Nah, if you have a separate singer, you're a 4 piece :)
I've always loved one guitar bands. There are some awesome bands about with two guitars, but most of them don't seem to understand the relationship the two guitars should have, and it would sound just as good with one guitar, double tracked for recording. I'd quite like to be in a band with two guitars and let them write everything, then just play something really simple sometimes. Would be quite a good way to relax :p I very rarely like the sound of keys in rock music. Muse used to make it work before they got rubbish. I don't know why, it just doesn't seem to gel properly for me. |
Agreed. When I think of keys in rock, I think of Dream Theater, and I have very mixed feelings about it.
Got the trem circuitry fully installed in my Spector along with the EMGs and OBP-3. It's pretty sweet. In other news, does anybody want to buy an MM stingray 4-string for $650 shipped to CONUS (we can discuss shipping international if you're interested)? |
good price, but no thanks.
how is the obp-3? i used to have a tonehammer, which seemed to be an obp-3 in a box, but i never really used it much, and swapped it for something more versatile. i think i decided i'm not happy with my pedalboard again, haha. i'm such an idiot. |

I've got it in almost all of my basses. It's very versatile and the variable mids is a nice touch. I've currently got the mids set at 400k/800k and it's switched with a push/pull knob. I'm considering wiring it up as a stacked knob, which would allow the top knob to be a variable mid selector anywhere between 400k and 800k. The only nice part about the quick mid switch is that, when I'm playing a solo or playing up high, a quick push/pull can make my tone thicker so that it cuts above the rest. I've also got the EMG-45TW in the Spector, and I expect great things are going to come from it. The single coil mode has a volume increase from the dual coal, so I likely wont be switching between modes for tonal reasons, but the volume boost is also pretty sweet and sounds like it might work well for the solo boost as well. |
Hmm. I never understoor changing settings on a bass for solos/boosts/whatever. I much prefer a pedal to do that. It frees up your right hand, and can have set boost/cuts, whereas knobs on a bass don't click to the same spot every time. You have problems with that?

EMG45TW switch - it's just a toggle switch, so it's not an issue at all. Mid push/pull - I usually keep my mids up all the way up, so when it's just pulling up, it's really easy to keep it on full as well. Then again, I'm always adjusting my EQ on stage, so there's a chance that I'll change my tone a bit even while holding a note during my solo section. Pedals are nice, for sure, but I haven't gotten that coordination down yet, and if I'm in a scenario where I don't need a full pedal board, there's no reason for me to detach just one pedal or two. By the way, the ModBoard tremolo is absolutely sweet. I can change the rate and depth with knobs on my bass. Now I can switch the rate to match up with the tempo much easier than I can with the TR-2. I'm so glad I didn't pull the trigger on that pedal. |
Anyone heard from Gaslight recently?

I have not, but I figure he's rather busy right now (we all are), and just hasn't come onto the forums. Ryan lives in the same country - he may have a better idea. |
Got my EHX Cathedral today. It's incredible.

All us in the Aussie forum are stumped to where he's disappeared.

Wow, I didn't quite understand the true epicness of this game. I think it's the only time I can truly have used the word epic about a game and reeeeally meant it. I just explored for two hours without fighting a colossus and didn't get bored o_O

Told you. :p |
First time you see a colossus too was a pretty wtf moment. It was big.

Nice. Post clips, bitch.
You'd think so, but no. I was going to post some retort here about keys, my band uses keys and we're nothing like muse or dream theatre.
I didn't say that all bands sounds bad with keys, just that they have to be done tastefully. |

I didn't say that all bands sounds bad with keys, just that they have to be done tastefully like your band does on a regular basis.
Yeah, I guess I see where you're coming from. |
think i might pull the trigger on an ipod classic after realising i don't think i could manage with just an iphone and its pitiful battery life with the amount i listen to music on the go :/
my zune does need replacing though. 3 and a half hours battery life? failure. |
I think I must be the only musician I know who doesn't go out of his way to try and listen to music all the time. I have a very **** mp3 which I never use, and had an iPod once which broke; the useless ****ing thing. Unless I'm in my car or at my computer there is no music for me generally. Unless I can't escape it.
Yet I enjoy music so much. Maybe I should get a portable media playing device. |

Speaking of good 3-pieces. |
I've heard too much sh*tty Sick Puppies on the radio to make me like them even a little bit. Emma Anzai rocks out hardcore, though.
|

Maybe, if I can be bothered. I'll tell you, though, reverse reverb is pretty sick. |

Oh yeah  I almost forgot they're over there now. Not many people in Australia know who the **** they are. I like most of their stuff, even the radio stuff. |

"You're Going Down" has to be one of the worst songs I've ever heard on the radio. I felt like I was listening to Depeche Mode until the chorus. Lol. I also get very easily irritated by poor lyrics, and, from what I've heard, theirs aren't anything special. |

I really like some of his lyrics, some are very cliche' and very angsty, but even then for what they are they're very well done. I'll admit though, Tri-Polar does have some pretty dicky songs on it, but some real crackers too; although their previous album was a lot better as a whole. Listen to that link I posted. |
Sorry, but can you define dicky and cracker for me? I'm not sure what you meant by them at all.
|

 Silly Northern Hemisphere person. Dicky is a little bit lame and cracker is ****ing ripper... awesome. |
Well, it seems we've found our singer.
|
The new National album is so good.
The new National album is so good.
I agree. Well, I haven't listened to the whole thing, but all the songs I've heard are quite good. |
Is this the most homosexual thing you've ever seen? I'm not sure what's worse, the "look" or that people think it looks good.

Yes. That is very gay.
|
Thankyou.

I've liked the others, haven't heard it yet. Guess I'm gonna do that now, huh? In other news: What up MX? Anybody got anything going on in life? |
I'm moving into a new place soon. Having troubles though as my room mate doesn't have proof of address as she uses PO boxes and only just got back from Europe.
Trying to figure out what I want to do at uni etc. Hating my job, playing music, usual stuff. |
I've got my only final next week. Not looking forward to it.
On the plus side, Physics III starts on June 1 and it's only a $299 class. Thank you, community college! |
Studying physics at uni? Talk about a waste of time.
Having said that, I "wasted" 18 months at uni not finishing my degree. i.e. getting drunk a lot and generally getting mediocre results. |

It's my minor and eventually I'd like to get a degree in quantum physics. I've been meaning to ask, is "uni" short for "university"? or is it the equivalent of a community college? |
What job prospects and monetary benefits does such a line of study create?
And yes, it is. And I have no idea what "community college" is or should be. Here there's primary school, high school, then you either do trade or go to uni, or work in a shop for the rest of your life hopefully working your way up. Or if you're lucky you can get job placement and do a traineeship, which is similar to an apprenticeship but in a "professional" area instead of a trade area. There is TAFE though, which is basically higher education that isn't a university, highest qualifications you can generally do there are diplomas though. Mainly they're for short courses and certificates in specific areas. I dare say that's what your "community college" is like. |
