PIX does Food Not Bombs, Pages to Prisoners, ect.
AM! do music for MTV. I think AM! are really working towards something. |
I'm not annoyed, I'm just annoyed at the hypocrisy of this whole "moving to Sire records" scandal. If they want to make money, that's fine, but going completely against your beliefs is what I don't like.

I don't know what Hot Topic is, but I assume it's a posershop. Well, what is everyone doing there if they hate it so much?
And as for the AM! "selling out" junk, well, we in the anarchist/activist community (in London anyway, though I am convinced this is everywhere) try to judge people by their deeds, not their words. Now if they sign on to a quasi-major record label, that's not selling out. The trick to a capitalist society is that to fight it you have to contribute to it in some way, however small and petty. But you can see how better publicity will help their cause. I do not believe that the end justifies the means, and the end they seem to be getting at is an end to capitalism, even though it means contributing to the system in a larger scale. It works, and it has its plus-sides (end justifying means, that is), but it has a bad downside, that is, a minority always gets hurt. But better publicity means bigger audience, means more people will become anarchists. Or at least anticaps. I think AM! are taking the road the Crass refused to take, and we'll see which one was wiser in a few years' time. For the meantime, unless they are advertising McDonalds' or skate shoes or designer clothes, they are not selling out. |

At least we've still got Mischief Brew for sincere, rocking anarchist anthems.

or the sex pistols:smoke: |
Don't forget Anti-Flag!
Or Aus Rotten. |
OH yeah, Against me! are sponsored by the skate shoe company 'Enties.'
They're sponsored by Etnies!? Or is this sarcasm? Anti-Flag rock! Right on! "Anti-flag? That's not anti the American flag, is it?" |
I don't care if people I hate listen to them. Infact, I can't be mad, because someone I absolutely dispise that loves them has known them longer than me. Without him and some friends of mine, I may have never heard against me!
I can't bring myself to care about what record label they're on. I had a great time at the concert over a week ago. |
They're sponsored by Etnies!? Or is this sarcasm?
Anti-Flag rock! Right on! "Anti-flag? That's not anti the American flag, is it?"
Are you being sarcastic about Anti-Flag? Because I wasn't. |
Are you being sarcastic about Anti-Flag? Because I wasn't.
Oh Christ no. I love 'em. I saw them at Leeds, they were awesome. "Stick your middle finger in the air! **** YOU! SHOUT IT! **** capitalism! **** police brutality! **** war! **** government! **** YOUUUU!" Heh, they were kickass. |
You still like them, even though they say all that whilst being on a major label that funds war and corrupt governments? Theyre the biggest hypocrites in punk rock today.
|

Couldn't have said it better myself. |

ANTI-FLAG!??! They're on A-F Records. They started that record label. |
govt is a misleading term
just the idea of using money at all is selling out but inevitable for survival so inavoidable essentially good for them theyll get more exposure and maybe one person will stop using money haha :( |
No, they're on RCA with Avril Lavigne.
http://rcarecords.com/artists.html See for yourself. |
So they're on two record labels?!
http://www.a-frecords.com/BND10.php |

Anti-Flag rock! Right on! "Anti-flag? That's not anti the American flag, is it?"
It's not sarcasm. They get free enties. |
So they're on two record labels?!
http://www.a-frecords.com/BND10.php
No they're just on RCA. Only past releases are on AF. |
So they're on two record labels?!
http://www.a-frecords.com/BND10.php
All old material belongs to AF records. All new material belongs to The Major. |
pwn'd
|
So they're on two record labels?!
http://www.a-frecords.com/BND10.php
You're missing the point, which was that it's hypocritical to say "FUCK WAR! FUCK THE GOVERNMENT" when they're on RCA, a major label, a huge corporation that profits from war due to its links with the goverment. |
I thought it was because they just spent the better part of ten years talking about the evils of corporations and then were on a corporation and used the Chumbawumba excuse. Unless Justin Sane gives every cent he earns to Food Not Bombs or something then it just gives me more reason to hate Anti Flag.

Those fuc'king sell-out little bitches! What the fu'ck happened to integrity? When that album comes out, it's due for a stickering. HMV workers will be peeling stickers off album covers like never before. Those fu'cking cunts:
“To those of you who consider yourself a part of our community, we understand that our decision may cause you concern or piss you off,” the band said in a statement. “We deeply respect you and do not want to discount your concerns. We want you to know that we are confident in our choice and completely committed to the principles that we have backed over the last ten-plus years.” "A part of our community"?! Now who's the fuc'king elitist punk? http://www.aversion.com/news/news_article.cfm?news_id=4212 I declare a boycott on any new Anti-Flag releases. I suck at making them, but somebody should make an Anti-Anti-Flag stencil. |
This reminds me of how Rage was on a major for pretty much every release they did. Fight all the powers but Sony.
|
Can we have a list somewhere of every punk band that sold out?
|
I don't listen to Anti-Flag because I don't really like their music.
|
I hate the term sellout.
|

Same, except all the kids who listen to anything remotely close to punk in my school think that they're going to be the next Nirvana craze and cause some sort of social revolution. Although if we got the mall shopping bunch into anarchy, then we'd have some real leverage going. |

I don't know a single person at my school who likes anti-flag, although I went to a concert of theirs freshman year with a few friends. They were there to see against me! who were playing with them though. |
MY metalhead friend likes them, a lot of scenesters (they think it gives them punk rock cred?), and this one chick who's into 80's hardcore. And this hippy chick likes them but she also thought that the Misfits were from England and thought they were serious about wanting to kill people so her opinion doesn't count.

Hehehehe. Guess what kind of 'philia my ex though the Nekromantix were into? |
Oh, toughie, how about Ethanphilia?

 wow, I'm glad I don't know people like that. |
Methinks we are spamming up this thread a wee bit.

RAR sounds hollow for real. As much as I don't want to admit it, they are dead to me. I agree with some people "who cares if they still make great music?". They won't. SFAFC was bad. Admit it. If not bad it wasn't Against Me!. SFAFC wasn't the band I loved, neither is the Against Me! on Sire records, or the Agaisnt Me! that took their record off of PIX. My once favorite band is officially dead to me.
|
.......
Everyone calm down. |
