Blind Guardian are kind of meh for me
|
They have Somewhere Far Beyond which is good, but their other stuff range from okay to bad.
|
It's strange how a sub-genre of metal mirrors music as a whole.
The lamest bands are the ones that everyone loves. |
BG is great.
|
They are probably my third favorite Power Metal band behind Lost Horizon and Kamelot.
|
I think I listen to Blind Guardian more than any other power metal band. I love them.
I was working out in the gym to "And Then There Was Silence". Most epic workout ever. |

I agree wholeheartedly about Lost Horizon and Kamelot. I've tried very hard to like Blind Guardian, because I really like their lyrical content, but it hasn't been a success so far |

They get the #1 spot in my book for power metal.
And by book I mean 'gilded tome of arcane lore'. And by 'gilded tome of arcane lore', I really mean my last.fm page. |
Gilden tome sounds better tbh. After listening to a lot of other bands, I've realized that Sonata Arctica is still my favorite for power metal.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ncqi73E6MZE
yes, yes indeed :) they should get in touch with that Ayreon dude and see if he can rustle up some crowd members  |
So apparently, some people on here don't like Roy Khan....which is a total shame.
|
He's great.

|
I have Somewhere far Beyond and Imaginations from the otherside and they are really really great so I recomend it.
|
I also really like Blind Guardian's covers of Surfin' USA and Mr Sandman.
|

|
I just like the double kick.

So I'm still working on my Conan project. I've changed my plans slightly and made it a whole series of songs instead of one giant one. I've finished the music for three already and I'm almost finished with the fourth one. After that, there's one instrumental and two more regular songs. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to experiment with effects like reverb, chorus, and phase shifts once I get the actual instruments recorded. My sound card won't let me tinker with those options in GuitarPro.
I really should get to work on some lyrics soon. The music itself is shaping up to be a mix of power, doom, and Gothic metal. Kind of a weird blend, but that's what's coming out and for the time being I won't argue with it. I've got a few other pieces sans lyrics ready to record, so I'm hoping that sometime this summer I can record all of it and put it out for download on my website. |
I look forward to hearing it. I remember those power tabs (or guitar pro, I can't remember) that you posted a loooong time ago being pretty good. Odds are that it's nothing like them, but it at least proves you know what you're doing.

When I have something I'm comfortable with, I'll put up the midi recording of the first couple tracks. Current track list is shaping up as follows:
The Scarlet Citadel 1. Intro/Betrayal 2. The Scarlet Citadel 3. A Prisoner 4. The Depths 5. On Wings from Beyond 6. King Conan Lives 7. The Battle of Shamar Side 2 1. Infinite Serpents 2. Fire Wraith 3. Winter Wolf 4. Dark Heart of the Woods I posted Infinite Serpents once before. Still want make some changes to it. Fire Wraith was my catharsis for that recurring nightmare I described back in 2006. Also my first true foray into doom metal. Winter Wolf was something of an experiment in Gothic metal. Dark Heart of the Woods is a bit of power/Gothic. It does have one of the catchiest riffs I've written yet though. |
The track listing makes it sound epic.

He could be the Dan Swano of Power Metal. |
Hey guys I wanna take another album of Freedom Call. I already have Eternity. Which one should I take?

I would except for the fact the I can't play piano, drums, or bass, and I'm a mediocre guitarist. I've been focusing on my vocals in the last year. It's funny, I can write, but I can't play. I'll be doing the vocals myself, trying a few different styles to see what sticks. Other than that, I'll be getting friends to do the other instruments. Any gaps, I can probably get a friend with ProTools or Garage Band to fill in. |
I gave Lost Horizon a listen to today and I must say they are quite tight.
|
Did you listen to Highlander (The One)? If not, you need to do yourself a favor and listen to that song.
