Later days

I've always loved riddles.
Even if i can never get them, theres always something attracting about them.

Spaceman Spiff 10-18-2006 02:14 PM

How to philosophy talk (though that never really started) turn into a series of riddles?

irishslappop 10-18-2006 02:17 PM
What? Continiously contradicting itself?

Like how electrons used to be seen as particles rotating on a fixed path,
but now they're saying it's all random?
exsactly. INDUCTION. its the engine that science works on. it says "what happened in the past will tend to repeat itself."

but how do we know that? "because the past HAS repeated itself." Science's way of proof is it's self. seems very different then the science they taught you in school no?

One Groovin Clown 10-18-2006 02:18 PM

Very much so.
The way i see it is that most research are theories that are very beliviable.
Once the scientists can get enough support behind the theory, then it will be widely accepted as "proven".

irishslappop 10-18-2006 02:21 PM

thats how it works. its very dissapointing. i see people saying "omfg j00 dont have t3h scienctific evidence." and its starting to piss me off. these people dont even understand how science works and just blindly accept it because your physics teacher TOLD you that it was correct.

didn't teachers TELL they're students that the earth was the center of the universe too??

hmm...

That question always comes up in my head during math class.
Theres all these formulas and methods that work, but how do we know they're right?
And how come we never really learn what the formula is doing?
We learn it to use it to solve meaningless problems.

irishslappop 10-18-2006 02:25 PM

1+1=3 who's going to prove me wrong??

i bet a mathematician couldn't. he'd probably agree with me.

1+1=2.

Why? Because that's what modern society has taught me, and modern society is never wrong.

irishslappop 10-18-2006 02:29 PM

haha see?

while it's fun bull****ting about this stuff, the common clave american DOESN'T KNOW ****. they eat ALLLLL of it up. in the ear and in the head. WHAT EVER YOU TELL PEOPLE. its a very bad trait that is not getting better.

One Groovin Clown 10-18-2006 02:31 PM

People have always been ones to "soak" up an information that the majority of leaders say is true. That has never been different.

irishslappop 10-18-2006 02:34 PM

but its getting worse. on american news you'll see the american soilder shooting ALL BY HIMSELF every time. every single time. on the BCC its shows the american, and next to him the brittish, austrailian, and other european soilders fighting beside him.

isolating the US socially from the rest of the world is one of the governments main priorities right now.

good talk guys but i have work. maybe i'll drop in later and let all of you know that the washington monument has a essence of fiveness and might even contain a soul later.

But it would be nearly impossible to investigate every bit of evidence, thats where the problem enters.

You would have to pick one topic and spend a lifetime researching it to be almost completely sure that you had proved or disproved it.

I think chaos theroy is the way to go.

One Groovin Clown 10-18-2006 02:37 PM

I think they're just trying to stay on top.

If they get the idea that America is fighting this "war" all alone then it will give a little more hope for the american people. Thus giving more support towards the gvernment. Wich will allow them to have more freedom in an "arms" race so that they can prove they're still the worlds superpower.

Remember how you said the past repeats itself?
How did world war one start?

dont get me wrong. i accept science before some crack pot bull**** untested theory, its just that so many people accpet science as TRUTH, when it isn't.

I will.

1+1=2 because math is a creation of man and it is final. We all know how to count and we know what happens when we add numbers together. Numbers are factual and true and unchanging. You can't change the rules by saying 1+1=3 or 1+1=2500.
You can't change the rules by saying 1+1=3 or 1+1=2500.
why not? who made the rules in the first place and why are their rules more sound then mine? they're not. no matter what the "rules" are subjective to the person that made them. maybe i dont like the number two and would rather have 1+1=3. it still makes sence, by my standards.

One Groovin Clown 10-18-2006 02:40 PM

As spiff said, they're a convention of mankind.
If we wanted to we could change them, but why would we?

Who made the rules? Whoever invented the whole damn number system and mathematics, that's who. Their rules are more sound than yours because they invented it and the rules for math are constant.

Also, who gives a crap if you don't like the number 2? Does the world revolve around you? Maybe you're the center of the universe and everything was built around you. Everything moves as you do. Everything changes as you see fit.

That's sounds pretty goddamn stupid, right? That's why 1+1=2.

Pinhead13 10-18-2006 03:03 PM

My dad told me that when he was in college he had a teacher that proved to him that 1+1=3

What the hell?

I always kill arguments... and not with stupidity.

Spaceman Spiff 10-18-2006 03:07 PM

Here's how 1+1 can equal 3.

Old scriptures have been uncovered that prove that the math and number system we use now is a fake, the real one has been hidden for all these years.
This is how we really should count: 1 3 2 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 13 12 14 15 etc..

Right, I need to head off to bed.

Have a good one all.

Cheers.

I had one goal for my school year; not get anything lower than an A on Spanish.

So, after getting a 90 on my first semester, I start the other with a whopping 63% D. If we only have four other grades for the semester, I need atleast one 100% A and nothing else lower than a 95%.

Oh god.

If that's the case, I ate Jesus for lunch.

thelowsoundofbass 10-18-2006 03:11 PM

Actually the conventional number 1 and 2 are just symbols that represent the numbers one and two. So therefore 1+1 can equal 3, but one + one can not.

If I recall that correctly, google it.
