Is anyone from mx going to the March 5th Los Angeles Metallica show? I want to go but I might not have anyone to go with and I would like to meet up with some Metallica fans if I do go.
How is retiring from albums and just touring the opposite from Maiden?
Because I read that Maiden are still doing studio stuff but no more touring?

The St Anger Album Was A Dream It Doesnt Exsist

even if i might have boguht the suposed album - how was i suposed to no there wasnt one solo on it :upset:

Kickflip_Burrito 01-10-2004 04:06 PM

f*ck man i haven't posted on here for soooo long. my last post was about the gigs they did on the 19th and 20th of Dec. ah well.

St. Anger is quite a good album, its a change tho. Yeh lack of solos but with Metallica, they embody the whole aspect of Metal and i suppose they were expanding the ideas with a different concept of Metal, more nu-metal. The only thing i don't like is the inconsistency of the album, you'll get a few good songs, then a couple that suck, then another good one, then a bad one and so on.

Like it was said at MTV Icon = 'Black Sabbath created metal, Metallica perfected it'.
Really, Metallica represents the metal genre and i suppose they were spreading their influence into other regions/types of metal. well, you may think differently but thats the way i view it.

Dont let the thread die! It was on the third page, keep the discussions going.

Coolidge 01-11-2004 06:15 PM

Rob....Do you guys think he's a good fit? If not, who would you rather see as their bassist.

I think he fits perfectly.

And do you think anybody in Metallica could be replaced? If so, who? and why?

Now discuss **** you!

guitarded_chuck 01-11-2004 07:40 PM

I liked Jason more, he fit the part more. Rob's got skill though, so I'm not sure. St. Anger blew chunks.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 01-12-2004 05:10 AM

METALLICA ROCK!!
'|\/|etallic|-\' lol, (that's supposed to say Metallica :( )
anyway, my favorite songs (in no specific order):
-One (+ it has a great solo)
-Enter Sandman
-Nothing Else Matters
-Unforgiven
-Wherever I may Roam
-Master of Puppets

oh, but I HATE 'the Unnamed Feeling' !!

trinx8 01-12-2004 05:36 AM

Do any of you guys know Metallica's Setlist For Australia?
I'll be at their concert at the music bowl in Melbourne on the 28th. I can't ****in wait!!!!
As for the bassist topic-

Jason Newstead- I think Jason had ****loads of melody. He was so under-rated. He improvised with the songs, and did have a lot of good solos.

Rob Trujillo- So far, all that i have seen, is that Rob plays the same as the album recording onstage, which has pros and (mostly) cons. But he does look cool onstage though.

These are just my opinions and i'm sure lots of people will beg to differ.
If anyone could tell me the setlist for Australia, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

Nobodies gonna know the Setlist until they actually Hit The Lights. I suggest you look up some of the most recent set lists from Europe.

Kirk could easily be replaced.....most of his Solo's ain't to tricky. But I dunno, people would get pissy about it.

RideTheSpiral 01-12-2004 07:10 AM

All of them are disposable except James...

He's nothing special.

trinx8 01-12-2004 07:27 AM

Does anyone know how to get that cool clean sound James gets live??

Phoenix_2003 01-12-2004 07:33 AM

Hey lads

Well done for makein Thread, Metallica Rule. I saw them at Earls Court last month and they were ****ing great (as per normal). 1 thing has been pissing me of l8ly. The people that only like metallica for St.Anger and diss metallica's old stuff which rocks the most. I find st.anger to be a bit of a disapoinment but I think its better live cause they add solos, the drums dont sound **** and james sings better.

Cya l8er guys :thumb:

I agree he could be replaced with a run of the mill drummer, and Kirk could probably be replaced aswell.

i dont think so. theyve all been together (except rob) since 80 and theyve done great and made up good stuff together. they flow and theyre used to how each of them play. so i dont think any should be replaced, and theyre all frickin really good.

Kirk Hammet 01-12-2004 10:54 AM

Metallica is like one the greatest bands in the world
they have like what 10 albums or somthing and all of them have
great metal music these people have the way too manipulate metal music for more than a decade!!! Metallica is an inspiration to everybody!!!

