You should get some sound clips up.

Oh, and for for some string skipping, try Scarified bt Gilberto if you haven't already.
The new version he plays on his own is better since it's got 2 bar s.k lick at the beginning, then the Bach part has s.k, and right at the end which is the hardest part.

kurrpt 01-20-2006 01:12 PM

i also have a video of PG playing scarified on my IPOD

hes in some friggin astronauts suit, and playing all the instruments

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 01:17 PM

All the instruments? I haven't seen that I don't think. I have him in a space suit but he's with 2 other guys, a bassist and a drummer.

But yeah, I suggest learning Scarified, Snakebite, Superheroes, Street Lethal, Motorman, all by Racer X, they will all test your s.k abilities not only for lead palying, but rhythm too!! :thumb:

not sure how much of those i could really play tbh

ive been doing exercises for 4 months to build my chops to be able to play that sh!t. I guess i just gotta give it a go huh

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 01:29 PM

Well I can't play it at the same speed at Paul but I can play it as clean because I choose not to play it as fast as possible or play along with the CD or whatever. There's no harm in learning the solos, the problem occurs when you ignore note definition and try and play it fast to impress people like some other people on here.
You could just use them as exercises that you practise everyday with a metronome, which is definately what I should be doing instead of sitting on here. :upset:

yea man, thats really fukking good to hear.

as far as playing a metronome goes, i always seem to WANT to use it with weird licks that dont fit into 4/4 that easily

like the intro to universal mind - liquid tension experiment...

the intro is played at 155 bpm, 16th notes, but the weird thing is the pattern only repeats after 4 measures, so the down beats dont match up like you would want them to ya know

PsychoticFlubber 01-20-2006 01:38 PM
 He doesn't use a green striped guitar...
In the "Reap 'n Roll Licks" video, he does. It might be hard to see the green, but it is along the edge of the guitar. I swear that is the greatest guitar in the world... I would never possibly want a better guitar than that... the only thing I could possibly change are the inlays to scythes...

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 01:42 PM

I'm not to familiar with that song but I'll have a listen.

Well I checked and I can't see any green at all through the entire video, looks like a pure black standard Jackson RR to me.

kurrpt 01-20-2006 01:51 PM
I'm not to familiar with that song but I'll have a listen.
its one of those personal bench mark songs everyone has.

I think petrucci is phenomenal on that entire CD tbh

Eh. I assure you, it is green though... I have great color on my computer, but I think the green is on the outer rim of the guitar. Not on the front. It doesn't matter, that's not the point. I just think that is the greatest guitar I have ever seen...

I dno what cd is which but I adore Pardigm Shift, the first time I heard that I was just like :eek::eek::eek:

kurrpt 01-20-2006 01:56 PM

just got a band offer actually.

Im used to dealing with friggin jerks, so hopefully this wont turn out like that

edit: paradigm shift is on that same CD

I tried that intro too. GOOD GOD. Thats the whole reason i started sweeping. Give my left hand muting a work out ya know

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 02:01 PM

Paradigm Shift doesn't have sweep picking...

kurrpt 01-20-2006 02:04 PM
Paradigm Shift doesn't have sweep picking...
yea, i know man...

i was comparing runs at 221 bpm 16ths, and articulating to sweep picking, since both require the left hand to articulate the notes

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 02:08 PM

oh lol im really tired so simple things arent going to make much sense

kurrpt 01-20-2006 02:12 PM
oh lol im really tired so simple things arent going to make much sense
its kewl man

i probably could have explained myself more.

This new band sent me their set list. I fukking hate how people expect you to learn 12 songs in a like a day. I try to get them perfect ya know.

O well

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 02:13 PM

What songs are on the list?

kurrpt 01-20-2006 02:19 PM

ah lets see

/opens email

audio slave - what you are

green day - holiday

metallica - bell tolls

lit - my own worst enemy
weezer - undone
sabbath - paranoid (megadeath version)
white stripes - seven nation army
shinedown - save me
smashing pumpkins - zero
manson - beautiful people
chains - we die young
trapt- still frame

sad thing is, i only heard half of those songs

IheartSP 01-20-2006 02:20 PM

What an odd setlist, some stuff is okay some is kinda stupid (seven nation army lol).

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 02:22 PM

The only ones I'd look forward to are 'Tallica!!!!! and the Megadeth version of Paranoid, the rest are kinda ghey lol.

kurrpt 01-20-2006 02:25 PM
The only ones I'd look forward to are 'Tallica!!!!! and the Megadeth version of Paranoid, the rest are kinda ghey lol.
yea, i agree man. Not really my bag

i figured ill learn some of the ones i like, and see how they are. If we dont click, fu*k it ya know.

