Alright, I'm back from my 5-week holiday. Between sailing and music, I've forgotten how to type! My computer seems really strange and hostile, and I get the impression that I'll be using it much less often :p. I bought a second SM57 and a behringer edison, for those of you that remember the old days when it wasn't discontinued. So yeah, I won't come on here and annoy you people as often as I did before. Having said that, see you guys later.

I was exactly the same when i got back from spain.

don't worry, it'll pass
don't worry, it'll pass
Phew, I was getting worried for a second.
Welcome back Airborne! How was it?

Hmm, musically I'm getting ready for my trombone exam in Oct/Nov, checking out music schools (going to the VCA today - should be awesome), theory and trying to learn a flamenco solo that's 5 pages of notation long ( ). I might have to check out Matt Handley & The Dagger Stares :).

sparkl92 08-21-2005 05:38 PM

Hey guys, my name is Heidi and I'm from Rhode Island. I just auditioned for a band yesterday and I got in as lead vocalist, so I'm really excited about that. I'm majoring in music at URI. I'm being trained classically as a vocalist, but my heart is with more modern stuff. This band that I'm just starting out in is going to cover songs for a while until we write our own stuff.

moaner 08-22-2005 01:38 AM

Hi Heidi!

that sounds awesome, good look with your new band.

Sometimes i wish i had some classical guitar training too =s

Trigger_003 08-22-2005 04:40 AM

You can still get it, you know, moaner. No real comparison to having an actual classical guitar teacher, but I can help you out a bit if you want :).

G'day Heidi. What kind of music are you into (I know you said modern, but any genres in particular)?

tell him your first lesson is a trial to see if he engages you as a student.

make osme excuse about finding out if you're "compatable".

qualifications without teaching skills are like a fine sihing rod with no line to be seen for miles around.

Aes820 08-29-2005 06:23 PM

Bump. So what's been happening, kids?

I played a gig on saturday night. It turned kind of pear shaped.
Our vocalist had a bad head cold and only lasted three and a half songs before his voice just failed on him. He could only ding parts of songs, so he'd leave out the verses and just come back in for the chorus. It must've sounded pretty weird.

There were a few other little mistakes (made by all of us) that just added up. A busted string, missed timings, etc.
But people reckoned we otherwise sounded great. So I think we got away with it.
You're always your own biggest critic.
We'll be playing another gig next weekend.

moaner 08-29-2005 06:59 PM

aes's avatar scares me... :s

today i had a nice middle class afternoon of roast dinner, conversation, croquet and boules, with some friends of the family, which was nice.

I recently discovered the abnd mogwai, and they appeal to me.

the guitar forum is giving me nasty psychic vibes.

I just finished the "kids" book "the unfortunate incedent of the dog in the night time", and thought it was owrth reading (only took like, a day) but a tad overrated.

I'm having trouble sleeping (2am here) so i'm emptying my thoughts here.
How very 'English'.
wouldn't have it any other way.

Who loves irony?

The first white settlers in austrailia were criminals.

many of their population are descended from said criminals.

the native aborigne's make up as little as around 2% of the population.

But around 40% of the prison population.

I learned about that in geography ages ago, there was a bit of a crisis.

how's that going nowadays?

Aes820 08-29-2005 07:57 PM
wouldn't have it any other way.
For sure, I wasn't implying that it was a bad thing at all.
many of their population are descended from said criminals.
How can that be grounds for critisism?
Can you assure me that if I traced back through your family tree I wouldn't find once person who had broken the law?
the native aborigne's make up as little as around 2% of the population. But around 40% of the prison population.
Statistics can always be manipulated to make them say what you want them to say. 83% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

But alot of ^that is due to cultural difference and attitudes.
It's a similar story in many other countries.

What is this crisis you make mention of?

moaner 08-30-2005 03:42 AM

I'm very sorry, i wasn't implying critisism with the "descended from criminals" remark. simply irony. I'm sure there are plenty of criminals in my family tree (along with Robert the Bruce's wife....)

back in the days i did geography (a few years back) we heard that the aborigines found it extremely difficult to find jobs- a notable propertion of them did not attend school. I don't know how true this was, but was asking after it.

Trigger_003 08-30-2005 04:03 AM

Thanks for the bump :thumb:
Statistics can always be manipulated to make them say what you want them to say. 83% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

We did a concert last night (with three of the bands that I'm in - Derek was in 2 of those). It was sweet. At one stage there were 6 of us trombonists on stage; big difference to the usual... me (and some other guy that doesn't practise)...
We did some stuff like a big band version of Smoke On The Water which a lot of people loved. Our second song was bad - people stuffing up everywhere for some reason (probably because quite a few people were playing who had never played those songs with us before they came on stage). But it went good, all up :).

I'd talk about aboriginies, but I should get back to studying Italian... see you guys later .

denboy 08-30-2005 04:14 AM

Hey, Aes, been following the latest saga of Frank Pagini (a promising year)?

