I don't like gangland too much although its got a cool drum intro, but yeah Ive always loved invaders. My fav song at the moment is probably Dream of mirrors or Afraid to shoot strangers

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-03-2004 12:49 PM

worst maiden song....

w/ Paul- prowler
w/ Bruce- the appriation
w/ Blayze- virus

YDload 06-03-2004 01:28 PM

I always liked Invaders, probably because I play it so much on bass. Good scale workout in the chorus.

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-03-2004 03:01 PM

its a shame Invaders was only played live a handful of times, i see it as a great opening tune for a show. its what id call a Maiden fan favourite.

TheUnavoidable 06-03-2004 03:10 PM

Anyone got the tracklist for the Rasing Hell video? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

listen to it while snowing, for some reason that song becomes GREAT then... i have always loved i...

oh, and i wanna ad Gangland and invaders to... i never listen to The number of the beast anymore... becouse the good songs from that album are usually played at concerts (like the live cds in eddies archive)

flappersack 06-04-2004 03:08 AM

The Apparition? That song is awesome! Its one of iron maidens most unique sounding songs i reckon.

GurS 06-04-2004 04:35 AM

.... are you serious?

Photophobic 06-04-2004 08:44 AM

I read a quote form Steve saying that they'd always closed their set's with the song Iron Maiden. Is this still true?

LordDargon 06-04-2004 08:47 AM

The Prowler is awesome!

"Got me (something) my self, and reeling around!"

I love that old punkish maiden!

Feeling.... its an great song!

its always in there, and usualy last.

The Clansman...secrets 06-04-2004 01:54 PM

My favorite songs, I've got four...with a reason for one.

2 Minutes to Midnight, why? It's the song that introduced me to Iron Maiden

Aces High

Wrathchild (Live at RIR 2001)

And, of course, The Wicker Man

YDload 06-04-2004 02:12 PM

I've always considered "Quest for Fire" to be a really stupid song, probably because of the lyrics. Dinosaurs and cavemen didn't live at the same time!

Population Zero 06-04-2004 02:29 PM

Hey guys, I'm just getting into Iron Maiden, and I'm going to buy my first Maiden album tomorrow! I consider myself a die-hard metal fan, but have been broke for about 4 months (due to the massive scale buying on guitar and guitar stuffs). So I have yet to buy a Maiden album.

I've heard some Maiden (don't ask which songs or which albums, I can't tell you), and I like it, which is mainly why I'm buying on of their albums. :) Duh.

Anyway, I was wondering what album you would recommend as either their best or the best one to start out with.

Thanks for the help!
Population Zero

im sorry, i just dont enjoy Prowler very much lol.

my only beef with the DVD "raising hell" is how low the mics are turned up for Bruce, its his "going away show" and you have to struggle to hear him :(

Heres a new topic....post one of your favourite Iron Maiden webpages for us all to enjoy :)

punkish...see thats what gets me lol. im not into that sound very much, i enjoy the first two albums alot but the punkish sound to me isnt what got me into Iron Maiden and isnt what i would call their signature sound, with Paul it sure, but i see people remembering them for their epic sound that came more into the picture with Bruce.

Photophobic 06-05-2004 03:54 AM
I've always considered "Quest for Fire" to be a really stupid song, probably because of the lyrics. Dinosaurs and cavemen didn't live at the same time!
It has a nice solo though. I was listening to it just now and I just suddenly though 'wow'!

This is an amazing page:

www.maidenfans.com

There is also a link the the middle at the top to the Iron Maiden Commentry, which has possible interpretations of all thier songs, as well as other stuff. I would advise and Maiden fan to check it out :)

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-05-2004 03:58 AM

Quest for Fire is incredible, lyrical content i think is great because it tells a good tale of how ealry man survived in a harsh landscape. the rhythem riff is killer, not to mention Nicko's great triplets on the ride cymbal!! Bruce hits some of the highest notes he ever reached in Maiden history in the first verse "...swamp and caves WERE HOOOOMMMEEEE!!!" lol. killer tune.

Photophobic 06-05-2004 04:00 AM

YOu honestly love every maiden song and album, don't you Frail?

GurS 06-05-2004 04:26 AM

ok.... album help here. i have nearly all the maiden studio albums, but none of the blaze era albums (best of the beast doesn't count). which should i get: x factor or virtual xi? on one hand, virtual xi is the worst maiden album ever. on the other, the clansman. help?

