So what. I always thought of it as just a 'for fun' thing, not something they really practiced.

ATM 07-31-2006 11:21 AM

I was just saying. I like them otherwise :)

pate 07-31-2006 11:21 AM

Good.

NP: Well of Souls

rhcp pman 08-01-2006 12:45 AM
It's so good.

You know it has the song Nile got that riff from, right?
Yeah, when I heard first Unas Slayer of the Gods, I knew it sounded familiar, then realised it was the Well of Souls riff.

Kyle the 2nd 08-01-2006 05:00 AM

Anyone like Halfway to Gone? I think Bartender reccomended them to me about half a year ago, but I only just got around to checking them out properlly. Anyways, they're really good.

Aakon_Keetreh 08-01-2006 03:22 PM

Wats Sun O))) best album.

the2stranger 08-01-2006 03:23 PM

Black one or White One.

Nepenthe 08-01-2006 03:25 PM

Black One.

Aakon_Keetreh 08-01-2006 03:29 PM

I got black one but some songs kinda get boring to me. But it does have to be listened to as a whole.

the2stranger 08-01-2006 03:31 PM

If you get bored by Black One don't bother to get any other albums.
Black one is thei easiest to get in to album, with short songs and a bit more coherent songwriting (for Drone that is :p ).
The Other albums are like 15+ songs most of the time.

Aakon_Keetreh 08-01-2006 03:32 PM

Oh haha, is it gonna take sometime for me to get into this music??? did it for u....

Cravinov13 08-01-2006 03:32 PM

All hail In The Woods..., Swallow The Sun, and Katatonia.

Smackers 08-01-2006 03:36 PM

Greenmachine from Japan is pretty fuckin rocking. I wish they had come over with Boris.

the2stranger 08-01-2006 03:36 PM
Oh haha, is it gonna take sometime for me to get into this music??? did it for u....
It took me time to get in to it too, don't worry.
It's just black one is already their most accesible album, so make sure you can enjoy that before you check out other Sunn O)))

Also, you might want to check out Funeral Doom, it has the uber slow tempo of Drone, but with more melody, that might appeal more to you and makes it easier to get into the genre. :)

ween2424 08-03-2006 12:47 AM

Is there anyone heavier than Electric Wizard? If so, who?

Jondur 08-03-2006 03:27 AM

'Heavy' is a stupid descriptor. You can't measure heaviness. What is 'heavy'? Is it a thick, bass-heavy sound? If so then we'd all shut up after Crowbar or some gay... sorry I mean funeral doom band.

If 'heavy' means an apocalyptic feeling of doom, then Black Sabbath 'Black Sabbath' is heavier than anything released since.

I think you should all listen to Mirror of Deception. I had a very pleasant musical experience on my way to work listening to their excellent 'foregone' album. So much so though that I sat in the car park for an extra ten minutes just so I could listen to the sublime 'bleak' one more time.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-03-2006 03:58 AM
If 'heavy' means an apocalyptic feeling of doom, then Black Sabbath 'Black Sabbath' is heavier than anything released since.
Haha, I was going to mention that song. Brilliant.

Werny 08-08-2006 06:59 AM

For ages I've searched for a Funeral Doom band that didn't try to turn it into something depressing and instead make really powerful, monolithic behemoth-like tunes.

Wormphlegm's Tomb of the Ancient King and Catacombs' In the Depths of R'lyeh have given me exactly that! Brilliant!

the2stranger 08-08-2006 07:12 AM

I'm not familair with them Werny, sounds good though.
I ordered some Funeral doom a few days ago, should be good:

Shape Of Despair - Illusion's Play
Skepticism - Farmakon
Mournful Congregation - Monad Of Creation

Apocalyptic Raids 08-08-2006 07:43 AM

That Mournful Congregation album is great.

Phototropic 08-08-2006 10:08 AM
Is there anyone heavier than Electric Wizard? If so, who?
My elephants band feat. Mr Rhino on drumkitz

Anything can be heavy, heavy is more of a feeling, like a lot of wizard riffs are crushing when the drums kick in but then again so is Ty Cobb by Soundgarden because its so fast and pounding

Kage 08-08-2006 11:17 AM

Anyone here ever heard Queen Elephantine? They're awesome, they've got two albums, the epic Ramesses and another self-titled one I believe. I'm not sure if they're exactly doom metal, but they're certainly some type of stoner/doom rock band. Really good stuff.

They do a lot of improvisational stuff, but I think they're working on another album which will be more composed. I like their spontaneity though. I believe they're touring Australia soon.

the2stranger 08-08-2006 03:21 PM
That Mournful Congregation album is great.
Good.
I only have one demo, I love it, so I decided to get the full length.
At first my distro didn't have it, but now they have 2 cds by them, the one I ordered and a best of/ compilation that also has the demo.
I might order it too in a bit

Nepenthe 08-10-2006 06:07 PM

Just got Evoken's Promo 2002!

the2stranger 08-12-2006 07:23 AM

Awesome, how's it like?

I'm really loving the Mournful Congregation full length.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-12-2006 07:31 AM

The first track on that Mournful Congregation full-length is really good.

the2stranger 08-12-2006 07:32 AM

Indeed, the accoustic guitar arts are beautiful.
Have you heard the Tears From A Grieving Heart demo Jono?
It's really good too.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-12-2006 07:34 AM

Nah, I haven't heard that.

the2stranger 08-12-2006 07:35 AM

I will try and upload it sometime.
You also on the Daily Upload list?

Apocalyptic Raids 08-12-2006 07:42 AM

Yes I am.

the2stranger 08-12-2006 07:43 AM

Alrighty.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-12-2006 07:46 AM

Thanks, Petey

the2stranger 08-12-2006 09:27 AM

No problem.

I'm listening to Skepticis's demo Aeothe Kaear.
It's very good, espially considering it's from '93.
I love the churchorgan like sound, adds so much to the feel.

np: The Everdarkgreen/ Pouring

Apocalyptic Raids 08-12-2006 09:28 AM

That's the only Skepticism I've heard. It's pretty good.

the2stranger 08-12-2006 09:30 AM

The newer stuff is cool too, it has the same atmosphere, but it sounds a bit more sick and psycho.
Aaa, funeral doom. :)

Anyone familair with Nadja?
It's an ambient drone project, My distro doesn't have the cd in stock.
I want the cd. :(

Werny 08-12-2006 12:15 PM

There's so many people that have only heard the demo, it's weird.

I wouldn't say new Skepticism has the same atmosphere...the newer stuff is like an acid-induced nightmare.

the2stranger 08-12-2006 12:19 PM

Maybe I didn't put it right, the atmopshere is indeed different, but you can still hear the typical Skepticism sound.
The new stuff is scary. :upset:
But so good. \m/

Daven 08-12-2006 01:18 PM

The only Skepticism ive heard is Aeothe Kaear and is very good.

repcak 08-12-2006 05:15 PM

never mind: i thought this is the community thread

the2stranger 08-12-2006 05:26 PM

We can be our own little community. :)
We need more doom heads.

I'm listening to some more Shape Of Despair. \m/
