more Matisyahu - [i]From the Dust...Arise[/i]. I dig this guy. His music makes me want to convert to Judaism and grow a beard and rap about politics and stuff.

The Blood Brothers - [i]Crimes[/i]. I have decided that the sass is pretty sexy, in an hXc way.

Apostle of Hustle - [i]Folkloric Feel[/i]. This outfit is from Canada, and have members in Broken Social Scene. They are pretty similar to BSS in music style and taste, but feature more nice acoustics.

Got [i]Help![/i] for Christmas, so I've been listening to that. Probably don't need to expand on it much, though. I've also been discovering that I like the White Stripes more than I thought I did, through [i]De Stijl[/i], another gift.

Winnebago Deal. Finally got around to buying some stuff by them, having listening to a couple of free downloaded tracks for a couple of years. Just really good, loud rock. Impressive that so much noise can be made by just two guys. Three if you count Jack Endino, I suppose.

Also got the new Meads of Asphodel album, which sounds great so far. More of the same (Middle East-influenced black-metal-punk-space-rock-drum'n'bass) really, but..well, I want more of the same, da[font=verdana]m[/font]n it. Finally picked up their split with Mayhem too, after far too long putting it off, but I've not listened to that yet.

I also believe I have a package waiting for me downstairs (which I can't get to until the lazy staff decide to come back from their, so far, two hour break), wherein I will find, nestling amongst several books and other stuff, [i]Double Nickels on the Dime[/i]. I got tired of never seeing it available for a decent price, so I just gave up and bought it for full price. It'd better be worth it.

Same here, kind of. I love [I]Jacksonville City Nights[/i] right now.

I put a few more albums on my Ipod, let it charge overnight and then forgot to take it with me to work so I couldn't listen to the new albums I'd downloaded the night before. Had to wait till when I got home to listen to them which was annoying.

Anyway, today I've been digging:

Tortoise - [I]Millions Now Living Will Never Die[/I] - I've had this for absolutely ages on my pc but only just got around to listening to it today. It's a good album but I personally prefer their self titled, [I]Millions...[/I] doesn't quite have the haunting songs that makes their self titled so enjoyable.

Lee Morgan - [I]Lee-way[/I] - I've been on a bit of a Lee Morgan downloading craze at the moment. I've had [I]The Sidewinder[/I] (considered his best and one of my favourite ever jazz albums) for ages but recently since I got my net working again I decided to try and get some more of his stuff. It's a very enjoyable pre-[I]Sidewinder[/I] album but nowhere near the classic status of his masterpiece.

Yeah damm right Nacho. New Zealand put out some seriously good records between 80 - 90.

I think lately I've been listening to a little too much Eno and derivative music. It's causing the music I create to be a little too one sided.

Recently, I got contacted by someone via myspace that used to work at ralph, and was close friends with Snakefinger. I was fascinated by the stuff he told me, and really glad that he'd share it with me. He was suprised that a 16 year old listened to stuff like the residents, renaldo and the loaf, and snakefinger.

So now it's time for me to take a trip down memory lane. Snakefinger, Renaldo and the Loaf, The Residents (of course), Negativland, Tuxedomoon, and any other smaller bands I can find related to Ralph Records.

I really forgot how good this Snakefinger album is.

While i'm in a giving mood is there anything that anyone would like me to share on soulseek?

Lee Morgan is awesome. I've only just gotten [I]The Sidewinder[/I] but it's great. I think I've listened to it every day since I got it.

Right now, though, I'm on some Mike Ladd. He makes some fantastically pretentious music a lot of the time, but sometimes the groove just wins out. At different times in his career, he's been, among other things: a nerd rapper, a mainstream faker, jazz auteur, beat poet, funk rocker, electronic musician. He's done all fairly well. The last thing he did was [I]Father Divine[/I], which has him working with some TV on the Radio contributors and Antipop Consortium folk. It could have been horribly annoying but it's pretty quality, might be worth looking into if you like Beck, TV on the Radio or are already familiar with Mike Ladd.

I also bought some crappy Modern Lovers leftovers compilation album today. Production usually doesn't offend me, but this is kinda sad. Whaddya gonna do, I guess.

What's it mean when somebody is referred to as a backpacker in hip hop?

They usually call someone a backpacker if they're into underground stuff. Used to be the kids would wear backpacks to shows and stuff, with who knows what in 'em. Notebooks and french novels, I think.