Its just so incomprehensibly cringeworthy. Why is he still here?

I saw the thread. Had a quick glance. That's about as far as i got.
I know what it's about tho.

It's about a 16 year old with a messed up life who thinks he's got it all covered and is getting married

Aes820 08-30-2005 05:11 AM

Heh. I just gave the Guitar Equipment Reviews forum a clean out. Closed and/or deleted 15 threads on the first page.

Just to to the pit and have a lookin eggos "the Frank Pagini chronicles" thread.

airborne50caliber 08-30-2005 12:02 PM

Guys, have you ever heard an interference noise that sounds like a crackle, like static electricity, one that is not there all the time and is very faint in the background?

It's very strange because I can hear this nowhere in the system during recording, but it is present in the mic track during playback of recorded material. (It is actually in the mic track, It's not the playback drivers).

It's probably some sort of grounding problem, isn't it?

Aes820 09-01-2005 07:29 AM

A mate of mine just got this new JBL crossover / processor for his PA.
I was just down at the venue that we'll be playing at on the weekend testing it out.
He's running a Triamped setup now. And it's a very good setup in there.
We cranked it up untill the 1600 watt sub poweramps started to chirp.
It was intense.

Yeah. As I found out just now; we're playing more gigs, one on Friday night and one of Saturday night. It's going to be a busy weekend, I think.

Gidday again KKKKK, are you sticking around for long or will you be back off on the road again soon?

We'll be playing on the same days as you guys, good luck.
We've shooting a DVD tommorrow night on what will probably be the most elegant and pampered stage for quite a while.*

*5KW P.A.
Air Conditioned Stage.

And.....well that's it. The fact that it's air conditioned is amazing enough.
Although oddly you'd expect this to be a really big fancy venue, when really it's just a small obscure pub that takes alot of care to it's music.
Wheras we've played, 'the biggest metal venue in the north' (you win a prize for guessing the venue). Where you found your stage was mostly covered in blood and sick, alongside the monitors and almost every poster outside the venue. But oh well. It's all good. (I added to the stages sick by the way, and in true performance style, I pulled it off mid song without anyone noticing, I'm so smooth)

Then on saturday we're playing the debut of 'West Fest' a local all dayer. Which has been set up really professionally considering the fact it's free entry and a guy set it up in about 4 months.
A real stage, no lots of wood boxes.
A good P.A. company.
An entertainment licence. (500 people are expected)
Merch stalls.
Plenty of promotion.
A big field.
Photography.
First Aid tents.

Now we just have to hope it doesn't rain :p
Which is a big wish seen as last night it went from a blue sky to a yellow one and we had a massive thunderstorm for about 30 minutes. Before returning to clear skies.

I should be back more longterm now. In jan I should be spending about 3000 on studio gear and getting accustomed to it so I never have to step into a studio again. I HATE studios, so much. :)
It's the entire stress of sitting there knowing you have to work as fast as you can.
Hopefully my own set up will put ant end to that, and give me alot more time to play with mixes.

http://photobucket.com/albums/a381/bandagethesehearts/
There's a couple of fan pics* and some pictures from the above mentioned blood and sick venue.
Prizes for guessing which one I am!

*If anyone from the MXuk thread is here, I haven't uploaded the topless ones of the large breasted girl with just a teency** banner over her breasts reading, 'Bandage These Hearts Groupie'. I did however include her crayon picture, which is just as good :p

*It's REALLY small

So how is everyones bands going?

KKKKKocaine 09-01-2005 04:23 PM

Oh and just to save face. The Line 6 amp you see in picture 10, where I've obviously taken too much interest in the mic lead. Isn't ours, ours is a larger carlsbro stack to the side. That when combined with the bass stack, makes a very comfortable bed when you're outside the venues loading doors an hour early in a car park.

Aes820 09-01-2005 04:41 PM

I was eating brekky when I read about that bit about the vomit and blood on the stage near the foldbacks. That's gross.
Our bassist has a Carlsbro amp. I don't know about their guitar amps tho.

KKKKKocaine 09-01-2005 04:46 PM

Ours is red.
Which is about as much detail as I can delve into really. But red is a nice colour.

Yeah I'd been to the venue once before to see Killswitch Engage with the 36 crazyfists and I hadn't really paid any attention to the state half of it was in.
We spent quite some time debating how crap the area was and that the reason people had tried to run over the bassist was because he was ginger and tall.

Aes! I heard in Austrailia or however tis spelt! You have christmas during the summer?

Yeah. That's true.
Christmas lunches often involve a BBQ and a cold salad.
Then on Boxing day it's down to the beach.

That's crazy stuff. Summer's cold here as well, not because the seasons are flipped around, but because I live in holland. I was planning to go to the beach but instead its cold, foggy, and might soon rain :o

Man, poor Alive, asking me to write something up on goal setting. I've just started and I'm already up to a page .
