Here's a clip of me doing the chorus to lateralus.. Critique is very welcome,.. If you think I should sing it differently.. Have gotten the rythm wrong, is singing the wrong melody, or just plain don't like my voice.. Don't hesitate to tell me

Don't double the vocals. I think it would sound better with one track and try to put more melody and let it flow.

Also I didn't know that we had a guitar track for that. I think I'm gonna sing it too.

You're right. Hehe.. Thanks for the input... And it's chris' guitar track I'm using.. it isn't completely done

clearvision 07-09-2005 11:37 AM

Of course that punw as intended :p

Definateley go with 1 track for that part...there may be other parts where it may be usefeul if you can pull it off though...

Are you danish? I thought you had some kind of accent :)

Yeah I first now noticed that maynard isn't double tracking that part. Oops.. And I'm very danish, and I have very big troubles pronouncing "drawing"! Haha

Moses 07-09-2005 11:41 AM

Can you YSI the backing tracks?

Or is on the soundclick?

denboy 07-09-2005 11:42 AM

You should talk to Chris about that, he might have an updated version of it

clearvision 07-09-2005 11:47 AM

...He was moaning about faiths track bieng out, so i don't suppose he will update untill it is sorted...

I will get my recording done monday/tuesday as i have a free house :)

Moses 07-09-2005 11:49 AM

He could edit the WAV file......

I'm gonna record some Lateralus.

clearvision 07-09-2005 11:53 AM

Vox or guitar or what?

I thought you were gonna redo your 46 & 2...?

I can't wait to record, i was doing a little bit the other day and it sounded awesome...:)

Here's my improved take on the chorus

And here's the backing

I will eventually but I'm lazy and Lateralus is easier.

Knifeboy one more thing, don't use so much vibrato on this song. Otherwise it's good.

Also the drums don't seem off at 5:40 like Chris said they did. It's probably the syncopation.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-09-2005 12:16 PM

You bastards. Never go 10 pages without me again! Can someone update me on all that has happened? Any new tracks, new rumors, etc...

Something about morse code...... And I'll be doing Lateralus soon and touching up my 46&2 disaster.

Mr Herb 07-09-2005 12:22 PM

ho dude are you gonna do all of lateralus? knife boys part was good but you should try it and see if you do better. . .I think your voice is more maynard like I think

Moses 07-09-2005 12:24 PM

I'll probably do better than on 46&2 because Lateralus is alot easier for the most part.

The end of 46&2 was so hard to do because I really have to throw it out there to get it and I didn't get it that time.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-09-2005 12:27 PM

Did Chris fix his problem he was having on Lateralus?

clearvision 07-09-2005 12:27 PM

 Jake...flick back a few pages...someone came up with a link, a lateralus Vinyl on August the 23rd...

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-09-2005 12:28 PM

Ah, I knew that they would come out with it sooner or later. :p

Moses 07-09-2005 12:29 PM

It sounds fine to me.

Dude if you cant get it right then do something else that sounds good with the song. . .improvise :p give it a shot

Moses 07-09-2005 12:31 PM

I could just scream the part......

My dirty voice is better than my clean one anyway.

clearvision 07-09-2005 12:34 PM

I need some bass and some drums for aenima...what happened to ken? And where is JoZ? Jake, you talk to JoZ, no? Ihave just sensed the deadline is looming, and this needs to be mixed up well...

Moses 07-09-2005 12:36 PM

Deadline is the first of August.

clearvision 07-09-2005 12:38 PM

Yeah, it is looming...we need bass for lateralus too...other than that we can cover the ground with guitars/vocals...

Moses 07-09-2005 12:41 PM

Who's doing bass for that? I also hope they bring out the syncopation on the "With my feet upon the ground" part. It's necessary for the song to be effective.

Anyway I just sang along with the real version and I feel really confident about Lateralus.

clearvision 07-09-2005 12:45 PM

I want to cover only by Nin...the video has brought that song back to my attention, Trent's voice owns in that song, when he shows his delerium and stuff with little whispers...Video is quality too...:)

I mentioned it because we still need bass for it...no-one has claimed it to my knowledge

Moses 07-09-2005 12:46 PM

I haven't seen that video.....

That song kicks *** though. I really love the disco beat.

clearvision 07-09-2005 12:51 PM

The video, shows an office set-up....with a mac, set of ball things that go tick tick...and one of those things with all these pins in where you can make handprints etc...

Trent is shown on the pin thing while the music comes out of the computer...it sounds pants when i'm explaining it but it really is a good video, though some of the camera shots are a bit off, there is one point where he pushes the glass with his hand, that bit is great...

/hasn't been watching it endlessley

Moses 07-09-2005 12:55 PM

Do they play it on MTV and stuff because the last thing I want is teeny boppers singing The Hand That Feeds?

clearvision 07-09-2005 01:01 PM

Scuzz, which is just as bad

Meh Scuzz is ok sometimes, they tend to play alot of generic emo, I remember screwing one time because i thought they played two MCR songs, but one turned out to be the used  yeah...

Teeny boppers wouldn't sing THTF, one of my mates saw it on CD:UK (pop show) and was liek wtf is tht goff doing? And my ex was so imparital to Nin, when she loved loads of other stuff...basically i don't think Nin has the teeny bopper appeal.

Moses 07-09-2005 01:04 PM

If they had played the MTV awards I think it might have sunk in to the teeny boppers.

Either way I don't really care.

Moses 07-09-2005 01:23 PM

I recorded a chorus but it's really muffled because my mic is deciding to be a bitch.

Artemician 07-09-2005 01:27 PM

Well I just realized how little of a life I have. Ever since reading about the morse code thing on Toolband, I decided to try and over-analyze it (I always interpreted the Lateralus lyric as a good thing). Anyway, here's what I've realized so far:

The word (••• – •• – – • – –) seems to spell "stittett", but that doesn't make any sense. Here I realized that there are no defined spaces between the groups (apart from spaces on either side of a dash, which very well probably means nothing). Here's where it gets confusing, with no defined spaces, you now have to interpret where the spaces would go.

I haven't found that much yet, but rest assured that I will squeeze this dry, as I really have nothing better to do with my time.

I'll look into that, thanks.

*just wasted a lot of time*

Hey, all, just got back from Ocean City. The trip was fun!

So, any news from the world of Tool or in the thread?

Moses 07-09-2005 07:38 PM

What the hell?

/Bump

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-09-2005 07:58 PM

So I'm going to elaborate on what Herb said about the new album's themes to be centralized on space due to Blair's "updates." One lyric is standing out in my mind that would perhaps be a gateway from Lateralus to whatever's next. "Spiral out, keep going" is perhaps referring to unexplored areas of the galaxy.(I've said it before, I know) I say this because of the galaxy contains to spirals. I'm on drugs, so forgive me if this sounds butchered or anything, but you'll get the basic gist of it, I think. :D
