Two words:
Immortal Technique. Apart from him and Natas, I don't care for hip hop. |
I enjoy Immortal Technique.

Are there any Ill Mitch fans? My buddy keeps talking about him, so I think I'll check him out.
EDIT: Scratch that, he looks like a joke. On another note, Beauty And The Beat is awesome (I'm lookin your way Christian) |

I haven't really gotten into the album yet, except for "Morris Brown". I'm uber stoked for the movie however. |
Does anybody know of El-P and the whole Def Jux label?
I got Fantastic damage by El-P which i've been playing non stop lately and want to know where to go next for something with a similiar feel. |

I saw this didn't have a review yet, and so I took it upon myself. Anyone amped for the new Immortal Technique? The new Outkast was better than I expected, too. |
So yeah, Illmatic and Paid in Full are two of the best hip-hop albums I've ever heard. The former in particular.
"It Ain't Hard to Tell" has to be close to the best hip-hop song of all time. |
Who else is pissed that Nas changed the name of his new CD from "Nigga" to "Hip-Hop is Dead"? It would have been HIlarious had he named it simply nigga.
|
Speaking of Nas, I downloaded Illmatic like fifteen minutes ago and I'm pretty much picking up my jaw off the ground.
|
the whole "hip hop is dead" attitude is so lame, overused, unoriginal and too cliche now a days, sounds pretty whack to me
|
Z-ro's "Every Day Same Thing" is becoming my favorite song.
|

Pretty much. But I'll still check it out when I can. |
I would like to promote People Under The Stairs as an excellent example of West Coast MCmanship.
|
:-D
I love PUTS. |
People rave about Illmatic but I haven't had a chance to hear it, is the hype justified ??
Oh and is there any fans of Grime on Mx ? |
I like some Grime. What artists in particular are we talkin'?
|
The Mitchell Brothers.
Not to change the subject from Grime, but The Roots are back on top with this new record, man. I waited to listen to it for so long because I had low expectations, but those were just shattered. |
I heard a song off Game Theory and it sounded like a bad PE rip off band.
|
I was assuming the new Roots would be horrible, i'll check it out I guess.
Grime belongs to Dizzee Rascal. |
People rave about Illmatic but I haven't had a chance to hear it, is the hype justified ??
In a matter of a few days of first listening to it, I've discovered that it's one of my favorite albums of all times. Definitely justified.
|
Black Thought is terrible on the new Roots album (worse than usual) but the band is on point. I wish they'd just drop the weak link.

I'm with you, I don't like Blackthought at all. The only album of theird that I have is Things Fall Apart, and the parts I like best are when Mos Def and Common are guest starring. |
I love watching stuff from them performing live, but other than The Seed, (which is like the best song ever) they've never blown me away on record.
|
true @ the roots...there's no message imo, lyrics suck (if you even call them that), and the band doesn't really expand their horizons much, they stay within the same frame work...i mean this is a LIVE band, can't we get creative? instead of producing the same predictable stuff? and as kyle stated, they don't really blow me away either...and blackthought's mumbles aren't really inviting, i mean can't we expand our vocal chords too and do smoething a bit different? they're just mediocre to me
|
Wow, I really disagree. I mean, I felt like that about The Roots for the last three records, but I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. I think it's WAY out there compared to what they've been doing recently. I think the posthumous influence of J Dilla is what did it.
