I seriously need some Floyd T-shirts. The thing now though is that they're all trendy and stuff. I occaisionally walk up to people at my school wearing Led Zeppelin shirts and ask them "What's your favorite Zep album?" *blank stares from the other person* Then I walk away.
I think I"m going to make a shirt that says in plain block letters "I ACTUALLY LISTEN TO PINK FLOYD." That would be awesome. |
Sad. You should move to somewhere other than Australia. Lots of Floyd stuff in America and Britain. And just big cities in general.
There is floyd stuff all over America, its in any Hot Topic. |

It's kind of sad that listening to old music is now "trendy," as most people do it just for that reason. Same with this new fad of liking everything that was "cool" when you were 6. Like, there's this fad of everyone liking transformers and Power Rangers and stuff again. While I admit some stuff from back then was totally awesome (Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, etc.) Some of it just sucked. Power Rangers was just ****ty acting and lame fighting scenes. It was not cool. It is not cool. It never will be cool. /me got off topic |
I always thought the cover of Meddle was like...an animal embryo or something. Crazy.
But yea, I've had the same PF shirt for 3 years, the Wall one, with the Goodbye Blue Skys robot on the front, and that pink monster on the back. It's the most common one in my school, I do belive. Once I need a new one, I wanna get my AHM shirt again. It was so ghetto. |
Not many Pink Floyd fanboys at my school. Mostly GNR and Zeppelin fan boys. And metal fans.

/me got off topic
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are still the best action figures ever. The trendy T-shirt wearing guys(They're not fanboys b/c they don't even listen to the bands) are into Ac/Dc and Zep. Luckily there aren't too many Floyd fanboys. /off topic as well |
Grr. Stupid fanboys. Your icon cracks me up, Kombucha Mushroom Mofo. Thats hilarious.
If you could have seen Pink Floyd on any of the "album tours," which tour would it have been? For me, probably early on Dark Side of the Moon tour, because it was so new, and really defined the Pink Floyd sound, and would have just been an amazing experience. Much more impact than saying "I saw the WYWH tour." |
I have too many Floyd and Zeppelin fanboys at my school.
|
My Floyd shirt is awesome. It's got a Cute little piggy on it, and says Pink Floyd in the cool font. I've never seen anyone else with it :)
And I would've liked to been at an early show, like PATGOD. |
I have too many Floyd and Zeppelin fanboys at my school.
Same here. They all have The Wall hoodies. It's annoying. :upset: |

Yea, but you don't live near me so it's all good :)
|
Speaking of the PATGOD tour, Pink Floyd opened for Jimi Hendrix on a tour. That would've been really cool. Except apparently at the time Hendrix was against just cutting loose, so he wouldn't let Pink Floyd go crazy and do freeform instrumental space jams.
|
Really? Jimi against cutting loose? That's very odd.
|
That would be an odd concert. First, extremely wierd psychadelic music, and then you have hard blues rock next. Sounds great.
|
It is. It was early on though, like right after Are You Experienced came out, so he was just following all the rules. I think, anyways.

Yea, its not to say I don't like the shirt. I love that shirt, that album, and that song; so it's all good. Slightly off topic, one of my friends had my old bio teacher the semester after I had her. She was selling old albums and she sold a "Live at Berlin" CD signed by Roger Waters to him for $8. I always hated that teacher. |
What a whore! I can't believe she sold that for 8 dollars. While it would be awesome to pick it up for 8, thats just insane to sell it that cheap. I'd kill to get something like that.

Roger Waters said the song was about the rememberance of childhood right before one sets of for the rest of his life, or the movie's case... Pink. This song gives me chills up and down my spine every listen, what is everybody elses favorite scene/part from The Wall? |
I have a question for you guys, should a band like Pink Floyd be considered bad because they have a huge following of fans?
|

Of course not, a large amount of following and supporting fans only proves they're a popular and widely liked band. |

Plays Pink Floyd"? I just downloaded their cover of Us & Them. Awesome stuff :thumb: I just wish they did Comfortably Numb :/ |

Not at all, but what makes you say that? |

Like them or not, they are a huge influence in rock. Creating the first concept album for example... |

Now that is some eerie animation right there... it is very creative, I'll give it that.. but otherwise, it can be scary. Kinda funny too with the giant legs/vagina. I haven't heard any Orchestra Pink Floyd covers, but now you have me curious, I'll definitely check into them. Have you heard the Comfortably Numb cover by Tool? I believe Dream Theater does a cover also... They're both the two best PF covers I've heard, and are actually the only two good covers I'va heard... |

Adam Jones has a much darker tone than Gilmour's, and I wonder how that would sound. |

Awesome "The Wall" Movie and Song analysis... I've been dwelling on The Wall for too long, maybe I should go back and listen to Meddle or something. :) |

I can never remember who did the insturmental parts, but I think it's really good. If you find it, let me knnow what you think of it. |

Like them or not, they are a huge influence in rock. Creating the first concept album for example...
Yeah, that thread annoyed me, because multiple people had said that they didn't like Floyd because they were overrated. That's a terrible reason for not liking a band. "Yeah I've heard too much good stuff about that band, so I can't like them." |
I jost lost some respect for The Joz
Me too. I have the Dream Theater covers of Comfortably Numb and Hey You. They're the only songs by them I like. Let me know if you guys want them. |

Sounds cool, I'll check it out. :) Yeah, not accepting a band because of its popularity and "over-ratedness" is silly, most people on these boards seem to abuse the word "overrated" easily. Floyd are far from overrated, they inspired many bands, are unique in their own sound, and are unlike any other band out there. Also they created the first concept album, as Gilmour said earlier. If anything, Pink Floyd could be underrated... |
:amaze: I found a trance cover of Comfortably Numb
:amaze: I found a trance cover of Comfortably Numb
Haha, I wonder what the solos sound like :p ... and who in their right mind does a trance cover of a classic rock song.. but I'm sure thats nothing new these days.... |
I would dare say they are some what underrated, in the fact I had always heard they were good, but when I got into them they were way better then I had expected.
|
I can't stand it when people discover DSotM or The Wall but don't explore the rest of PF's catalogue, I had to force two of my friends to overlook Dark Side and TW to hear Animals, WYWH, and Meddle. I'm not saying Dark Side and TW aren't superb albums, because they absolutely are, but it's sad some people don't dig deeper and explore.

Ya, I absolulety love animals now.
Ya, I absolulety love animals now.
Animals has Dogs, which is arguably my favorite PF song.. wait.. I just realized (again) it's too hard to decide on that... but Dogs is a very very great song, but not to neglect the rest of the album cause it's all great. I think it's interesting how there are theories that Roger Waters based the album around Capitalism with the three different levels: Pigs - high class, Dogs - middle class, Sheep - lower class.... very interesting stuff when you read the lyrics with that theory in mind. I'd say Animals is their most underrated album, followed by Meddle. |
I agree, Animals is the most underrated. I listedend to it today. Lyrically and instrumentally it is amazing, and probably better than their previous albums. At least Gilmour's guitar work is a little more fancy.

Actually Communism, and how the pigs controlled everything and decided how everything was to be divided. Pigs (three different ones) is my favorite. |
