bump

no one? where are the Nine Inch Nails fans....?

Kage 09-13-2005 02:49 PM

Is there a name on the CD or anything?

repcak 09-13-2005 02:55 PM

no nothing. it was copied from a friend, who got a copy... but he wrote 'live in chrcapo/chicapo' or something like that (unless i can't decode his writting...)

maybe its chicago... yeah... thats possible: live in chicago

Kage 09-13-2005 03:19 PM

Ok, well the last half of the CD (tracks 4-10) is the CRC sessions, which was an acoustic show performed live in Chicago. The firs three, I guess, were just extra songs your friend put on there. Anyway, that's a great show I listen to it a lot.

hookers_with_herpes 09-13-2005 03:24 PM
The Fragile was what solidified NIN for me. I love every song on the entire album and I'd still put it above TDS just because of nostalgic and sentimental values.
The Fragile is what turned me off about NIN. I guess I've always been a sucker for Pretty hate Machine.

repcak 09-13-2005 03:35 PM

thanks. but its strange that on the cd there is 'hurt' twice ... or did they played it on the CRC sessions twice too? i suppose not, am i right?

and its still unknown what the 2nd song is. i never heard it and it doesn't sound like it will be a typically nin-song... its soooo different... to much electronic. maybe i can upload it someday.

Kage 09-13-2005 03:38 PM

Yeah, they actually played Hurt twice in the show...they called them Hurt (Take One) and Hurt (Take Two). My guess is that they were unhappy with the first performance, or they just felt like ending on Hurt. Who knws? I love the live performance of Even Deeper though :).

Can you give any lyrics for the unknown song, maybe? I might be able to identifiy it.

hehe... maybe the played hurt twice cause the TDS end with hurt too ... who knows. the performance of even deeper is amazing... i love it too!

wait a minute i can give you the lyrics ... i have to search for the cd... but i doubt you will identify it. i never heard this song... is neither from one of his albums nor from a soundtrack to a movie...

repcak 09-13-2005 03:51 PM

lyrics:
'give it to me (long pause)
and real (i'm not sure... it was too quiet)
give it to me, give it to me

make it stop

give it to me, give it to me, yeah take it.
desert, desert, desert (very quiet with an echo-effect)
give it to me.

give it to me, give it to me, give it to me, etc.
make it stop,
make it stop,
make it stop.'

its more a techno or drum'n'bass song than industrial!! i think someone took the voice of trent reznor (from some songs) and sampled it on the computer with his own musical-theme. this will explain why the lyrics are so simple.

Kage 09-13-2005 03:57 PM

It's possible that someone did the sampling, like you said. "Give it to me" is a lyric from Gave Up; "make it stop," is also a line from Please. Who knows, maybe someone just cut up those lines from those songs and made his own remix. Then again, those lyrics also remind me of Complications of the Flesh, but I don't know about the "desert" part.

repcak 09-13-2005 04:09 PM

maybe it's not desert... it was to quiet!
what did the song remind you? complications of the flesh? never heard of it....

Jawaharal 09-13-2005 04:10 PM

w00t!!!
I'm seeing the nails with Queens of the stone age on Nov. 2
\m/ \m/
It's gonna be fuçking awesome!!

Kage 09-13-2005 04:11 PM

Yeah, Complications of the Flesh. The lyrics are simply:
"Give to me
I can take it

Make it stop."

AH! I figured out what it is. It's one of the discs from Halo 15, which is a single of We're in This Together Now:

1. WITTN
2. Complications of the Flesh
3. The Perfect Drug

So, basically, your CD is "Halo 15 + The CRC Sessions."

repcak 09-13-2005 04:14 PM

i don't know this song... it isn't from an album, isn't it?

edit: halo15... yeah... possible... i think you're right, thats it!! thanks :D

i have found a nice write-up about the session [Link]

Sleeper 09-13-2005 05:29 PM

I'm thinking about getting the albums Broken and Fixed , are they worth the buy?

Kage 09-13-2005 05:46 PM

If you're a big Nine Inch Nails fan, they certainly are, especially since each should be relatively cheap. Broken is my least favorite NIN record, and probably the only major release, except With Teeth, that I can say has songs I dislike. This is contradictory to most people, though, as Broken seems to often be a fan favorite. It's harder and rawer, but it's a nice placeholder between PHM and TDS.

In short...go for it, unless you have yet to purchase one of the four full albums, in which case I recommend completing that collection first.

bwnstl 09-13-2005 06:16 PM

Broken is well worth whatever money you pay to buy it. Fixed is only worth it if you're a hardcore fan who has to have every Halo release.

dr._feelgood 09-13-2005 08:04 PM

I really need to pick up the Fragile, I heard it's amazing.

Kage 09-13-2005 08:19 PM

It is. One of my favorite albums of all time, and certainly my favorite NIN record. It proves that Reznor really is a genius of composition.

Killtacular 09-13-2005 09:18 PM
I really need to pick up The Fragile, I heard it's amazing.
I spit on you for not having it already.

