powerchords spread out and maybe a cool little riff in between. A medium speed solo and you're done. It revolves around verse and chorus riffs and maybe a few fills. It's also i nthe tone of your guitar.

Ouch

Shakedown 09-29-2004 08:01 PM

Blues infuenced rock is a good choice and you can tell right away. usually it will have a piano in it and a somewhat faster beat. Also the lead singer will sing in a style where he will almost slurr his words together and add in a "mmmhmmm" or "Lordy Lordy" just for good measure.

thickasabrick 09-29-2004 08:02 PM

badmoon you have a banjo? are you any good? i wanna banjo to play bluegrass on. i've tried playing them in stores but im no good.
ya i realize blues and bluegrass are totally different, but those are my two favourite types of music to play on guitar.

edit - my guitar teacher was in an amazing bluegrass duo that toured england and america for years, and did stuff on bbc. now hes back in good ol' saskatchewan...land of no talent musicians. hes teaching me all he knows about bluegrass. its so fun to play.

Badmoon 09-29-2004 08:03 PM

:)

I'm progressively learning. My finger picking is getting really fast, and I got my rolls down great.

guitarted838 09-29-2004 08:05 PM

your 8 years ol playing guitar and already playing banjo, wow your the next hendrix

Badmoon 09-29-2004 08:07 PM

BludgeonySteve 09-29-2004 08:08 PM

Umm, I sort of convinced him and a few others that you were 8 years old :(
