Yes, it's a shame, but what can you do?

I would have killed to see Rhoads live, but alas, he died before i was born.

Chu 01-22-2005 09:58 PM

Yeah, if Burton was alive, Metallica might still be making decent music!!!

metallicamaniac16 01-22-2005 10:01 PM
Yeah, if Burton was alive, Metallica might still be making decent music!!!
(sigh) Here we go again. Even if Burton was still alive, he's only one member of the band.

Chu 01-22-2005 10:15 PM
(sigh) Here we go again.
lololol Sorry :D

Edit:: You have to agree the quality (Of all their music) would be better....

MoX_KIll 01-22-2005 10:18 PM

Nothings wrong with the way it is now...just Add some solo's

metallicamaniac16 01-22-2005 10:19 PM

I agree, the music probably would be better, but he was still only 1/4 of the band.

Gonna have to disagree with you there. I'm a fan of their old music, but I refuse to live in the past. They can keep makin whatever music they want.

I couldn't agree more. If they want to make a certain style of music then let them. They haven't really been good in my mind since about the time I was born, so I can't really bitch about how they're not as good anymore.

JACKROXYOU 01-22-2005 11:11 PM
Yeah, if Burton was alive, Metallica might still be making decent music!!!
dude they never stopped playing decent music

metal_milita 01-22-2005 11:20 PM

Wow, the whole "cliff alive=better metallica" has been done before. And for those who went into momentary stages of coma during it, it is probably NOT true that Metallica would not have changed. Evidence (sort of) is an interview in which Cliff stated the band would be experimenting with different styles of music. The lyrics and songs would be a whole lot meaningful maybe, but the music would be different.
Besides, I liked Jason Newstead. To me, he was their best performer after 80's James. But I wasn't around to appreciate the awsomeness of Cliff and understand it, so I can't really talk too in-depth about it.

JACKROXYOU 01-22-2005 11:25 PM

jason is nothing compared to donkey kong(rob)

metal_milita 01-23-2005 12:02 AM

Obviously I'm not talking skill wise because Newstead can barley play fast and I've heard great things about Rob. I'm talking performance wise.

slaytallica250 01-23-2005 12:10 AM

Rob is freaking awesome. Seen him twice, and his energy level reminds me of Tom Araya, except it's not just head banging. He's running all over the stage, spinning in circles, playing on his back while kicking, crazy stuff like that. And he's one hell of a bass player. Anybody that can play Battery without a pick deserves a lot of respect.

As far as the whole "Cliff=better Metallica" thing goes, here's my take on it. Like everyone else said, he's only 1 guy. I've always liked Metallica no matter what. I like their old stuff more, but I like their new stuff in the sense that it's still a unique sound. I might just be too big of a Metallica fan, but I can hear 2 notes of the newer stuff and tell what it is right away. I guess my main point is that Metallica is good no matter who's playing the 4 string thing.

RiceMonster 01-23-2005 12:15 AM
dude they never stopped playing decent movie
Thats more a matter of opinion or maybe fanboyism. Not to say your a Metallica fanboy.

I understand the music would have changed, but it would have changed for the better.
And yes, Jason Newstead was **** amazing, and very much so under appreciated by Metallica.
I personally believe they should have given him some more freedom and allowed him to write more stuff, I think maybe that's why I dislike recent Metallica (I guess since Load more then the ...AJFA or Self-Titled). But meh, they did what they did, maybe Rob will write some new material. :)

Lars_ironcobra_doublepedal 01-23-2005 04:20 AM

I cant say that with Burton Metallica would be better because Jason is a very good bassist and he left Metallica because he stopped liking their music.