/pah-tooey

It's that good.

LOAfan 09-14-2005 03:57 AM

I was wondering, is the house in "Gave Up" the Sharon Tate house? I asked this once as it's own thread and no one knew. thanks

repcak 09-14-2005 05:21 AM

i remember your thread.
i never saw the video to 'gave up', but its possible, because trent moved to the house right after 'broken' and short before recording TDS.... maybe Kage will know.

Kage 09-14-2005 11:41 AM

Yes, the Gave Up video was filmed in the Tate house. I guess that was just after they moved in there, though I'm not sure the exact date that the video was shot. Manson looks like such a loser playing guitar in that video :p

Neoteric 09-14-2005 11:56 AM
I really need to pick up the Fragile, I heard it's amazing.
Nah, not really.

LOAfan 09-14-2005 01:34 PM
Manson looks like such a loser playing guitar in that video :p
lol, I agree. I'm a big Manson fan, but yeahhhh...lol

Kage 09-17-2005 06:56 PM

You know, I used to think that I liked With Teeth.

Then I listened to it in surround sound.

Sleeper 09-17-2005 07:38 PM
Nah, not really.
Why don't you like it?

dr._feelgood 09-17-2005 10:10 PM

I didn't like With Teeth at all. It just sounded like a bunch of synthesized noise half the album.

repcak 09-24-2005 01:06 PM

wow... great songs... but i can't see "something i can never have" (my favourite NIN-song)

wish and right afterwards terrieble lie :thumb: ... but he should have played march of the pigs right after

Shadows 09-24-2005 01:46 PM

Most of those are songs I'm not familiar with and the rest are from With Teeth. I guess it could be a good setlist if you're a With Teeth fan, which I am. I would love to see more stuff from The Fragile though.

Jawaharal 09-24-2005 01:51 PM
Oh god. I just saw them last night here in Seattle. It was FUCKING AMAZING.

Here's what they played:

Pinion
Wish
Terrible Lie
The Line Begins to Blur
March of the Pigs
You Know What You Are
Burn
Gave Up
Eraser
Right Where it Belongs
Only
Closer
(A new song that they haven't released yet)
Love is Not Enough
Hurt
The Hand That Feeds
Starfuckers, Inc.
Head Like A Hole

That was it in order, as much to my memory as possible. I had a totally clear view of Trent and Twiggy.. and Trent was lookin very sexy. Oh man, it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
Too bad they didn't play getting smaller. I'm seeing them in november with queens of the stone age

repcak 09-24-2005 04:39 PM

i just realised (after looking back at my concerts setlist) that they are playing always the same songs... nearly.

my setlist (14th june)
Pinion
The Frail
The Wretched

Hurt
Dead Souls
Star****ers Inc.
Head Like A Hole
Shadows 09-24-2005 04:40 PM
i just realised (after looking back at my concerts setlist) that they are playing always the same songs... nearly.

my setlist (14th june)
That's kind of how it works. They make up a setlist and play the same songs at every show. The order may change, but the songs are the same.

repcak 09-24-2005 04:41 PM

yeah, but they could vary it more... put more songs from the fragile on!!

isn't it boring for them to play every ****ing evening the same songs ?!

edit: and they always end with star****ers, followed by head like a hole

Shadows 09-24-2005 04:57 PM

It can get boring, it just depends on how they feel about their music. Further motivation to put out the best stuff possible.

I agree, they should've played more Fragile stuff. But for a band like NIN who has millions of songs released, it can get challenging to keep their playing of every song sharp. With a defined setlist, they can relearn the selected songs and not have to keep their entire discorgraphy fresh in their minds.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-02-2005 04:32 PM

Today, I finally broke down and bought a NIN album. I picked up The Downward Spiral from Borders for 15 bucks. So far, I am glad I did. :-D I'm also kind of kicking myself for not seeing NIN a few days ago. :p

As it stands at the moment, my favorite song is Closer, probably just because I'm so familiar with the song.

Shadows 10-02-2005 04:37 PM

Closer is a very memorable song. I also love Hurt, Mr. Self Destruct, and Ruiner.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-02-2005 04:53 PM

I just listened to A Warm Place. Talk about atmospheric. :p So, TDS is a concept album right? Anyone wanna explain to me what it's about?

BlindWriting 10-02-2005 04:54 PM
I just listened to A Warm Place. Talk about atmospheric. :p So, TDS is a concept album right? Anyone wanna explain to me what it's about?
It's about the gradual destruction of an unstable mind.

Mr. Self Destruction is pretty much an introduction to the concept. Heresy is him giving up religion. The Downward Spiral is his suicide. Hurt is him reflecting on his life after he kills himself. And so on.

Wow, it's been a while since I've been in here.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-02-2005 04:55 PM

Similair to Dark Side of the Moon, then? Well, plus drugs, heh. :p

Thanks for the info, I always seem to appreciate music even more when I know the story and meaning behind it.