Photophobic 01-12-2004 11:03 AM
Because I read that Maiden are still doing studio stuff but no more touring?
maiden did/are doing a tour of europe with funeral for a friend.

I like Rob. :thumb:
Lars isn't the best metal drummer, but he is the best metallica drummer. His style helped define the bands sound and he knows how to work with James well.

Metallicat 01-12-2004 01:15 PM

the 3 original members is the only thing keepin them together right now. get rid of lars and kirk and they're over with

PimpDaddyKabZ 01-12-2004 04:09 PM

Haven't visited this thread in a while...

Anyways....I'm here to post more thoughts.

Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets. I just named 3 of Metallica's FIRST original full length albums. Loved by millions of people all over the world. Load, Re-Load, St. Anger. Three of Metallica's latest works. Nobody is saying to hold these latter 3 and put them in high regard as the first 3, but fact is...this is the SAME band (essentially).
What does a band want to achieve? They put emotions into music, fans latched on to that. They vent through their music, fans love the way the do it.
They did that with Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets. They also did that with Load, Re-Load, and St. Anger, yet fans don't love it because now the band doesn't "vent" about the same things in the same manners. In other words; different songwriting.
St. Anger - as an album, lyrically without repitiousness, quite good. Riffs? Great. Solos? Non existent, but thats the main weakness you could say.
ANYTHING ELSE......ANYTHING.....should be blamed on production. Production can make or break a bands album. It can throw bands into the spotlight, or have the world hate them for the album they put out.
Metallica put so much trust into Bob Rock, it just felt comfortable working with him after "Metallica" aka "The Black Album".
MAJORITY of fans admit that from "The Black Album" onwards, they saw Metallica declining and did not enjoy the latest albums as much as the previous four. Why? Again..I say production.
This can be argued to no end...

On a different note: Anyone seen the video for "The Unnamed Feeling"? I really enjoy the video, and the visuals/camera-work is great. Also one of my favorite St. Anger tracks.

soundcheckxx 01-12-2004 06:48 PM

i think metallica should try making the next album with out bob rock
i love all of metallica's work ...but i think they can make a few more great
records.

PimpDaddyKabZ 01-12-2004 09:06 PM

Sadly.....I can't really fathom another record from Metallica......

if they do make one.....I know they can't really get much (dare I say) worse than they have gotten.....not to say they are bad, just to say that they have been blinded by Bob Rock.

If I ever get the chance to meet any of them.....I will beg them to drop Bob Rock...YOU SHOULD TOO! hah.

ThrashMaster27 01-13-2004 02:32 AM

Every band Bob Rock works with he makes them more commercially sounding. He made Metallica lose there Raw Thrash feel when he produced the Black Album, although ...AJFA was bordering on Hard Rock/Metal. Also did the same thing with Motley Crue when producing Dr. Feelgood. Any other bands he messed up?

Coolidge 01-13-2004 08:25 PM

*Kicks the threads **** BUMP

Here's a question....Is there a piano playing on Orion? Listen to slower part. Crank it up and it sounds like there's a piano playing in the background...At about 5:18 you can start to hear it. That song still makes me stop and just listen.

PimpDaddyKabZ 01-13-2004 09:58 PM

piano? I had never noticed that.....probably just some extra bass fills.....because its really mellow sounding and warm.....but I'll have to listen for that

dave_slash 01-14-2004 06:35 AM

Is anyone goin to see metallica on tour in march?

ElectricV 01-14-2004 07:52 AM

I want NZ BDO-goers to tell me what their setlist was please?!?!?!

I'm seeing them in 6 days!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!! then in 2 days after that!!!!! Oh, shall be good. I've never seen the bastards too.

I don't think Lars should be replaced, because of the chemistry and all, I'm saying he could be if push came to shove and Metallica could still go on.

sacrifice93.2 01-14-2004 10:59 AM

Lars may be a turkey, but he's the reason Metallica has gotten so far. As for Bob Rock, he helped craft the Black Album, so I'm not complaining. I just wish he hadn't f*cked up St Anger.

U guys wanna see Rob play? Pick up a Suicidal Tendencies record or an Infectious Grooves record. That guy has monstrous chops(although I still really like Jason and Cliff)