Thunder Fingers 06-05-2004 04:47 AM

Virtual XI dont suck, but i advice you to buy The X factor....

toolboy84 06-05-2004 05:16 AM

I'd go with the X Factor, but I really don't like Virtual XI

DoktorShred 06-05-2004 05:28 AM

X factor is a great album, id rate it above dianno material by far. If it werent for the bad production i think it would be in my top 3.

VXI on the other hand is pretty weak, but still worth it for the educated fool, clansman, and futureal

QUESTION !
-------------

OK. what's your most favourite SLOW maiden song?
mine is: children of the ****ed

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-05-2004 09:08 AM

Maiden slow song.....hard to say, maybe "wasting love" because i just learned the whole thing, great solo by Janick!

Thunder Fingers 06-05-2004 09:22 AM

got to give it to "revelations", its slow in major parts of the song...

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-05-2004 09:25 AM

^^^

very true, Marvelous bass playing by Steve and one of the best examples of Bruce's song writing by himself. id put that above Wasting Love, just im on a huge kick for that song due to learning it hehe.

naboo 06-05-2004 10:34 AM

Hey guys guess what today is.

It's NICKO McBRAINS BIRTHDAY!!!!

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-05-2004 10:57 AM

Happy Birthday to the bloody bloke!!!! i think ill bake him a cake......brb!

you mostly hear steves bassline in that songs, so i think he would have the right to put his own name on it to :p i dont think steve lets anyone write his basslines..

HAPPY B-DAY FLATNOOSE!

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-05-2004 11:02 AM

oh i know that, the song is laid out by bruce and left for the members to fill in where necessary...just on the pre-chorus i enjoy his harmony alot. one of my favourite Harris bass lines t oplay. Just like in a lot of songs Adrian has written, it leaves Steve room to write in his part on bass.

btoto 06-05-2004 02:15 PM

hey Frail, I learned Wasting Love a week before :) probably easiest maiden solo :)

why no one likes Children of the Dam*ed :(

Firecracker 06-05-2004 02:25 PM

i love children of the ****ed.
kthanks.

i learned the intro to the trooper properly today.

FrailandBedazzled1979 06-05-2004 03:11 PM
hey Frail, I learned Wasting Love a week before :) probably easiest maiden solo :)

i love chilren of the ****ed!!!

I dunno about the easiest, belive it or not BOTH solos on Aces High are simple as pie, impressive sounding but not hard at all to grasp. Also, Adrian's lead on "Die with your boots on" dosent take much time to learn, but Adrian's lead on "the fallen angel" i cant pull off lol. im mainly a bassiest who just learns songs for fun on guitar.

YDload 06-05-2004 05:22 PM

I like "Revelations" and "Children of the Damned" not because they're slow songs, but because they start out slow and then kick it up a few notches. My favorite part of "Revelations" is the sudden "Dah duh dant!.....Dah duh dant!.......Dunnn Daaannn Doon Dun!" and then it goes off into dual leads. Awesome stuff.

GurS 06-07-2004 10:51 AM

why was this on page 5?

The best maiden slow song is strange world of the s/t. no competition. NO COMPETITION. except maybe journeyman (electric version) or prodigal sun (nice 12 string use)

The Clansman...secrets 06-07-2004 12:52 PM

Slow songs...hmm..., I got three...Powerslave. What? it's slower than most of their stuff. Blood Brothers and Paschendale. Just for kicks I'll throw in Infinite Dreams.

btoto 06-07-2004 02:36 PM

DOD soloists
-------------

well, I didn't know where to find the official info about DOD soloists, so I kind of tried to find out myself. I'm famiiar a little with the style of all 3 guitarists. Well, not much but anyway..... :)

So, here's what I think:

1. wildest dreams - Adrian
2. rainmaker - Davey
3. no more lies- Davey, Adrain, Janick (watched the video :) )
4. montsequr - Janick
5. DOD - Janick, Dave
6. gates of tomorrow - Adrian
7. New frontier - Adrian
8. Paschendale - Davey, Adrian, Janick
9. face in the sand - Adrian
10. age of innocence - Dave

12. pass the jam - what the hell? :)