Id be lead, so thats a lil better i guess. If i had to chug chords to some of that sh!t, id lose it haha

MRDuCran 01-20-2006 02:30 PM

hah well good luck with sitting up with those songs on repeat, i know how discouraging it can be, ive had to do it with the beatles, queen, blur, U2, franz ferdinand, and i didnt really like any of them but they kinda grow on you once you've learnt them and then it kinda becomes fun playing them.

IheartSP 01-20-2006 02:40 PM

There aren't many perks of playing lead in those songs cause most of them don't even have a lead.

haha thats kinda what i was thinking hehe

but maybe i could write my own

IheartSP 01-20-2006 02:51 PM

You should form your own band. Find people around who have similar interests, or do what I did and try and convert people.

PsychoticFlubber 01-20-2006 02:57 PM

We Die Young by Alice in Chains is a really fun song to play and hear. That is a good one, although the solo is a bit tricky. I never attempted the solo but watching Jerry Cantrel do it freaked me out a bit, I don't know why... yeah, I can't learn all of those in a short period of time so good luck.

kurrpt 01-20-2006 02:59 PM
You should form your own band. Find people around who have similar interests, or do what I did and try and convert people.
yea, thats almost nay impossible.

I tried finding another band, that failed miserably (In the past)

my friends a drummer, but plays punk, so that aint working

/screwed

Hahaha, I feel the same way. There is only one drummer I know, and he plays punk. One other guitarist who actually plays, but is no where close to a decent performance level. Another person is just a kid looking to sing. But everyone has different musical interests. Gangster-type cities are impossible to find decent musicians...

kurrpt 01-20-2006 03:03 PM

actually, id be cooler with some black person rapping, while i play some funky beats

PsychoticFlubber 01-20-2006 03:07 PM
actually, id be cooler with some black person rapping, while i play some funky beats
I would rather get shot than play with some F**Kin' idiot rapping in the mic. I can't stand hearing that stuff, ESPECIALLY hybrid stuff like Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit... Oh damn I better not end up with people like that. To everyone here, the heaviest or scarriest bands in the world are Slipknot, KoRn, (and for the kids who think they are "underground" Cradle of Filth).

Shadows 01-20-2006 03:45 PM

Pfffft, CoF > nu metal
Hahaha, I feel the same way. There is only one drummer I know, and he plays punk. One other guitarist who actually plays, but is no where close to a decent performance level. Haha, that sucks. My town is void of musicians as well. I know a couple emo bassist, one metal guitarist who has pretty much given that up to play piano instead, and that's about it.

IheartSP 01-20-2006 03:46 PM

Yeah numetal is sorta dead tho, the big new thing now is metalcore. All the kids around here love Atreyu and As I Lay Dying. It pisses me off when they see me with a Bodom shirt and are like oh sweet band dude and I'm like oh waht are you into? Then they name 5 crappy new american bands and im just like wtf dude you don't deserve to listen to Bodom, and it is an insult even mentioning Bodom with those other bands in the same sentence.

Britton 01-20-2006 03:52 PM
actually, id be cooler with some black person rapping, while i play some funky beats
I have this frickin awsome drummer who lays down really cool beats. Then I pull out the Wah and get funky and this Black guy from down the street comes and raps over it all.

It's tons of fun.

I'm Charming 01-20-2006 03:57 PM

Please kill me....

html class is so painful .

i could die now and die in utter suffering... but a happy man... I saw bodom live.....

PsychoticFlubber 01-20-2006 04:38 PM

Haha, yeah I know how that feels big time. Damn mall kids. Metalcore isn't too big, it's all hardcore. There is a difference between them, and when I thought the kids at the mall couldn't get worse, they got worse. The emo kids are either too cared to talk to me, or the try to whore all of the social world that surrounds them. All the kids that claim what I listen to is "cool" has never heard 90% of the bands I listen to, and/or only listen to bands they hear on the radio, or from the "popular kids" they like.

I'm Charming 01-20-2006 04:51 PM

Kids here just run around and praise anything they see marketing to the masses at hot topic...

"They sell it, it must be good/talented".

No one listens to metal.

Toaster 01-20-2006 04:51 PM

There's so much drama about bands near me right now, it's unbelieveable. Lineup changes and drummer wars, it's really frustrating and extremely depressing. I used to have a great band but it turned out that my drummer was a complete dick (although he was an awesome drummer), and our bassist/singer had a control-freak personality. In fact today there was a really big incident involving our old guitarist and a singer I know.

Shadows 01-20-2006 05:11 PM

At least you have bands around you. :(
