With death metal, and other similar niches, most of the time they seem very interchangeable - with lyrical direction usually being the only element modified. Now, when you take a vocalist that incorporates melody and pitch changes and the like, and brings something completely distinct to the band's sound, I totally agree with you. It's hard for me to reconcile that thinking with grind or death bands, since to me it seems like it wouldn't be too terribly difficult to find someone that can reproduce the desired growl/scream. Though if stage presence and everything else I noted earlier is a determining factor, than yeah, I can definitely see your point.

Edit: Lol, and looking at my post, I realize, "why wouldn't a band pay attention to the things I listed?" I doubt any death metal band striving for success would enlist a lobotomized grunt who stands on stage, drooling uncontrollably and filling their pants with feces. Eating my words, I am.

I like when singers change pitches a lot. That's why I do that.

Uggggghhhhhhh Legion rules so ****ing hard. Band is insanely under-apreeshed.

yeah they're basically on every local bill but they're always so ****ing intense. i'd say they're better than 90% of the touring bands who play here.

also, **** the facts, melvins, thou, salome, young widows, tombs, and end of a year playing in the next month or so

would want to see thou and melvins so hard

salome are so boring but the rest of those bands are really good

i made a trip to boston last year to see the melvins who were great!

I don't really listen to Salome much but I caught half of their set at Scion Rock Fest and it ruled.

Legion is a band I would actually pay to see live.

I take back what I said about Daughters a while back. The new album ****ing slays.

I still haven't listened to it. [I]Canada Songs[/I] and the s/t are both awesome.

Hell Songs ruled. Everything about it was ace.

I remember getting to see them live just a few months after it was released. They were incredible live. I could smell the JD on the singer from 20 feet away.

I never really liked [I]Hell Songs[/I] all that much idk why.

Besides the obvious change in vox, the music wasn't too different.

I've always liked Daughters, but there was something about As the Sun Sets that was just, meh, indescribable. "Each Individual Voice..." was incredible, and "7744" still blows my mind.

Daughters new release isn't even white belt, it's like noise-core. Which I guess ppl would argue are the same thing.
